What are your takes on the sergio being sergio (aka whiney mcnonuts)? 

 

Every hole has some sort of eye-trickery and optical illusion.  The greens are wonkey, and they look small from the fairways but they are quite large in reality.  A few risk reward holes added to the fun as well.  I can't recal how much it was, but 18 holes (2 9s) with 1/2 cart was around $30 bucks.  My cousin and I were 2 of 6 total people on the course for the 1st 9 on a Saturday morning. 

 

They were still in winter-protect mode, so the greens were really shaggy and SOOOO slow.  I putted with a 5 iron from 55 feet and still left it 10 feet short.

 

 The longest club I used was my 3 Hybrid (I can't hit a wood to save my life all the sudden), and I shot a 98, despite finding some water, three putting at least 8 or 9 greens, getting a mad crazy case of the pushies, and being totally thrown off from the design. 

 

 

That is a nightmare.  No reason to pay up front, just to continue to pay high green fees.  But maybe I saw that because I shoot in the 90s and course quality doesn't really effect how much fun I have.

Tempted to get back out today and try again. Maybe it was a fluke thing but either way it has to be corrected.

What course are you doing?  I am figuring they are drying up with the weather this past week, but I hate spring golf in Oregon, the courses are usually plugged or all mud.

That was one of the craziest shots I've ever seen. Idk how the ball stayed up there in the first place.

Now the youngest person to play in the Masters. I think it's safe to say that won't be broken for a while. But the kid is amazing! Looked poised throughout til he got penalized.

 

Which brings me to my next observation/rant... it is time to separate the rules for pros and joes.  As cool as it is to say "I play the exact same ball as my favorite pro,"  he (or she, let's be fair) can compress and manipulate that ball in ways we "handicap guys and gals" can only dream of.  Same thing with clubs.  Taking away amatures box grooves was plain stupid.  Harder for us, yet the pros still bomb and gouge away (like it's no thang! ;).  I'd also make an argument for the "trampoline effect" of the club face.  My mid-slow driver swing probably can't even make a club do that anyway, so why limit it for me? 

 

If one of my playing buddies broke out the broomstick, i'd make fun of him... a lot.  but i don't think i would say he shouldn't have it.  pros are a different story for me. 

1- the "one club length" rule--> adam bleeping scott has used his 26 foot long putter to address his drop area. 

2- tour pros are not joes... therefore, anchoring does give them an advantage.  Faldo and others were talking about this weekend how they figured a long wand was going to win the Masters, because of their performance on fast greens: it's much easier to heel the club to control downhill putts with a long putter.

 

(not sure why they don't all do it, if it is "that" much of an advantage)

In other golf related news, i pulled the trigger on a 4 and a 5 hybrid last night.  Taylormade R11 Rescue.  They were super cheap, and if you bought 1 you got the other at 25% off, so what the heck.  Just need to re-grip them when they get here (i play an undersize grip) and adjust them (flight control FTW), and hopefully start getting scoring ability out of my long irons.  i'll be moving into the white club head crowd with these two.

Not a good start for Sergio in Rd 2 with two bogeys.

Woods sitting around 10th right now. I'm sure he'll turn things up these next couple days.

Glad to see the fire in Tigers' eyes. Hope old Tiger is back to stay. When he's on, I swear is allergic to bogeys and/or three putts.

 

I'm thinking it's time to take my sticks into a club fitter to make sure the lie and lofts are still correct.

 

I want some new clubs... but tax season really took a bite out of my play money.

That is where we differ.  I HATE trying teach the basics of golf.  It goes so slow (and I am expected to be an expert because I golf well, but don't know everything about golf, so I am likely teaching wrong).

I have done spanish trail (awesome) and Desert Rose (terrible).  staying on this strip, so the closer to that is better.  I've seen lots of deals in summerlin which is kind of a costly cab ride, but better than what it would cost to play at Bali Hai or the Wynn.  

Any thoughts on the closest, best golf for the money?  I've looked up course rankings at golf now, and it seem like everything is a 3 to 3.5 star, so it is hard to decipher.

I do get how anchoring helps remove the yips, but if you see little adam's performance down the stretch, I'm not thinking it helped him at all.  but, 3 of the last 5 major winners have used them. hmm...

 

Here's the thing.  i wanted a ban on the long & belly putter.  they went and banned the "anchoring of the club."  Totally different thing.  You know how you can take your hybrid and belly it and chip from the thick fringe?? banned now.

 

At the beginning of this season, I had our club pro re-grip all of my clubs with undersized grips.  It helps me release the club better, so pow! snap hooks! 

 

But, I'd rather have them than slices any day of the week.

You should be happy if in fact you're hitting a draw.  Good players hit draws, and bad players hit fades in general.  But from the sounds of it you're hitting a snap hook.  Slightly different story, but it's still better than a slice.

your swing plane has probably become a bit flatter for whatever reason.  when i want to hit a draw/hook i really make sure to stay flat and turn my hands over.  when i want to hit a fade/slice i make sure to start high and finish high

Tiger's match didn't really matter after Striker lost.  Even in a tie Europe wins.

