The Caltrans up there did not do a good job during the last storm closing Hwy 2... Today it was fine. 

BUT they were telling people to put chains at the Del taco gas stop... 

What you don't know or hear is that a couple seconds later I hit rocks on that berm... 

What was weird was the snow was creating "waves/mini snow drifts" in the East resort runs every 10-20 ft.... about 2" tall. It was weird, not bad, just weird. 

By 10-11am it was all tracked out and today (Thursday) it was quite chopped up. Sucked with a 40lb pack. 

The bowl was almost do-able. Ski patrol did it a few times and every time got core shots.

On the chair lifts I saw so many people scraping dirt... so If you do go, stay away from the soft closures, even if it looks good (same goes for West resort, inferno ridge in particular). 

I watched about 10 people in front of me scrape their bases & edges on the thin stuff trying to be delicate getting down. I straightlined the entire run and was ok.

Tuesday night... was pretty awesome! 5" of pow by 10pm... 

Your tracks would get covered up within 10 mins because of blowing snow. 

Wed MORNING Hwy 2 closed and there were only 3 rows of cars at west by 10am... conditions lasted until about 10:30 then it was all tracked out. 

Thurs.... roads all clear, hardly any snow in Wrightwood... mostly melted in town. 

The west resort is pretty good... but it's all groomed, don't expect anything more. 

sounds like LA drivers regardless if they can see or not.

Is that the excuse I should expect to hear when millions of people are 

running into me,snaking me, or just straight cutting me off in front of rails and jumps?

Ahh i know. I usually use my parents cars with chains, but Im living at school now and my car's fenders and wheel well will get destroyed with chainsss

I think the forecast showed it was going to rain more than snow there. Hopefully it gets cold enough to open next weekend. 

They may open up as soon as this weekend though with a possible storm rollling in Wednesday.

It't not updated on their website but they just posted it up on their facebook page.

Not a huge fan of night sessions, but if it's the only time I can ride then, I might adjust.

I wish they would've incorporated the helmet line this past season or consider for next.

I like mt high because my buddies don't like the windy drive to get to bear.

Season pass at Mt High is cheaper and probably closer to you but if you're a weekend rider than it's always gonna be crowded.  If you get a pass at Big Bear then you get to ride at Snow Summit and Big Bear but the pass is more expensive and the drive is a little farther.  Both have parks but IMO, I'd choose Bear.  

Way smaller than mammoth and of course way cheaper too and more local.  

It really forced me to like park.

Yeah, I've been to Steven's and Crystal while I was visiting my friend in Seattle.  They had a killer season this year to boot!  I wouldn't mind going to High if it wasn't so crowded.

I would really love to check out Steven's pass though.

Wow, didn't know that!  Steven's is much better than Mt High, IMO.

fun fact. your mt high pass is also good at Steven's Pass in Washington.

It also depends on what kind of riding you like to do too.  But if you can go to Mammoth all the time then go for it.  

They're open tomorrow, and day to day after.

They may be open the upcoming weekend if a storm hits.

I didn't need speed at all.

It was getting shut down periodically because people were getting hurt.

Damn, i'm going the 2 weekends prior to that, so dont think i can make that last weekend. 3 in a roll is a stretch for me to drive. And yeah, you'll have to be in Forest that weekend, they plan to close Canyon after 4/22, so no South Park :( Hopefully you guys shoot some vids!

i've heard predications that next season will be back to normal if not slightly better... but I always that at the beginning of each season. I'll watch for the the long term forecast and farmers almanac predication in mid summer and just take them with a grain of salt. 

in the meantime i'll just focus on surfing or maybe wakeboarding to try to fill the void of the season.

What weekend are you guys thinking? Would be nice to meet up. If anything I'll just see you guys at Forest or South park??

Didn't see snowplayers at that time, but it seemed icy to me, or I was just really phased that it looked like it was icy while riding.

No surprise there, of course it's gonna be packed on a holiday.

on top of that the playground is closed because of the Nike Chosen event.

I was going to ask if you went night boarding when you had a cabin, 

then I realized last year was only 4 days ago.

wish I could help, I only have a $7 off coupon from snowjam, and a friend with 500 points.

My friend told me that he got a free ticket with the $7 off coupon, but another friend said that they got $7 off with it, I guess it depends how smooth you are at the ticket booth.

we're really hurtin for snow.

They were blowing on friday and I was still able to go for them, I ate it hard though on the biggest kicker.

THey were blowing last time I went so the run in was real moist and sticky.

I was disappointed I couldn't hit em. Hopefully they're there for a long long time.

True! that's why I just went for the big kickers and it was scary the first few times, but I definitely got use to it quick.

I was hitting them more towards the end of the day, around 3/4ish? There was like no one taking those jumps anymore and I was in blue/grey with my trusty bright yellow burton hero! 

I agree... I've actually seen them do some maintenance work. Still not as good as Bear, but since High is the only local hill I have a pass to this year, I'll stop comparing. But the really annoying thing that the park crew cannot fix are the little rollers that get created on the jib/jump line at lower Chisolm from people breaking right after a feature. I've only seen this at High, maybe its cuz the features are so close together? Those things jack me up more than any feature this season

I've been pleasantly surprised with the park crew lately, they have been maintaining features more than I can remember in the past, and it seems like there are a lot more of them out there too.

Prime day for first chair tomorrow, I should be headed up.

It was awesome, fog rolled in and out, but  that was later in the day.

There was soft stuff all over, I was also glad they weren't blowing because while I like that they make snow, I don't like it blowing in my face.

you should get your beauty sleep in if you wanna go since i'm pretty sure chains will be required and make sure you put them on all 4 wheels and at your house too. don't want you to lose control on the surface streets too.

no such thing as better snow than the other since they get the same storms but big bear is usually a few degress lower than mt high but you can hardly tell the difference

Yeah, High has been blowing(snow) for a while and finally stopped today.

While I love that they're getting coverage, everyone that talks about it on the hill hates riding 

while they're on foggy goggles loud airplane noises and snow/ice rocks in your face.

Their lift's had maintenance problems and shut them down for about a few hours today.

All in all, I'm just glad to be boarding.

Condolences go out to the family.

from about 8-12 the clouds blocked out the sun, so the Borderline jumps were nice and soft.

and they had a nice vert for good pop to em, i guess since they had some snow to throw around this weekend.

Hit the quarterpipe too and finally had enough speed for the chisolm jumps.

Some family asked to record me while hitting them, which was kinda weird, at least they asked.

Going with summit/bear pass as well.  Mt high has been great for the convenience, but the layout of the mountain (west) where every run channels and funnels down into one lift is horrible.
