If you want to get a taste of what it's like, some of the websites have free public leagues that you can join for the playoffs.

 

The one on NFL.com is a bit weird because points multiply each week you keep a player, but you get an idea of how it all works.

 

The one on ESPN.com is a salary cap league, so you can pick any players that fit in your salary cap.

 

Neither of those works like a regular season fantasy league, but you get an idea of how points vs. performance works and what combination of players/positions gives the best value.

I would like to point out you are all lucky I didn't make the playoffs, as I had the highest scoring team both playoff weeks

 

This is the only one of my leagues that has happened.

 

One other league is #1 vs #3 (me) - 12 team league with 6 making the playoffs.

 

Other leagues are #4 vs #7, where eight teams made the playoffs but they're also smaller leagues. Maybe there is something to limiting how many teams make it in, but I still like at least 6 playoff teams in a 12 team league.

i made the mistake of playing luck over cam last week in my money league, and lost because of that. :(  i would have had the highest scoring team this week, too.

Yup.  Was the number 3 seed (so just missed getting a bye), and my team put up 183 thanks to Seattle+AP and others.  Now I'm playing the number 2 seed, and I have a bad feeling about under performing, as I'm projected to win by 12.

Second the congrats to DCC, B Deeper, Kong and Lightning for making the playoffs. This was by far my toughest and most competitive league, mostly because of the long rosters. Not much luck for me, missing the playoffs by one win (frickin' Eli).

 

I made the playoffs in my other three leagues...

 

...second seed in one and lost in the first round with the second highest score (frickin' Seattle D)

 

...lost in another league with more points on my bench than with my starters and would've won if I started Hernandez over Welker and Moreno over Bryce brown (which I meant to do, but forgot before Moreno played on Thursday night).

 

...actually won in my final league, moving to the second round against the #2 seed. I'm projected to win, but we all know how little that means. Wish me luck.

 

hahaha..if brady stayed in the game, you probably would have won from the extra yards...but you had the houston D going against you everytime brady scored..welker got just enough touches to give me enough points to make the playoffs

 

I think I need to mix up my strategy next season.  Rodgers was good, but there was only a couple weeks he made himself worth the #4 pick.

 

Oh and so much for my huge sleeper in .5 ppr Peyton Hillis....siggggggghhhhhhh

Really didn't want to end the season at the bottom, 11th would be just fine.  I assume we have no consolation bracket seeing as it would be 8 teams in two weeks.

I'd start Big Ben instead of Romo. Dallas D is porous at best...and I'm a Cowboys fan.

I'd would play Wilson, if Bradshaw is out. Seattle D was good because any D would be good against Arizona and their lack of QB or running game. But I would still start Seattle ahead of Detroit.

 

By the way, I hope Brady throws all his TDs to Welker today, and run up the score on the Texans defense through their running game.

QB: Don't really like either matchup for Big Ben or Romo, Wilson is still out there as a FA

Flex: Garcon, Bush, D. Wilson (if Bradshaw is out).  Don't really want to have to depend on Bush in the playoffs, as he always seems to blow it in "easy" matchups, but my league has 0.33 points per carry, so a RB who gets his carries is almost always > a WR

Def: Picked up Detroit, but Seattle did just get me 43 points...

I forgot that Oak played on Thursday this week, so at least I can see how Reece is used.  But I was definitely considering the sneaky move.

Edit:  Fuck it I gave up on Reece for now... but now I'm having an internal debate about whether or not I should pick up Harvin, cause I'm in a keeper league and he was picked in the 4th (so next season he'd be a 2nd rounder).  I grabbed R. White this year in the 2nd... and right now Harvin still almost has more points than him even though he hasn't played in 4 weeks.

 

The loss of the CBs does weaken the Sea D, but the 49ers don't have anyone to challenge them. I'd be a bit more worried about them vs Buf, who like to sling the ball around.

 

I'd play Sea this week, especially if Kolb isn't back.

 

As I said, the only week I'd think about playing the Jets is vs SD in week 16.

 

Det vs Ari week 15 is a good play, again if Kolb isn't back, but it's hard to carry three DSTs.

 

A sneaky play would be to drop the Jets for Det Sunday morning, then get the Jets back for Sea after they've cleared waivers. If you don't think the Jets will survive waivers, then it might be worth dropping Reece, assuming you have no use for him the rest of the season.

 

All that being said, this is a whole lot of thought for juggling DSTs that are unpredictable and may yeild little to no point differential.

I still have Reece on my bench, but I don't wanna drop him for at least one more week until I can see what happens with that whole mess of a backfield.

