Ticket wise, a lot of the smaller resorts at Tahoe are still cheaper compare to Mammoth IMO.

Mammoth is a great place but it's 1 huge mountain (with June Mountain nearby) compare to a lot of resorts at Tahoe. You travel far, might as well go to different mountains here compare to sticking to 1 albeit very awesome mountain.

Kirkwood has awesome terrain for good pow days but they don't put too much effort into their park. Northstar is also another great resort and they're parks are killer. If you go to Tahoe, you'll have access to Kirkwood, Northstar, Heavenly, Sierra, and a bunch of other really good resorts which are all within driving distance from Tahoe. Besides the resorts, it's got a little bit of night life too and it's a beautiful area.
