Hey guys..

I just picked myself up a pair of ride teams and was wondering how abouts to set them up with regards to angles.  I know different angles reflect different riding styles, so I would have to say I'd just be freeriding down blue runs.  If anyone's got some input that'd be greatly appreciated..

Cheers

for some reason, i always hear that riding duck stance with the front foot angled at about +18º and the back around -9º is a good way to start.. they say it's easier to learn riding but i may be all wrong...

Stand on your board sans bindings (without them mounted) in the position you would feel most comfy riding.  Mark the toes and heel centers with a small piece of tape to indicate the angle (doesn't matter the number value right now) and align the bindings to the same angle...take note of the angle so you can use it as a reference point if you have to tweak one way or another.  Place the bindings in the centered position of inserts you have.  If you find when riding in powder you dig the nose, move the bindings back one insert.

Centered on the deck with your natural foot angles is most comfy I have found.

Starting out, I would definitely go +45F and -45B.
Just joking. It seemed easier for me to learn duckie. That is what I ride all the time now. Easier to ride switch also. +15F/-12B

one thing of concern was that people tend to naturally turn their bodies forward down the mountain when snowboarding (like skiing).. would that put some unwanted stress on the front knee since it's not angled out a lot?

how'd u measure ur angle by inches zagfan5? if you look on ur baseplate, there might be little numbers on it with an arrow on the binding base to distinguish what angle stance you are riding at.

So when I get my new board set up there should be little numbers on the board that will tell me what my actual stance is?

the little dashes should be on ur base plate of your binding.. there will be some kind of marker/arrow on ur binding, and then a disc that you can spin the binding on to set up different angles. when u figure our ur stance angle, u drop it on top of the screwholes on the topsheet of the board and screw the binding in... i tried finding a picture online, and this was the closest i could find..

they have a basic stance recommendation in most binding booklets. when i got my first setup, it was around +12 to 15 on the front and about -10 on the back. i think it's going to make your life harder to set up in more of a duck stance than that. in my opinion, you should learn to ride forward pretty well before concerning yourself too much with riding switch. i don't know how much experience you have, so take this with a grain of salt.

And if you're not trying to do a lot of freestyle, a duck stance would be unnecessarily hard on your knees.

i like to carry a little driver with me so i can adjust my angles as i go. then you aren't locked in for a day of discomfort if you chose the wrong angle.

oh that's tight. Well I haven't gotten my new bindings in the mail yet they should arrive on monday so then i'll take a look at the numbers. The numbers right now mean jibberish to me lol. My first board was a morrow, with morrow bindings and boots and I just stood how i felt comfortable and they strapped them in. Come to think now that could make such a difference in my ability to move forward in my skill level. duck stance is how?

like this
| |   or like this
\ \   or like this
\ |
??

my morrow is currently set up like this
\ |

my burton i think i want to set up more like this
\   \

I haven't started learning to do tricks etc thats where the Stigma comes in I want to move forward in skill level. What would be the better stance of the three give or take a couple of degrees?

duck is more like \ /. default setup is often like \ l if you ride regular. with a few degrees negative on the back.
this l  l  is no good.
\  \ is more for racing and i think just plain hard to deal with.

yea, i'd definitely adjust the back foot to be angld a little towards the tail, rather than perpendicular to the board.

go 4 wutevers comfortable. Ive also heard of an idea of jumping off of something (not too high, like a table or chair or somethin). stick the landing and look at where u put ur feet, thats oin to b the most comfy position to land on ur snowboard, so base ur stance on that

i think i would land with my feet pretty close together. which wouldn't work on a board. i know you can supposedly do that kind of stuff to figure out if you ride reg or goofy.
