"True to its name, the Wilderness is designed to give you ultimate access to just that – the great winter wilderness. Featuring Tubbs’ RII Revolution Response system and the dependable Cobra™ / Viper™ traction system, the Wilderness fuses the biomechanical advantage of the Fit-Step™ frame with industry-leading snowshoe technology. With a 10% reduction in muscular-skeletal impact resulting from the Fit-Step™ frame, and the popular 180™ binding, you can now hike longer and farther than ever before."
"Key Features of the Tubbs Wilderness Snowshoes:
RII Revolution Response: Energy efficient and effective, RII delivers shock absorbing lateral flex and quick side slope responsiveness to maintain a natural foot position in all conditions. Full step rotation allows the tail of the snowshoe to drop, shedding snow and allowing the toe crampon to bite deeply.
Python Heel Crampon: The aggressive Python heel crampon, centered under the boot, delivers enhanced downhill braking traction.
Fit-Step Frame: The innovative and biomechanical aluminum Fit-Step™ frame, designed with a slightly upturned, rounded tail, reduces muscular skeletal impact on hip, knee and ankle joints by 10%.
180 Binding: The easy to use 180™ binding combines ‘step in’ convenience with the 3D fit that Tubbs’ patented Control Wings™ provide. Gender specific, asymmetric bindings align the boot directionally as the contoured, padded upper provides pressure free support, a secure fit and added warmth.
Cobra Crampon: The carbon steel Cobra™ toe crampon, located under the ball of the foot provides constant penetrating contact in variable snow conditions. Jagged tooth construction improves grip on packed snow and ice.
SoftTec Decking: Tubbs SoftTec™ decking provides durable, lightweight flotation.
Viper Heel Crampon: The Viper heel crampon with variable tooth height provides weighted traction, giving added stability and downhill braking.

  • Name: Tubbs Wilderness Snowshoes
  • Pros:  Lightweight, secure binding system, grippy cramp ons

Experience:   I'm 6'1 and 225ish. I've rented this and the 119.00 version several times in sizes 30 and 36. To me there is very little difference other than the binding system. This one tightens up easy with a two handed tug outward and is super convenient. There are only a few more convenient bindings out there. The cramp ons are grippy and will keep your feet on the ground under most conditions. I find that for my body type the 30 model provides plenty of float and are a little easier to maneuver than the 36. I've never gone out with poles before, so I'd recommend the snowshoes instead of the kit package they are selling. But then again, there are some people out there who swear by them. I feel like if the snowshoes are fitted right you should be able to forget you have them on and just walk normally. So unless you normally hike with sticks or poles, snowshoes should be fine. I stick mainly to the backcountry and found them to be responsive and steady to unseen logs, holes, etc hidden under the powder. Float was pretty good. For me float is something you only appreciate when you go back and walk through that same area in regular boots. Then it seems like tedious tiring work, where with the shoes you were just hiking. Really it comes down to how important it is to have the easiest bindings. They are basically the same throughout the product line except for the binding system.
