Trusnow Says: Powder days on the mountain are always memorable: They are either epic reminders of why we wake up in the early hours of the morning to get fresh lines or they are painful lessons of why you need a powder board like the Sierra BlueBird. Think of the BlueBird as a specialized tool; sometimes the arrow allows the Indian to shoot better, slash more powder and find that tight nook between the trees. The secret behind the Sierra BlueBird is the world's largest and most passionate community of snowboarders! The BlueBird is meant to be ridden by everyday snowboarders; the 5mm taper and directional shape keep your snowboard afloat while other boards sink, putter and cause you to fall. The medium flex and gentle shape make the BlueBird the most universal powder board on the market. This board loves powder, but excels at riding switch, groomers and resort terrain. With an affordable price tag, there is room in everyone's quiver for the Sierra BlueBird. Imagine yourself loving every powder day.

"First BlueBird Review!" 3/15/2010
Helpful Review?   (16) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Sierra Bluebird Snowboard
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Carving,Chop,Crud,High Speeds,Off Trail,Powder
  • Pros:  Float in Powder, Multiple Sizes, Carving
  • Cons:  No Wide Sizes Yet,

Experience:   So much pressure being the first person to review the Sierra BlueBird. As it happens, I rode this board for its intended purpose, a 1.5 foot BlueBird powder day at squaw. Run 1: Broken Arrow or Tower 16 which is ultra steep and completely untouched. The BlueBird is fast, floaty and lays out an AMAZING slash! A little softer flex than a Malolo allowed me to really tweak slashes. Run 2: Granite Chief which is steep up top yielding to trees and then a normal resort run. The snow here was chopped powder. I was very impressed with how well the BlueBird plowed through choppy snow. I could keep all my weigh forward and man handle chop, where some reverse camber boards get knocked around. Run 3:Solitude, which is an intermediate run. Did the top of the run switch, and half cabed of a small cliff. The board excels at switch riding and can handle good drops. Rest of the day: Mix between groomers and hidden powder. The most impressive part of the BlueBird is its groomed run performance. It initiates a turn better than any board i have ridden this season! I recommend this to guys who like experiencing great carves whether in Pow or just on a groomed run!

"SierraSnowboard BlueBird of Wisdom" 4/7/2010
Helpful Review?   (11) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Sierra Bluebird Snowboard
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Carving,Chop,Groomers,High Speeds,Off Trail,Powder
  • Pros:  Awesome responsiveness, not too stiff, Great shape for versitile riding, not just in POW, Great, simple, clean and classy design by PhilW
  • Cons:  No wide sizes,

Experience:   I rode this beauty on a blue bird powder day in Squaw with MikeM in the last big storm of April 2010. We did some similar runs together as he has listed above but I'll try to recap. I had been riding my Hero for most of the spring prior to this trip so right off of the lift it was good to have the turn initiating, responsive ease of camber back between my feet. I headed up KT-22 at Squaw to meet Mike over at Head-wall. Squaw, from the lift is a haven of stashed pow. I headed down the short run through some untracked stashes and was immediately impressed by the response that I was getting from transitions. The comfort and stability of the board was impressive. Mike and I headed up head wall and hit a couple more runs before we headed up Broken Arrow. The BA drop was one of the best runs of the year, and the BlueBird stayed strong through the steeps, in the ice and through the deeps. We spent the rest of the day dropping into the trees and I continued to enjoy the response of the BlueBird when I needed it most. Overall, if you're looking for a go to board and are lucky enough to live in a place where you'll do a POW board justice, pick up a BlueBird and you won't be let down. It will perform wherever you need it to. The graphics are clean and sharp courtesy of The English Butler (BTW, thanks for letting me borrow it, Phil). E

I was not riding the BlueBird the day I rode with E13 and he flew past me all day long. The BlueBird is FASTER than the SierraScope.

"You don’t have to live in Tahoe to enjoy a Blue Bird Day!!" 4/28/2010
Helpful Review?   (3) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Sierra Bluebird Snowboard
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Carving,Chop,Crud,High Speeds,Off Trail,Powder
  • Pros:  Rides powder well switch, Good response, Best looking Snowboard!!
  • Cons:  Have to size up for powder, Stance Width Options, Extruded Base

Experience:   The Sierra Blue Bird is a powder board and so much more. This board with a little bit of taper and true camber design offers a great board for the all mountain freerider’s a one board quiver or as a powder board that can also charge around the mountain switch. By not having a ton of taper and having a pretty true twin flex, the board performs quite well switch whether landing tricks are playing around in the fresh snow. The Sierra Blue Bird holds up great under speed and locks well into a carve. The progressive sidecut seems to offer a good amount of hook and return at the end of the turn and the profiled core makes the board have good flex between the feet without twisting out of a carve. I ride my Blue Bird a few centimeters longer for the extra float in the powder. Being really happy with the performance, it does not even touch on how much I like the looks of this board. The Blue Bird is a snowboard that is hard to keep in the garage. Mine is currently up on my wall in my living room. One of the best-looking boards I have seen in years.

