Author: Geology Rocks
Subject: 19306
Posted: Oct/06/2008 at 1:02pm

Some people call them Butters, some call them blunt slides. Its one of the most fun tricks do haling ass besides maybe a big b/s 180 method. here is my tips and advice for people who want to learn them..

Things to keep in mind:
1) The board has flex and you need to over come that.
2) Balance on the nose or tail
3) Edge control and twisting of the board
4) Understand that the body controls everything.

Advice:
1) Dont try to force the board. Think of it as a bow and arrow. if you pull back fast you will jolt forward fast right? Instead apply smooth and flowing force in the direction you wish to lean or flex the board. This will make it much easier to flex the board to the tail/nose and then stay there instead of rebounding right back to the base.
2) Be 100% fluent switch stance
3) The head and shoulders allow the board and body to move. Leading a move with your shoulder and head will help you stay balanced and smooth as well as continue to the move to completion.

First:
**Learn how to ride manuals or Nollies. By learning how to do so will help you understand how the board slides when its on one end. it will also help you aquire a higher sense of balance. People tend to lean or fall one way without being aware of it.

Now for the 180/360/540 blunt slides. For this example I will teach you nose press styles with backside rotation.
1) Ride down the slope, start slow, but you do need some speed to help with rotation and completion.
2) Let your arms drift out to your sides so they are out like a bird. This will help you balance.
3) Start the rotation by smoothly turning your arms perpidicular to the board so your chest is facing down the hill, once they hit that point rotate them the other way till perpendicular so your back is down the hill. **This move doesnt take a lot of force so go easy and stay smooth.**
4) As you are rotating the shoulders/arms backside gently roll the weight to the nose and mainly onto the inside toe edge. This will float the tail of the board and start the rotation B/S
5) Now you have to keep the center of your chest positioned between your front foot and the nose of the board. This will allow good balance and rotation. At this point also keep the trailing arm behind your heels as this will also help the rotation. I personally will somewhat tuck my leading hand/arm into the chest at this point.
6) You will now be 180 and riding switch so ride away. if you wish to continue the turn repeat steps 3-5 all the while keeping the tail of the board up.

Learn these slow, learn them fast, learn them as ways to get onto rails or pop off rollers. Either way they are super fun

hope that makes sense..lol

joe
