"Smith Phenom" 5/14/2010
Helpful Review?   (5) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Smith Phenom Snowboard Goggles Men's
  • Pros:  Great Fit, Good Design, Great Vision
  • Cons:  not compatible with some helmets,

Experience:   I got these after using Oakley crowbars for about 3 years, and I love them. They fit really well when wearing just a beanie, but they but fit as well with certain types of helmets. These offer a great range of view because of the spherical lens. So if you are in the market for a new goggles definitely, look in to getting a pair of Phenoms

"Pretty good goggles" 3/26/2010
Helpful Review?   (5) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Smith Phenom Snowboard Goggles Men's
  • Pros:  Style, Fit,
  • Cons:  Big foam piece, poor fit with helmet, on the smaller side

Experience:   I've been using the goggles all season. I bought them to be compatible with my Smith Holt helmet as part of their helmet goggle integration. I like the way they look and fit without the helmet however the foam actually sticks up outside the frame (can somewhat be seen in pictures) causing a gap between the helmet and goggle. I switched over to electric goggles after trying my friends because I liked the larger size and they actually fit better with y Smith helmet. The Phenoms are still a solid goggle and have held up really well over multiple uses. They do look pretty good if you're not wearing the with a helmet IMO. I still have them and use them when I'm not riding with a helmet or for lower light conditions (lighter gold lens) or as a loaner pair if someone forgets their goggles. Overall decent goggles just beware of the foam if you plan on wearing them with a helmet.

"Nice goggles..." 4/15/2010
Helpful Review?   (4) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Smith Phenom Snowboard Goggles Men's
  • Pros:  Fit Great, Functional Lense, Cool Design
  • Cons:  None!,

Experience:   Just got these for an insane deal to supplement my goggle quiver. I already have the Anon Figments with a dark lens (Blue Solex), so I needed some for the overcast days. I got these with the sensor lens and the fit is great, the fit with my helmet (Red Mutiny) is almost perfect, and the lenses do exactly what they're supposed to. For me, they're even a little more comfortable than the Anon's... great overall purchase!

"Perfect!" 9/18/2011
Helpful Review?   (3) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2011 Smith Phenom Snowboard Goggles Men's
  • Pros:  Perfect, comfortable fit, great visibilty, Never fogs
  • Cons:  none!,

Experience:   These goggles never fog up, ever, even when I was boarding with a wind chill of -15 in thedbo. The spherical lens gives you a perfect field of vision, without cutting off the sides. The phenom's conform to your face comfortably, with or without a helmet. The style is sleek and minimalist, and doesn't scream out with bright colours like other brands do. Overall, Smith Phenoms have everything you could want in a pair of goggles, for a nice price too.

"Great." 1/13/2012
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2011 Smith Phenom Snowboard Goggles Men's
  • Pros:  Comfortable foam., Look nice.,

Experience:   These goggles hands down solved all the problems I had with my previous pairs, Ill break it down-EG2: Fogged almost instantly in all conditions except bright sun, couldnt wear a helmet or face mask as both made the fogging much worse+Phenom: Never fogged on me all day, from a little rain in the morning, to getting pow blasted in my face while riding, to a break in the clouds, to hiking a little uphill and getting pretty heated while wearing my variant brim, to the blistering cold after the sun went down these didnt fog once!....and all in the same day!-Mace: Really heavy and stuck out way far from the face+Phenom: Totally light and have a low profile fit-Fenom (VZ): bad selection of low light lenses+Phenom (Smith): Sensor mirror is INCREDIBLE!!!! Ive never seen a lens that can make the surface appear brighter and more natural looking in cloudy blue light, its like shining a flashlight on the entire mountain, even at night Ive never been able to see so clearly, much better than VZs blue night lens-A Frame: terrible pressure on the forehead and just tiny all-over+Phenom: Its been a while since I had my A Frames but these are about the same size if I remember correctly, they provide a more even fix because the frame appears to distributes its size horizontally instead of vertically, giving you more side to side vision and keeping pressure even and off the foreheadThe only con I can think of for these is the lack of mirrored lenses, but other brands have those covered pretty well. If you want pure function then these have to be the way to go.After riding in these two days I sold my EG2s and bought another pair with the Platinum mirror lens. Ive been sold on Smiths optics, they dont mess around and really know what theyre doing instead of just trying to look cool

  • Pros:  keeps air out, no fog, fits great, comfy ,
  • Cons:  lense will scratch easy be careful,

Experience:   These goggles fit a small to medium sized face. The foam can be a little weird at first but after about a day they mold to your face and become super comfy. So don't worry just yet. also the foam pushes the top of the nostrils closed a little until they get a good form fit of the face. But once they do they keep the air out. No fogging problems. Hey maybe you want a little air, well there is a vent that you can slide open at the top of the goggles. Cool little feature. the peripherals are great(for a small to medium face),They didnt block my vision at all. The head strap may be difficult to get around really big helmets, but if you dont wear one they fit great. also on the strap is a clasp in the back so you have to stretch it down over your head. Just put it on you face and clip in the back.( no more fuckin up your beanie). Also another cool thing, ( not sure if it on all lenses) but for the rc36 lense it has a porex filter that gets water out of goggles.(hence no fog) more aboot it here: http://www.porex.com/technologies/applications/crossflow-filtration/ Great goggles highly recommend

  • Pros:  Platinum Mirror Is as good as they say, Fit well to my face,
  • Cons:  Easy to fog, Small field of vision IMO, Did I say easy to fog?

Experience:   Bought these at the end of the season last year with the intent to use on the sunny spring days. Just as the sierra description says, the Platinum Mirror lens is AMAZING on blue bird days. Felt like I was the terminator vision wise. Everything pops with this lens. On the downside, anytime the temps ducked below 25 or so, the goggles constantly fogged up. As in every single run, on the way up the lift, doesn't matter...constantly fogged. I was also no the biggest fan of the field of vision. I felt pretty blinded in my side vision field. As stated in my pro's, they were comfortable and fit my face well, and I have a honker of a nose. Over all though, as much as I liked these goggles fit wise, and lens wise, I would not buy again.

"Phenoms" 8/8/2011
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2011 Smith Phenom Snowboard Goggles Men's
  • Pros:  Good fit, Stylish, Comfortable
  • Cons:  Fog issues, Scratches easily,

Experience:   I used these goggles for a few weeks before returning them for persistent fogging lenses. Yes, on sunny days they were fine, but as soon as night came along, or on those inconsistent weather, I had fogging issues which would not go away. I tried everything from trying to wipe or airing out the goggle separate from any heat source, and even bought goggle wipes which prevent fogging with no success. Perhaps my particular goggle was a defect or what not, but I was not happy with the performance of these lenses, compared to Oakley's or Spy's which I recall to have no such issues. They fit and look great, but the lense quality was lacking imo.

"Pretty good" 3/5/2011
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: Smith Phenom Snowboard Goggles Men's
  • Pros:  Style, Visibility,
  • Cons:  A bit small, Doesn't really fit helmet,

Experience:   The goggles themselves are pretty good and they serve their purpose. But i sort of have a big head and i can feel the goggles kind of squeezing my face. It's noticeable at first but i sort of got used to it. It doesn't fit snuggly with my helmet either (i'm wearing a pro tech). I did notice some fog build up because there was a little gap around the bridge of my nose, but maybe it's because I'm asian. Otherwise, it does what it's supposed to do and it's still a good pair of goggles. The review may seem a bit negative, but the cons aren't enough to make me go out and buy another pair. Would be perfect if it weren't for my big head!
