"Good Street Jacket" 8/15/2010
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:  Enough Pockets For Phone, Ipod, Etc., Nice Design / Style, Good Street Jacket
  • Cons:  Not Warm Enough For Slopes,
  • Fit:  Just right
  • My Size:  S
  • Fits Like:  S
  • Description:  Good Fit, Just Right Size

Experience:   I got this jacket as a backup jacket for when it's not cold enough to wear my insulated jacket, and this actually turned into my street jacket for work, school, etc. It's most likely not warm enough for those cold Pow days, but it is a nice jacket for street wear. Good amount of pockets, and a nice all around jacket.

"buy this!" 5/13/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:  extremely waterproof. i ran it under water from the sink and it beaded up and ran off the jacket like ive never seen before! great spring/fall jacket. i live in minnesota and this will be perfect for street wear from 20F- 50F, lots of style. comfortable too
  • Cons:  none

Experience:   size: here you go listen to this, not baggy at all, fits true to size chart. If you like things baggy which i really dont, don't buy this. Dont get me wrong this does have plenty of room to move, its not emo or anything like that, but its not your typical "snowboard dude" style. I am 6'0 200 athletic build, descently wide shoulders, 34 waist, and i got an XL, more than enough room to move, can even fit a hoodie underneath it and still be fine. sleeves are a little extra long which is also nice about the jacket! i probably could of fit into a L too, depends how tight you want it, go off of the sizing chart! black is a true black also, although it looks like a smoke color on the picture. just a sweat jacket overall, especially at $65!!!

"F'n BUY IT! Its a gift to yourself!" 3/31/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:  I've already written a review from when I just got it. Now I've used it for everything! I plan on having this for atleast 10 years. I take super good care of my coats and this is a KEEEEPER! I wore it in the rain a two weeks ago, mid-March and the water proofing was totally on. You don't have to worry about that. I wish it did have pit zips, but who cares when it rocks this much at this freak'n price. Seriously $65 from $220. If you have the dough and want an awesome coat, that itsn't a full condition shell but is totally gnarly buy it for yourself. Its actually good for riding, no bagginess to get in the way. The hood is very nice, especially if you forget a hat. I'm 150lbs, 37-38 chest, 31 waist. I got a med and its wonderful.
  • Cons:  people that don't buy it if they have the dough.

Experience:   mmm..cookies.

"on sale!!!" 3/20/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:  CHEAP! great waterproofing! keeps me dry and it's comfortable.
  • Cons:  maybe mesh in pit zips? removable powder skirt?

Experience:   i don't really use it for snowboarding.. i like other jackets better. i use more for other outdoor stuff.. it doesn't feel like it belongs on the slopes. and i'm pretty skeptical about the 20k waterproofing.. it keeps me dry though.. but that would be intense if it was real. doesn't feel like it's THAT waterproof. great jacket though.. dig the price.

"Solid Softy" 3/18/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:  The Black is more a Gun Metal color. completely blocks out the elements. The jacket is cut with longer sleeves, which is nice.
  • Cons:  No liner on the pit zips, but that is a minor issue.

Experience:   As for the fit, It is true to size through the chest/shoulder and a tad smaller than normal through the waist. I bounce betweeen L/XL in jackets and ordered L, fits fine, but I can't get anything more than a crew sweatshirt under it.

"Hook Softshell" 2/24/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:   Great fit, very windproof and waterproof. If it's over 25F I'm wearing this with some lightweight layering underneath. This is definately my new fav jacket. It's a steal at it's price
  • Cons:  chest pocket should have a hole to run your headphone cable thru the inside of your jacket (I added one to mine)

Experience:   Great as a lightweight shell on not so frigid days or when it's arctic out layering under your favorite jacket.

"Decent Shell" 2/6/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:  Nice low profile soft-shell jacket. A little nicer/less casual than my usual Shell, so I'm rocking this off the mountain quite a bit. Warm with layers underneath. Waterproofing seems pretty solid.
  • Cons:  Missing some of the features of my usual riding shell (snow skirt, audio pocket). Runs a little slim to size, contrary to some of the reviews I read, so tougher for me to layer underneath than what I had planned. Would like removeable hood.

Experience:   Given the lower profile than expected, this will likely end up as a liner to my usual riding shell and/or a nice spring/fall jacket. Definitely a nice softshell, just not going to get the use I intended for it.

"Excellent, does what it's meant to do." 2/5/2009
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Burton Hook Softshell
  • Pros:  Excellent jacket. Functional enough for the hill but low-key and aesthetically pleasing enough that you can rock it for everyday use. Water resistant. Warm enough for freezing temperatures with nothing but a midweight baselayer underneath. Low profile enough that you can layer with it easily. Pit zips for those days when you really need them. None of that hard shell crunching.
  • Cons:  I'm pretty sure that the 20k waterproofing rating Burton purports is BS. But it has kept me dry so far, so whatever. Could use an audio pocket. Other than that, none; at least none that aren't related to the fact that it's a softshell.

Experience:   I rode with this in some relatively harsh conditions (just under freezing, windy, and pellet-like snow fall) and didn't feel the need to get my hard shell. I would ride with this in every condition short of rain, extreme cold, and epic pow.
