People talk about a light board or a heavy board, but rarely does a board actually state how heavy it is in the product description. Of course it will vary on size, but its hard to just rely on some board saying light weight in its description. And even if your in the store, picking up one board then walking around and picking up another a couple minutes later is hardly an exact science.
Ill go first... My gear is old old old. A 154cm board and bindings gets me about 12 pounds. I am not sure what te breakup of board and bindings weight is.
What is heavy/light for a board? What about bindings? How heavy is your setup?? |

nobody cares? Sure... For what it is worth, the breakdown on my old board was about 8 pounds for the board and 3 to 4 pounds for the bindings. I just moved to a 157 Palmer Classic, which comes in at a pleasant 6 pounds... These weights are only as accurate as our cheap scale can be.

Well either no one cares or no one has seen your post. lol. I'm only seeing yours cause I have the RSS feed bookmarked since there isn't a "View New Posts" feature on this forum. When I'm back home I'll let you know how much mine weighs. Hey I figure you should include boots too.

My board and bindings is just about 10 pounds and with boots it's about 14.5 pounds. I can't be sure just how accurate these weigh ins are because this is on a pretty old bathroom scale. lol. I'd probably say its + or - 0.5 lbs.

our names are too similar (E's and Z's) people will think we ar the same person :) 10 lbs should be just about what my new setup comes in as. I will weigh my boots and throw that in too.

I would think it would make it more control-able, my board is 6.5 pounds, but I'm still looking for bindings and boots

Lighter board is more control and it doesn't tired you out as much. Problem is most light boards chatter at high speeds cause they have a lot of flex.

actually some of the lightest boards are the best at high speeds because the construction has little flex.
Burton Vapor for example. |

boards (and everything else) are light as a standard these days. people tend to worry way too much about weight, and in reality, it varies so little that its basically never going to matter. you can barely tell while riding (or even just lifting your gear up for that matter).

i'm not sure how it is overall, but my old board was like a tank & was pretty heavy. i did notice my new board is lighter and makes a diff for riding up the chair lift and lugging around but haven't really noticed a diff the weight makes while riding, but the boards are so diff on other aspects who knows what is from weight or from other tech. i think you'd have to compare boards that are pretty much exactly the same except for weight to see if there is a difference

I think that it mostly effects spinning, lighter=faster rotation. Now are you really going to notice 4 ounces, I think not. But hey whatevers, people love gimmicks and propaganda.

you will notice weight depending on how it is distributed across the board. between the bindings weight doesn't matter much, tip and tail you will notice more. especially when attempting/completing spins.

ya 12 sounds a lil heavy, and yes it would make a difference, everything they make gets lighter, specially bindings, I wouldn't be too worried about it but you would notice a difference if you had a drop in weight

First off, if your board and bindings weigh 12 pounds that is freakin' heavy. Wow. Did your legs fall off and then roll down the mountain. Cause if so, that would suck so hard. Ya, that's really heavy, get some new gear, but you don't really notice it when you ride so, ya know.

My overall setup came in at a little over 11 pounds. I'm only 92 pounds, so the weight of my gear matters.
I'm stuck with less tech because of my size. How sh*tty! ![]() Option Vega snowboard 138, Burton Lexa bindings Small, Salomon Vigil Boots size 4. |

yeah, whether weight matters is going to depend on the rider and the type of riding.
like pickles said, she's not digging the weight of her set-up. At 92 pounds and questionable muscle, 11+ pounds is probably difficult to throw around it makes sense that if you're into flatland tricks and mini-shred, lightweight is probably more desirable than if you bomb vert and hit big booters (...I'll weigh/post when I pull all my stuff out of storage) |
