The wood is good. The Taipan AmpTek was designed with versatility in mind and Transworld Snowboarding agrees. The Taipan’s AmpTek All-Mountain camber gives you the freedom to rip the harpack on one run and slash the pow on the next without sacrificing an ounce of performance.

"Really liking it!" 12/19/2012

  • Name: 2012 Rossignol Taipan Amptek Snowboard
  • Skill:  Beginner
  • Pros:  Light!, Directional-twin shape, Price = STEAL for what you get
  • Cons:  No board sizes for tall people (160 max),

Experience:   Picked up this board on an uber sale a few months back. Was waiting until I rode it to leave a review. Finally hit the slopes this past weekend and REALLY enjoyed this board. I was initially going to wait for the 2013 model, as I liked the new year's graphic more, but the price was too cheap to turn down, and the skull graphic has since grown on me (and got me a couple compliments in the lift line, too). Better yet, I get to ride this sick stick this season as opposed to waiting for next! I'm 6'3 and anywhere between 190-195 pounds, I wear a 11.5 Salomon boot (with small footprint) and the 160 did great for me. It was a bit harder to control than the 163's and 164's I've ridden before, but it will force me to work on technique in a way longer boards can't. The board is extremely light and responsive. The sintered base is VERY quick, though I felt it get a tad bit squirrely at very high speeds. I attribute that to the board being on the smaller side for me, rather than a flaw in the board itself. I still didn't feel it wash too much until I had LONG surpassed a speed I was comfortable with (and it didn't cause me to wipe out in that case, either). Riding switch is a breeze (thank you, dir. twin). I expected, due to the size, that riding in powder would be a bit difficult, but so long as I kept weight on my back foot, this thing floated quite nicely. Groomed runs were really fun, edge hold is very good, and I had no issues catchin back up to friends when and after I bit it. I had a number of crashes I was able to recover from, simply because this board is so maneuverable. I haven't tried park riding yet, so I cannot comment to how it performs there. I really feel this board will help me become a better snowboarder. I would DEFINITELY recommend this to anyone. And after a few more runs with it, I'll insist my friends give it a shot :)

"Great Board for Learning..." 3/12/2013
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (1) No

  • Name: 2012 Rossignol Taipan Amptek Snowboard
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Pros:  Price,

Experience:   I have the 2011 version of this snowboard (identical to the 2012 other than the graphics) and it really has been my go-to board until I just recently bought a Lib Tech Skunk Ape HP. This is a great Intermediate level board and a great board to learn on. It offers a great starting price as well. It is a Directional Twin with the stance set back almost 1/2 from center. Even with the stance set-back, this board still rides effortlessly when riding switch. I have been on powder with it a couple times and I really had to work on keeping the nose of the board up, even with the stance set-back (I had it set back almost 2 from center). Overall a great board for the price.
