"Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts " 7/17/2011
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  Saves your tailbone,
  • Cons:  N/A,

Experience:   A Few years i smashed my tail bone on the only patch of ice in the whole resort. It took more than 6 months to recover to a point that i could do a sit up without pain. Not only have these shorts saved my ass again but given me my confidence back. I found these shorts to be the least bulky and comfortable out there on the market. I will never ride without ass protection again! Thankyou RED.

"Good Pad." 1/20/2011
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (7) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  Protects from fall, Good Material,
  • Cons:  More Padding other spots, Less padding at the tail bone.,

Experience:   I bought these at a snowboard shop I went to and these were amazing. Every time i time i fell the padding helped me with the fall and eased the pain. This is amazing and i also have wrist guards as well and they also helped. I recommened both but these pads are really good.

"Does the job" 11/29/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (1) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  does the job,
  • Cons:  paddings could be thicker, a bit pricey,

Experience:   Personally, these aren't my favorite pair of butt pads. The paddings on the tailbone could be a tad thicker and the paddings on the hips could be a bit softer. I have another pair of butt pads called the triple8 bumsaver. Super thick paddings and NOT bulky at all with board pants over them (not to mention, the tripe8's were cheaper). For those who really want a more thinner looking (which means less protection) pair of pads and has the money to spend, go for these. If not, there are plenty of other brands out there that has a little bit better paddings and cheaper.

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  Cushion fall, Enhances confidence, Comfy
  • Cons:  not enough padding at some parts,

Experience:   Will definitely save you from some bruising and pain when falling. Less pain = more confidence. Generally good padding in most parts around the thighs but a tad thin at the tailbone. Some padding is still better than none.

"Not bad, but can be better" 2/19/2011
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  light, thin, increases confidence
  • Cons:  Tail bone padding is too thin, can use thicker padding in most cases,

Experience:   These are the first butt/hip protection I ever used, and to be honest, I expected more cushioning. It almost feels like nothing, but of course the pads do something, since my butt doesn't hurt as much when I have minor low speed falls. I do however question the tail bone padding. It just doesn't seem to absorb enough of an impact to that sensitive area. These pads are very light weight, and keeps you feeling confident that you are protected, until your first really hard fall on your rear against ice or hard packed snow. Then you will realize that something more substantial would be appreciated.... either that or you just wont fall again. Option one requires new gear, option two requires more skills. I don't know which one is more difficult to achieve. Would give 4 stars if tailbone padding is a little better, and 5 if all paddings got beefed up a little bit more.. maybe 10-20% increase in material is enough. I will probably get bum savers next time, since their padding are much more beefier, considering I fall on very hard packed snow or ice the most. To be fair, I am a beginner and I fall more than the average rider. So I can see these padding to be beneficial for people at a higher skill level that only falls occasionally and prioritize maneuverability. However, if you fall during a huge jump, I don't know how much these will help. I felt quite a shock to my bum when my board popped out under me and I landed flat on my rear.

"Minimal Protection" 2/10/2011
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  lightweight,
  • Cons:  inadequate tailbone protection,

Experience:   Simply put, these don't do the job for tailbone protection. They are lightweight, thin, breathable, but junk for your butt. You'd do better wearing a pair of sweatpants. The hip protection is good. I'd suggest getting this if you want really lightweight and light protection.

"Good" 1/25/2011
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  Good hip padding,
  • Cons:  not enough tail bone padding,

Experience:   These have adequate hip padding. Too bad I don't land on my hip more. I needed more tail bone padding, but it does damper the impact, so I can't complain. Cons: So for the first time I asked my boyfriend does this make me look fat? and he answered with yeah. It's not supposed to be slimming though. It ran a little big too. I'm more on the petite side, and bought a small, but it's a little baggy, so the padding shifts around if I have it over my base layer.

"Not enough protection" 1/19/2011
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  Slim,
  • Cons:  not enough protection ,

Experience:   I didn't use any hip protection before purchasing this one. But I really feel no difference when I fall on it or not. Compared with my friends' hip pads, this one has a relative slim look, but, really, not enough protection.

"save your bum" 1/5/2011
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Red Base Layer First Layer Shorts Women's
  • Pros:  hip padding,
  • Cons:  less padding on tailbone,

Experience:   I have these and the protec hip pads. I enjoyed the protec ones more because they breathed easier and had more manuverability than these. The padding on the tail bone seems minimal. from experience more people fall on their butts than their hips. The only time i've hit my hip is when i was trying to do tricks. The protec ones were more tuned for beginner usage in my opinion where they could fall on their butts and notice it too much. These would help more when trying to do park tricks.