Edit:  Apparently Browner started his suspension this week.  Sherman's appeal is next friday, and considering just about nobody has successfully appealed an adderall suspension, he's likely to be out after this week as well.

Busy thread today after being quiet the past couple of days. I'm still bummed I'm basically out of the playoffs in this league... guess I'll have to focus on the others that all start the playoffs this week.

 

Yikes!! There's no others available? Definitely not Arizona. Maybe the Jets vs SD, who may have thier bags packed by then. I'd stick with Seattle for sure this week against Ari and next against Buf. Their CBs may be able to drag out their suspensions longer, so I'd roll with them until that happens, even against SF the final week over the other two.

i don't think it's a given..anyone can have a big game or have a bad game any given week. or a main pt earner could get hurt in the 1st play of the game. and my team isn't that good to begin with...

Can't believe BDeeper only has 7 more points scored than me, and is 9-4, and I'm 3-10 lol.  243 fewer points against.

I hear that, you are the only one who has more points scored against them by 25 haha.   BDeeper has 260 points less scored against his team than me, lucky dog. 

 

Being 5-8 when I was matched up against the highest scoring team in the league 4 weeks of the 13 weeks really isn't so bad.  It could have been much worse.

I've been cobbling together a line up with spit, bale wire and an old burton tow strap all year.  really proud of my team.  

Which DEF would you guys rather start, NYJ vs. SD or Ari vs. Chi?  

I've been rolling with Seattle through the season, and they seem to have one good start left in them before I drop them (SEA vs. Ari), then their CBs will be suspensed, and they end with games against Buf and SF.

 

Also I think Bdeeper wins the luckiest schedule of the year award with his second place standing and nearly 200 total points less than me

same thing happened to me in my other league last week.  instead of 6-6, i ended up being 5-7.  still gonna make the playoffs after a win this week, but it was a game i should have won.  lost by 14; sat cam for luck (23pt diff), sat felix jones for mendenhall (12 v -1.4) and sat pierre garcon in favor of donald jones (15 v 2).  bench ended up outscoring my starters by a point.

Pretty much had the same situation with RGIII and Rodgers this year.

huge mistake not starting RGIII thanksgiving week.

With two very similar, high worth QBs, you should trade one to shore up a rb1/wr1 and just live with your decision. if you leave points on the bench, it just sucks, and you're always second-guessing yourself.

I also only just realized we don't start playoffs until week 15.

12 Rush Att's  = 3.96

83 Rush yards = 4.15

1 RTD = 6

1 Recep = 0.5

7 Recep yards =  0.47

1 Fum lost = -2

Seen it come within a few hundredths of a point, but never exact haha.

you're not a game out, you're just about 170 points scored out :)

1st and 2nd get byes in our league... and week 14 is the one week of the playoffs that I'm stuck with all shitty matchups, and I can't get to the bye because only one of the two ahead of me can lose.  

0.8 points... reminds me of losing to CToma by 0.5 points in the first round of the playoffs last year, then proceeding to be the leagues top scorer for the final weeks of the playoffs.

 

Cam got me 46.5..and Brent Celek only 2.9...what a waste of a good week from Cam..the rest of my team sucked...

 

I'm in 10th and I'm still updating every week.  I got hosed with Sproles and found out too late to swap him out, as all the free agents were on waivers.  I got annihilated so it didn't really matter anyways haha.  Until the end my friends.

Philbin is an idiot.  Bush is by far the best offensive player on their team.  Sitting him on the bench so Daniel "what's my name" Thomas can get stuffed at the goal line is beyond dumb.

Edit: Holy shit.  I literally have the worst luck when it comes to playing teams that don't even change their roster.  The guy I'm playing left fred jackson and hernandez in, so I figured I'd have an easy win.  Guess not: Blackmon = 25 points, Bryant = 22 points, Cobb = 19.5 points, Brady = 35 points.  Probably gonna lose /vent

I'm 6-4 right now with the most overall points in the league so I am most likely making it to the playoffs (I am third place with 5 ppl at 5-5)

I looked at CJ2K's Nov & Dec numbers for the past 3 years and thats the months he is the best.

Foster was very tempting but dont think I can afford to give up CHI DEF with them scoring like a QB.....haha

I'd go with DHB against NO, but I'm not sure you want to listen to my advice with my teams performance lately.

How's your overall win-loss record? And who are your other RBs. I trust Foster ALOT more, but he's only scoring 7 more ppg (points per game). I like Decker more, but his ppg is just about a wash. I wouldn't toss in Chi D too averaging 18ppg. I'd try to find someone else to throw in more inline with 5-10ppg.

 

If you're happy with your team, I'd stay with what you have. You're giving up too many points per week.