Helpful Review?   (2) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Sierra Bluebird Snowboard
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Groomed,High Speeds,Off Trail,Powder,Switch Riding,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  Easy to carve at High speeds ,, Strong Edge hold, Handles everything,, Great Graphics !
  • Cons:  That someone might Take it from you ,

Experience:   I rode this board for the first time when it came out and fell in love with it. I know it's Supposedly a Guy's board , But personally I am not prejudice to any type of board, I will ride anything to try it out Girls/ Guys.. Whatever. I took this board through the boarder cross and it handled great through the turns, jumps, woop-dee-do's.Haven't had a chance to try this board out in powder but from the stability of the high speed runs we did all day, I'm sure it's going to do great through the trees/powder. I would recommend this board to anyone that just loves to go fast and cut through any part of the mountain at the drop of a dime. The Wave graphic on the bottom rules, reminds me of Hawaii (Home).

"Sick, but not just for pow" 4/7/2010
Helpful Review?   (2) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Sierra Bluebird Snowboard
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Groomed,High Speeds,Low Speeds,Off Trail,Powder,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  good at bombing groomers, sick at pow of course, stiff tail for landings in the pow
  • Cons:  weaker riders might have trouble in switch,

Experience:   This is a great pow board, but is also strong throughout the mountain. I only borrowed it for a day and I didn't take it into the park for that day so I can't judge that, but it was a great ride. Really responsive and wonderful carving. The tail being a bit stiffer is a huge plus that I definitely noticed in a couple of landings. Sick graphic too

Looking at the hole setup is a pair of burton 3D bindings compatible w/the bluebird?

bite me
All Burton bindings come with compatible discs for the four-hole pattern that is on this Blue Bird. A three-hole pattern disc will not work on this board though.

"Bluebird 162" 3/15/2010
Helpful Review?   (2) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Sierra Bluebird Snowboard
  • Skill:  Advanced
  • Use:  Powder
  • Pros:  Great shape , No chadder at high speeds, Nice stiff tail for powder landings

Experience:   My previous powder board was a 158 Burton Malolo so I was very curious to ride a little longer board after a few years on a 158. I was pleasantly surprised at the flex of the Bluebird, it felt a bit stiffer than my broken in Malolo in the tail. It felt very solid landing in powder and even when I landed a little in the backseat. The nose floated nice and powered through chop with a nice damp feel. Over all in powder I would give it a huge thumbs up, and am currently looking for wall space to hang up my old Burton Malolo. He was a good soldier but has met his replacement! I was most surprised at how well this board behaved on edge at high speed. Running groomers was super fun and really felt that extra size made it very stable at full speed.

Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Sierra Bluebird Snowboard
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Carving,Crud,Groomers,Powder
  • Pros:  Super stable, edge hold, smooth ride, Strong top sheet, carves great,, glides right over the chunky stuff.
  • Cons:  One of the inserts was a little scuffed up when, I got the board. Had to mess with it a bit , to get the screw in.

Experience:   I'm a small town rider. Only spots near my house are tiny, so I mostly cruise around and ride park. This year I took a trip to Switzerland for real big mountain riding for the first time. I bout this board for the trip on the basis of it being solid at speed, carving well, and pow float to boot. It was great! Very stable and solid without feeling choppy or hard on the knees. The flex is mid-stiff, so I would recommend this as a big mountain pow and carving board. It wouldn't be as good for forest riding, or anything where quick movements and flex are required.

  • Skill:  Intermediate

  • Pros:  Good shape, Handles high speed, Can use in park

Experience:   I recently purchased this board as I wanted a powder board to go to Japan with. This board is certainly not just a powder board. It did perform in the powder extremely well, but I also tokk to the croomed runs, trails and into the park and it handled everything perfectly. I originally thought I would only use this in Japan but will definately be my board of choice in the powder starved slopes of Perisher this year. Really impressive board, not to mention the awesome graphics that always draw a pair of eyes in the chairlift line.

  • Pros:  Float, Smooth Landing, POW!!!

Experience:   So, lets just start with a big thank you to sierra (trusnow.com)!!! I won this great board on the daily give away and let me tell you. Moving out to CO and using this board on pow days is amazing. I have a Burton Process that I ride in pow too but this board is super light and floats like a feather. This would be an amazing pick up even if I didn't get lucky enough to win it.

Experience:   I debated between this board and a palmer, decided to go for this one since it was 70% on sale. It is fast, stable, floaty, and the white part of the top sheet depicted is actually transparent and you can see the wooden body underneath, which is really cool looking.
