Sierra Says: After being foiled by technological limitations and an ugly demise, baseless bindings are back! Based on Burton's new Triad binding (with a nice upgrade to the new Superstrap II ankle strap), the EST binding combines elements of Capita's Freedom Groove, Forum's I-Lock, and the baseless binding craey of the mid-90's to provide a whole new level of stance customization and board feel. If you buy one of the boards equipped with Burton's new ICS (Infinite Channel System), you will be doing yourself a grave disservice not buying these bindings and getting the most out of your investment. Welcome to a world of infinite possibilities.

"EST is for lovers" 9/22/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton EST
  • Pros:  Unlimited stance options, Unlimited stance options, No hard baseplate
  • Cons:  May occasionally slip out of place if not tight., High torque from big drops or jumps can cause slip,
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   I absolutely loved these bindings from the first run. You instantly feel closer to your board like you've just had a real deep conversation or shared a meaningful experience together. No more almost the right spot or close enough with the standard baseplates. I did occasionally experience some angle slippage (rotation around just one screw) if I was lazy in tightening my board or when coming down off a big booter. This is easily fixed though (careful with adhesives as that might endanger warranty claims). Bottom line: as long as you don't mind being locked into an exclusively Burton setup, EST with ICS is the way to go.

"Good, not perfect." 11/10/2008

Experience:   I liked them and I really dig the EST/ICS connection. The only issue is that they are a softer binding that I like. And I really, really, REALLY hate the way Burton used to do the old B3 heel gel patch. Made it feel like jelly underfoot. They seem to have altered that across the line for 09, so I'm looking forward to seeing what tweaks they've made.

"wide fit but comfy" 10/13/2008
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton EST

  • Pros:  Adjustability, Easy in & out, Good construction quality, Lightweight, Comfortable
  • Cons:  Boot slippage
  • Fit:  feels too big

Experience:   i have k2 t1 10.5 boots and have large bindings. I have tons of rooms in width and with the mediums my toes hang off way too much and mediums feel small. I still love them for comfort but am thinking they have wider baseplates and know the 09 est bindings are sized differently. Besides that really comfy and great all around bindings.

"EST will make you happy" 1/15/2008
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton EST
  • Pros:  This binding allows for infinite stance and angles when mounted to the Burton ICS boards (it is ONLY compatible with ICS). I have ridden several ICS boards and although they perform great with regular Burton bindings, the feel with these is far superior. After riding an X8 with some Burton Missions I finally received my EST bindings. The flex of the board has improved and you can actually feel the torsional flex under your feet. The soft cushion is the only thing that separates you from the board. If you choose you can even remove the cushion (although I wouldn't recommend it). The straps are soft and cushy and stainless steel buckles hold up to some abuse. If you plan on purchasing an ICS board, plan on purchasing EST bindings.
  • Cons:  As stated before, the bindings are only compatible with ICS boards.
