"even lighter than last season!!!" 2/25/2012
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Super Ultra Lightweight, Re:Flex Baseplate/Disk, Zero Forward Lean
  • Cons:  One-piece base cushion, Disk's insert hole spacing, Different size screwheads
  • Flex:  stiff

Experience:   I'm guessing Cartels are among, if not THE lightest bindings on the market...they weigh in at only 32 ounces (half ounce lighter than even 2011 Cartel). The new Re:Flex baseplate design may or may not be revolutionary, but it's definitely impressive. The zero forward lean option is also new and the highback doesn't dig into my calf like the 2011s (forward lean adjusters now have level numbers silkscreened on them). I didn't notice any difference with the Autocant cushion...seems like the same annoying one-piece cushion as the 2011 to me. The toe ramp could have an extra pull out notch, but I'm also riding large boots on a medium binding. The disk's insert hole spacing is tighter than 2011s, so I can't get my heel quite as far back on the board as I used to. The straps aren't tool-less for a reason...having only a small screw shaves weight. However, this also means needing a smaller screwdriver than for the insert screws. Cartels still feel relatively flimsy/brittle, but if they don't break, these definitely deserve 5 stars...I'll give them 4.5 stars for now.

EDIT: so their not the lightest, after all...but for this type of binding (high response, all mtn), 2 pounds is pretty darned light.

"great fitting" 12/4/2011
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (1) No

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  great fit, came with all compataibility disk, love the design
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   i got the non-est version of this just so that if l ever decide to swap out of my current ics board i still can. great bindings, took some time to get comfortable with it. best thing l like about these binding is its ability to customize the setting, just be sure to change your setting before your fully mount it. Although l got the white with black camo, l think the pure black would have looked alot better. Still minor personal preference but great overall. happy riding people.

"Best Binding on the market" 10/31/2011
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Great all around, works well with other company's boots, lifetime baseplate warranty
  • Cons:  none so far,
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   I've been riding the '12 model since Feb '11 (about 25-30 days on snow so far) and this binding is spectacular. The highback is a big, and significantly better change to the '11's highbacks. This binding goes everywhere with me, it's flexible enough for me to throw it on my park board and lap the park all day, yet responsive enough for to throw it on my boardercross board. This binding, especially the restricted version has extremely comfortable straps, yet hold you firmly in place. Burton's buckles are second to none, smooth and easy to use. the best part about these bindings is that they work well with almost any boot, burton boots work exceptionally but third party brands enjoy a comfortable fit as well. if you own a burton ICS board, pony out the extra dough for the est version, it's worth it.

  • Pros:  Light, Cushioned base, Adjustable without tools
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   Very light compared to my Mission's bindings. Highly adjustable without tools. Barely feel em when i ride and really comfy! I swapped my mission binding with his Cartels and boy i could feel the differ. Not just comfy-ness and light, but it response well too! i guess I gotta save up more money this year...

"2011 Cartels" 4/7/2012
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Good looking, Toe cap, Cushioned footbed
  • Cons:  none,
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   Yes, I know this should be about the 2012 but I have the 2011 but there was no place to review them. They are lightweight and comfortable. You can be sure of the buckles - easy on and off. They do not loosen and hold firmly. Never doubt they will hold you. The rubberized toe cap once positioned on the boot will hold well and not shift. So if the 2012 model is lighter and better then so be it but based on the 2011 I think either Cartel will be a good choice. Hope this helps to promote a great binding. I also have the 2009 Mission bindings and they are a bit softer but a good binding as well.

"Redefines board flex" 3/26/2012
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Board flex, Fantastic response, Comfort, Cushion
  • Flex:  stiff

Experience:   After my boot binding combo started to develop ankle pressure points I decided to give the only plastic binding I had ever used that I hadn't blown apart another try. Coming from Ride Delta's, these completely changed the board I was riding. I found a sense of confidence I hadn't know in years, partly due to the response and feel of the bindings and partly due to the incredibly improved flex of my board. The cushioning in the base is flat out amazing compared to what the cartel's had prior to Re:Flex.

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  didn't even feel like I was wearing anything,
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   Just tried these out yesterday and they are sooo much better than any other binding I had ever worn. This was my first time using the over-the-toe strap and I was really pleased. No cutting into the top of my toes (and no loss of feeling!) like the other bindings I was coming from. Overall-- very pleased.

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Many adjustments (Tool Less), Comfortable, Light
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   These bindings are great. They are incredibly comfortable. If you don't crank them down too tight, it really feels like your just wearing your boots. These are my first bindings with a tor cap, and I must say it's freakin' awesome. The black on black is really nice as well.

"Best Bindings" 2/24/2012
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  A very high quality. Functional, lightweight., For all conditions riding,
  • Cons:  It is not found,
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   I apologize for my English, I write through the online translator) Disposition: Prior to this I used the Burton P1 SZ (insecure mounting, constantly shifted fasteners on your toes in contact with the snow, and the main hardware there generally is a lot of defects) Cartel - very reliable! Never let down, do not open during the riding. Nothing in excess! The black color looks gorgeous! Ideal binding!

In this year's bindings use the technology enables the board flex under the bindings. Used with boots Burton SLX.

"Good performance in all conditions " 2/21/2012
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (1) No

  • Name: 2012 Burton Cartel Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Versatility, Light weight, Responsive
  • Cons:  Construction quality, Falling behind on features,
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   My experience is based off the 2011 model. I had very poor luck with the burton customs, but decided to give the cartels a shot based on the accolades they receive. For the most part I have been very satisfied. The bindings are light, responsive and perform in all conditions. From park hits, to slashing peak lines, to blasting on groomers the cartels give you everything that you could ask for. My main issue with these bindings is the poor construction quality. The ratchets on the straps are starting to wear out after about 60 days worth of use and the toe strap material is coming apart as well. I would not count on having these for very long if you are riding 30+ days in a season but while they last, they will suite any needs that you have. If burton decides to make some minor updates, such as no tool required adjustments that flux bindings use, I would definitely buy these again.
