Sierra Says: If the Burton Chopper made it any easier for kids to learn how to snowboard it would have to be called magic. A soft flex makes it super easy to manipulate in and out of turns, edges that are concave (like a skateboard) keep the edges from catching to give them a smooth, care free ride. Need I mention that the Chopper comes with a free voucher for a free lesson and lift ticket? Maybe it really is magic.

Burton Says: Easy Rider tech on the Chopper lifts the edges off the snow to get kids on the right track from day one. The mellow camber and super soft flex makes it easy for even the lightest weight shredders to steer, ollie, and stop. For the two smallest sizes, we developed grippy foot pads and a NEW Riglet accessory that lets you tow junior around 'til he's ready to rock bindings.

"Great for the little ones" 3/2/2010

  • Name: Burton Chopper Youth
  • Skill:  Beginner
  • Use:  Groomed,Low Speeds,Park
  • Pros:  Easy to learn on, Hard to catch edge, Riglet accessory
  • Cons:  Base scratches easily, Slow Base,

Experience:   I bought this board for my 5 year old daughter who's been skiing for a couple years. Paired it up with Burton Freestyle Jr. onestrap bindings and some Burton Groms Velcro boots. First time up, we let her ski on/off lift and on the sketchy steeper sections of the mountain. Switched to snowboarding to let her learn on the easier parts of the runs. Took her a couple hours to get her heel stops and turns down. 2nd time out, she started to get more comfortable doing toe side turns. 3rd time out - she's linking turns! Last few times out she's progressed to riding all the blues at Northstar and can handle some blacks. The board is great for beginners - easy to initiate turns. Hard to catch an edge. The riglet accessory attaches to the front of the board and lets me pull her on the flats and pull her back to the lift line. I bought another one (100 cm) for her and will be handing the 90cm to my 2.5 year old son!

  • Pros:  Light weight, Easy Rider tech lifted edges,

Experience:   The little man (5 years old) tore up the mountain on this. After 2 runs he was doing steep blues. Heel side slides & turns have been conquered. Even better he does bunny hops with this thing! He has complete control & after a total of 10 runs I would be comfortable taking him on any blue and even some blacks. A must get for your serious beginners.

"Bro is loving it" 2/3/2010
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Chopper Youth
  • Skill:  Beginner
  • Pros:  Tiny for beginner, Riglet holes, managable flex and size

Experience:   I got this board for my brother in the 90cm. He is loving the graphics which a 5 year old cares about a lot (what kid doesnt). The board has been really helping him progress and I'm glad that he is starting to get it. Seems like good quality. He even tries to press it once in a while... which is hilarious and all sorts of awesome. The best part is now that we have a set up for him... a few inches in the backyard is a perfect opportunity to get a little lesson in for the grom.
