i love unions, but minimal hardware? yeah right. they have twice as many pieces as the average burton, for example. i counted. heres a more realistic picture, same bindings (forces)

man, come on. Just for the record, I, too, quite enjoy Burton bindings.
I've owned the Cartel's, the CO2's and the Est's. BUT when you strap in to those Union Forces, you know it feels more minimal.
That highback is waaay softer than any Burton highback (that i've tried).
love both, BTW

no no, i wasnt saying anything bad about union. and i wasnt saying more parts is bad, either. i was only saying they dont have "minimal hardware."
dont get me wrong, i love union, and i agree that they feel minimal. |

PWAahhh that stopmotion video is so cool :-)
I love my Forces! Bring on pair #2!! and i'd like to see a burton dis-assembled to compare. Im sure they have just as many parts if not close. |

nope, they dont. forces vs the standard burton, it was something like 46 to 26. unions have way more parts no matter how you look at it. the union baseplate alone is 8 pieces NOT including hardware (nuts/bolts), while a burton baseplate is only two.

and i have datas on my 09 fish, so im stoked on that too. i figured out a way to make unions work with ICS without it being weird. |

yep. its not that hard either.
i did it last year for my friend when he borrowed my custom ICS.. the ICS disks fit in the union baseplates (though its pretty tight) but it works. we just put those straight in, and then put that baseplate cover thing on. the problem was that the ICS disk with padding and the bolts that stick out were pushing up on the union baseplate cover thing, but it still worked. so now what ive done is taken the padding off the ics disk (if you get under the adhesive, it peels perfectly off). then i put the union baseplate cover thing on were i wanted it, and then hit it straight down a few times to try to make an impression where the ICS hardware was sticking up. then i took the baseplate cover thing off, circled the marks from the hardware in pen, and then took a drill with a big drill bit, and at an angle, i carved out a dome in the plastic of the baseplate cover for the hardware to fit up into, so then the cover could lay flat on the baseplate. anddddd it worked! ps - baseplate cover thing is not a technical term.. i dont know what to call it. but you know what im talking about? |

Its called the gas pedal. Would it work by just leaving the gas pedal off or would the bolts stick into your boot soles?

I only snowboard because its cool.

i would have called it a gas pedal, but its not just a gas pedal since it covers the whole baseplate except for the very back (heel).
i tried it without it and it would work, but the sole of my boots goes up a little in the middle so the bolts kinda have a place to fit. but then without the gas pedal/padding, you lose.. well, just that. gas pedal and padding. so i wanted to keep it on. |
