well, there was the great Snowboard-Ski Conflict of 1987. that was a brutal one, but in the end we massacred them.

hmm, i guess you could write about how some boarding companies are trying to go green (and how much the sport pollutes, energy used, etc etc)  or you could write about how back in the day (and at a few places even today) snowboarders weren't allowed on certain Mtns, go into why, and how/why it began to change ($$)

I'd say start researching about snowboarding pioneers (Burton etc) and what the issues they had to deal with, there were a lot more problems back when it was less accepted.
Capita Horrorscope 52 - Union DK Custom House - GNU Riders Choice 57.5 MTX - K2 Formula - Burton Retro Twin 52 - Burton Cartel OLS - Thanks Sierra!

not too many huge controversies.
There was a bit thing back when Craig Kelly was still riding for Sims. Sims basically wasn't paying him or pushing product development the way he wanted - so he left and went to Burton.

Sims got pissed, sued - and for 2 years craig, sims, burton were locked up in this legal fight. Craig couldn't ride a board professionally with a logo on it, burton couldn't put his name on any of thier products.
CK rode a blank deck (produced by burton) - and Burton released the "mystery air" pro model. The "mystery" rider being Craig Kelly.

Not really a huge controversy - but i think that was probably the first big corporate legal fight over snowboarding - and involved arguably the 3 biggest names in snowboarding, one of which being one of the best snowboarders of all time.

watch first descent Clap a lot of the opinions might be from the snowboarder prespective, but could be useful.

And like Sin said research the pioneers of the sport.

You could write abot how Terje boycotted the 98' winter games because the halfpipe contest was run by a ski organization. And how he went on to create the Artic challenge as an alterntive.

is this a research paper or an essay?  with an essay, you'd need a thesis and argument.

I belive it was 98', the year Ross Powers won the gold. I could be wrong though, not so good with years and time and such.

Powers won in 2002, that was the US sweep. 98 was the first time it was debut into the Olympics, and when Terje refused to compete
