It sounds like you were persuaded to buy boots at your local shop. You don't have to do this. The important thing is that you try on the boots that you are planning to get before you buy them. Once you find out which size is best, you can feel free to find the best deal (which can be on the internet).

Actually when I got my boots, I didnt try them on first. Instead, I tried out other boots from the same manufacturer. It worked out for me, but I don't know if it's a good idea to try this.

There are plenty of options for $300 & less. Just make sure it has the features that you need: tru twin, flex that you're comfortable with; 156cm is probably a good base for your frame (+if you want more speed / - for more of a freestyle feel), & older models will get you more for your $. Most 2011 boards won't have significant improvements vs. the previous model, except for new graphics.
Honestly, you should do some research, check it out in-stores, and then bargain shop online. There's so many options right now for under $300. If you want a stiff board, check out the Salomon Drift Magnum. Sweet board and ultra-responsive partly due to an equalizer side-cut. Buying a boot randomly off the internet without having a clue about fit is a recipe for a return. You are sizing up which is a mistake for most considering most people size up on casual shoes for a looser fit meaning your snowboard boot would likely be smaller than your normal shoe if anything. Even if you know your size manufacturers vary on sizing. For example I wear an 8.5 burton slr and my Nike Kaijus are a 9. Chances are around 75% you will have to return the boot or even worse you will not realize that they do not really fit and it will affect your riding.

Do yourself a favor and try on some boots.

the stunt is a reverse camber board and the blunt is a camber board. My vote is one of the crew if you want the most bang for your buck.

I see you've decided already, but definitely the crew over the quiver. I have an older quiver, it's a nice stiff board, but the extruded base was quite slow I thought. I waxed sintered base is much faster.

Oh and check an older black death or stairmaster extreme for around $300

For around $300, I'd buy a used board for a best deal. Can find boards in real good condition in the classifieds.

Lots of boards would be fine. A lib tech t-rice, uninc, easy livin, black death, agent rocker.

You don't have to spam your own topic especially when it's only 14 minutes apart from your last post. Don't be so needy. Yeah, I use it almost strictly for "free riding" But i live in MN so we don't really have any really big hills around.

The board probably would be a little too short for serious mountain free riding.

But if you are just riding around on groomers as you learn the smaller size might not be a horrible choice.

It is tough giving advice over the internet, since you don't really know how someone rides or their style or skill level.

If you think it is 152 is too short it is probably best to go with that instinct.

I think someone mentioned it about but they have a 2010 capita quiver killer that is a 155 priced at 250ish. that might suit your free riding style better.

I'm 6' 160ish with a size 12 boot and i ride that board. Well mine is the stairmaster technically, but they are the exact same board except the graphics. Works great for me.

Yes look at the Capita boards here on sale...The midlife artist is a rad board. I own the midlife photo and it is sick. Stiff enough to take anywhere but super buttery tail and nose still with plenty of pop. I think this board would be just fine for a beginner. It is a midwide but has a super deep side cut so still nimble edge to edge and I only wear size 8.5 boots with shrink tech.

The quiver killer would be a good start for you...the green machine flat kick(if you want rocker) or regular if you want camber.

Anyways check out those boards as well.

The burton x8 2009 on sale would be a rad board for you too...more than 300 though...i used to own it but for my money i would go with the midlife it is has the right size for you.

i'd recommend finding a board you like and then seeing if you can find it in your price range. I mainly free ride as well but i hit the occasional kicker and half pipe. So the board i got was a Rome Agent. I was able to get it new for $350 off a guy on Craigslist ($500+ retail). a lot of it was being patient. what board do you have now? that'll help us see where you want to go with your next board. Comparing just the price to other boards, the Sierra boards are way cheaper. If you're on a budget, they are probably your best bet. I don't think that you're ever going to see any board for 50% off anywhere. I think Sierra was the only store to price boards at 50% off or more and now that they've changed owners, the most you're going to see is 40% off on select boards.

As far as a recommendation, I've only ridden a few boards out there(and none that you can find now in that price range), but I've heard good things about the Burton Custom. So, if you decide on a Sierra board, I would recommend either the Crew or Reverse Crew.

I really disagree with this statement. First, there isn't a Kelley Bluebook for snowboard and a quick check of Craistlist will show that.

Second, from what I've seen with the Sierra boards, there is *zero* (as in none, nil, cero) difference in quality from those that you'd see with Burton and Capita, who are more or less the brands the boards are based on.

My own feeling for Burton board quality aside, for a beginner these boards are a very economical way to get a lot of features on a board you can grow into.

Sierra boards are @ about 100% of average sale price over the last 6 months in fact they are a little higher maybe about 120% of average sale price.

But it appears with Trusnow as the owners, this is the new standard price.

What you have to ask yourself, is does the low purchase compensate for the lowered resale value and the short lifespan of the sierra boards....

Hey guys. I'm looking for a good board that is less than $300. any suggestions? I am 5 ft 10 inches. i weigh around 150 lbs. I'm a beginner. I can link turns and can almost go down diamond trails. I mainly freeride and dont do much park stuff. thanx for the help