Damn this week's waiver wire is Oakland Galore.  I need to figure out how bad Big Ben's injury is, to determine if I need a new QB which would be either Palmer or Rivers.  Also considering dropping Britt this week cause he has a bye along with a few of my starters.  The pickup options include Reece or DHB.  Same goes for Stewart who I'm not convinced will do anything the rest of the season.  Andre Brown is still available, who is looking promising if Bradshaw keeps getting injured, but he is also on bye this week.

I wish I could get something out of Daniels, but nobody in my league seems to want him cause he doesn't have "elite TE" projected stats, even though he has consistently put up 9-15 points in my league.

His defense is ATL which he also offered. It's garbage so im gonna drop them anyways and pick up a new defense anyways if I do go through with the trade.

Thats the main thing....that CJ2K might start sucking again....

If CJ2K can get me a decent number on a weekly basis, I would not trade at all....but you never know.....

Also, how many more pick-6's can CHI DEF get? hahaha

strengths of schedule in this league (PA, basically) are much more even than in some of my other leagues.  In another league, I have the highest PA at 961, and the lowest is freaking 691.

Yea, I think any of the 4 teams with 4 wins will also be done with a loss this week.  5 weeks seems like a lot of time, but DCC has a position locked down unless he pretty much loses out, which only leaves 3 spots.

My season has gone in the exact opposite direction. I'm looking at a fourth loss in a row mostly due to bad matchups, ill timed byes and injuries. Life of a FFL owner. At least I'm holding my own in my money leagues.

He honestly could have done more.  I don't get it, when you're RB is averaging 10 yards per carry, you don't just forget about him and put the game in the hands of your average starting QB.  I feel like that's what happened in the second half.  They were never down by that much to where they needed to move away from the run game.

One guy in my league has both Ryan and RG3, and I've been trying to get one of them, but he is super slow/reluctant to trade, even though one is always sitting on the bench.  I figure Id have to give up one of my starting RBs to get him in a trade.

On the other hand, another guy has Rapelsberger on his bench, who I think I could get for Flacco+LeShoure for Ben+Stewart.

Kolb should put up good numbers too. Cutler is definitely a gamble, but I'd play him over Romo. And Palmer should be slinging it around trying to keep up with Atlanta, so there's three I'd pay over Romo. Take that with a grain of salt tho because I just don't belive in Romo.

I'm pretty conservative, so I wouldn't start DHB unless I was desparate. I wouldn't even pick him up unless my WRs were weak. I'm in the bay area and have a pretty grim take on the Raiders; they haven't really show anything so far this season. We knew it was going to have to be a rebuilding year going in, so it's not a surprise. Even next year is going to be tough.

Agreed, I retired a two time defending champion.  Haven't won the entire thing, and most importantly lost a dollar in the 4 seasons since.  This will be my first season not making the playoffs though

i'm 0-4, going on 1-4 in one of my leagues, and i'm still in it, because we take 8 teams to the playoffs.  

either way, since both of my other leagues are on yahoo, it's almost zero effort to set my lineup even if i don't care anymore.

I agree that short benches (and fewer teams) would help keep the interest (or hope) up better in free leagues. Something to think about for next season. Or maybe we could vote to shorten the benches this year, but I'm not sure how much that'll help right now.

 

I'll continue to stick around and keep my team updated so the rest of the league doesn't get an easy win, although with how crappy my team is, it's pretty much an easy win anyways

Yea it sucks, but I do understand the feeling.  My team blows, and I don't think any waiver wire pickups are going to be able to help me.  I mean I'll take my bye players out, and try to make some pickups, but I've basically given up on this league as well.  Just beat one of the two guys ahead of me in my other league moving up to #2 at 4-1.  It's just so much easier to enjoy leagues where you are actually winning haha.

I agree with Dking.  If you want to sacrifice depth to fill your bench with every single backup QB/DEF/TE to keep them out of the hands of the opponents, that is definitely a viable strategy.  It doesn't usually work as a season long strategy though due to injuries and BYEs.  Also, Min could end up being the worst fantasy D in the league going forward, and that could have been a terrible use of a high waiver spot, you never know in FF.

Yea... the Cardinal's oline cannot run block for shit.  That and they don't bother to run Williams.  I basically need to root against myself this week, cause I need A.P. to do well, and I want my Giants to win and you apparently have half the team.  Guess Eli just needs to throw to Cruz all day, maybe with some missed extra points.

Can't decide if I should let Hanson, Jacquizz, or Britt go, or if Romo has played poorly enough to consider dropping him.  Whoever I decide though, there are enough good kicker replacement options this week that I'm waiting till sunday to add, hoping nobody uses waivers to claim whoever I drop.