Let's count the ways:

The biggest match might have belonged to Justin Rose. He was on the verge of losing to Phil Mickelson when Rose holed a 12-foot par putt to halve the 16th, made a 35-foot birdie putt from the back of the 17th green to win the hole, and then closed out Mickelson with a 12-foot birdie on the last hole.

Six of the 12 matches went to the 18th hole on Sunday. The Americans won only one of them.

Other than that, best golf I've seen in a long time, what a finish.  Europe also should have conceded Tiger's last putt that he missed, it meant nothing and was embarrassing.

Miracle at Medinah or Meltdown at Medinah?

That's a little misleading.  He played golf at a high school that has produced other PGA players, ended up at the University of Georgia.  Something tells me that somewhere in there he may have had a little bit of guidance.

On the other hand, Tiger seems like the kind of guy who would not play 18 with you, rather he would have you caddy for him and verbally abuse you the entire round.

Now of course, the rest of my game has gone in the toilet for whatever reason, so I'm back at square one.

OH, and my brand new, 1.5 month old Callaway RAZR Fit driver was stolen from my car along with my work laptop, so that's a bummer.  And i was hitting some really huge drives with it too, such a shame.  The last one I hit with it before it went walking away was 295-300 straight up the fairway.  Looking on the bright side I guess 

Driving was excellent, only lost one ball all day and had all pars, bogeys and one triple (lost ball).  The one annoying thing was how close I was to under 80, I was JUST missing each green, having to chip on from a lot of fringes and quite a few 3 putts.  My putting is by far the worst part of my game most of the time.  I just can't seem to figure out speed a lot of time, and mostly coming up short then missing a 5 footer.  

What do you guys use to practice distance lag putts?

Personally I'll be watching a lot more of the PGA championship than the Olympics.  I just can't get into most of the Olympic events.  I'm sure there will be plenty of people watching golf this weekend.

Your girlfriend plays golf?  That's a double-edged sword.  One one hand, you probably get to play a decent amount of golf.  On the other hand, you know, you're playing golf with a girl.

I got it from budgetgolf.com. It looks like they have gotten in a lot more since I bought mine as they now have several more options. Had the chance to take it out and give it a try yesterday. Felt great and my drives were long and straight. It was easily the most consistent I have been with my driver since I started playing. I would say it's because I'm getting more comfortable, but the rest of my game wasn't very good yesterday so I feel like I have to give some credit to the driver. I think my game is about to start getting a whole lot better though. One of my friends was on The Big Break Europe several years ago and he agreed to work with me on my swing. Looking forward to seeing the results.

I guess you can't be a weekend warrior. Also probably not married with children?

Now I just need to get out on a regular basis.

9 hole scrambles suck.  I was so ready to take the turn and continue on to play 18.

Well I went ahead and bought it. It's the FT-9 Tour rather than the regular FT-9 (not sure the difference is these 2). The $25 on that site is the trade-in value, has resale listed at around $45. I paid $70 for a brand new/never used one.

I don't think I'll ever play there again, mostly because of the heat. It's also laid out with a lot of sand traps and water, and with no little pictures of how each hole is laid out, it was kind of a guessing game of what is behind the green (most of the time, it's water).  Our tee time was $100, plus $50 for rental clubs.

Being in the SF bay area, i only play in ideal conditions :)

just got my first set of irons (macgregor m75i) after using past-me-downs of random different clubs. my 3rd time out on the course, i find a chipping wedge that i've been using. it seemed to be pretty used since the grooves on the face are pretty faded. i kept it cuz seemed like someone got really pissed off and chucked it far off away from the green where i shanked my ball to. sooner or later i need to get 2 wedges and a new driver. i like my driver is very forgiving, is a callaway big bretha 12 deg., but is old, i can def. benefit off a newer driver.

no more snowboarding... time to golf full time. hurt my effing back again from snowboarding... need it to recover quick.

Was very fun.

This has nothing to do with ESPN, they would love to cover the entire day, the Masters dictates when tv coverage can start not the networks.

There was a great article in the latest Golf Digest written by Hank Haney about how Tiger became obsessed with training with the Navy SEALS. He would go parachuting and to other practices, he was very into it and always talked about how he wanted to become a SEAL to follow in his fathers footsteps (his dad served in some part of the military). Hank would always could made because he knew the worlds greatest golfer was risking his career. The knee injury is a combination of his very aggressive, unique swing and the SEAL training.

he's damned good in the beginning but after that, he seems to just lose focus on the late game hits...

I really like him too. But i love to root for Phil also.

Callaway hyperlite 4.0. Only complaint is they don't have full dividers and the club holes are kinda small.

I'm stoked cause i just got some cobra s2 irons and adidas tour 360 shoes!
