First I planed to go to Whitetail on new year. But, it looks like it's gonna rain. It's also gonna be warm too. Hate that.

^^ yea this weekend blew on the mountain, went to wintergreen and it was awful.  not only does the mountain suck bc it is soo small but it was over packed and way to warm...cant wait to go back to snowshoe to a much better south eastern resort

I wouldn't say Wintergreen sucks, especially if your main reasons are that it was warm and there were lots of people./ I mean, what did you expect from the week after Xmas? That's the busiest week for ALL ski areas throughout the country, and I'm assuming you looked at the weather before you went so that's a moot point. It's actually one of the largest ski resorts in the area, and with Snowshoe being 4 hours form WG it's also not a fair comparison.

I do agree that SS is awesome, but not everyone is within driving distance to SS.

haha ok ok granted i didnt make the best points for why i dont like wtg, but i think its a small resort but thats also bc i would much rather make the drive to WV or PA to a larger mountain than stay in VA if i am going snowboarding for a weekend.  wtg is a good mountain if you want to learn how to ski/snowboard on and the park is pretty good but thats about it

overall the biggest issue with the weekend was the warmth and that just made conditions very poor and that wasnt the mountains fault that was just bad timing with the weather so it made a subpar mountain even worse...

Just got back from our club trip to Breck.  Three days at Breck, one at Vail, and one at Keystone.

Unfortunately snowshoe won't even compare in a week or two... haha

Haven't been to Stowe in a real long time, but I always love going to Mount Snow.  It's a real good mountain if you're into park riding.

I've never been to Mount Snow before! I started doing a little park at the end of last season but when this season started, my confidence went away so I haven't been back. I'll give Mount Snow's park a try if its covered with fresh pow.

BTW, are the trails wide there?

They have a whole face of the mountain basically dedicated to parks, of all shapes and sizes, for beginners and experts.

And it depends on the trails.  The main greens you go on to get from side to side of the mountain are always annoying cause they are not very wide, and always have a lot of beginners on the trails.  They definitely have a decent amount of terrain to work with though, especially when you compare it to anything in the southeast.

We're the club formerly known as the "Virginia Tech Snowboard Club," now known as the "Blacksburg Boarders Club," cause my freshman year VT said we weren't allowed to use their name anymore for numerous reasons haha.  Although we are allowed to meet on campus again as of this year.

Looks like some horsesh!t weather is coming to our hills.  I was planning on going up tomorrow but i dunno how i feel about riding in such crappy conditions.  Is anyone planning on going to either Whitetail or Liberty tomorrow?

Very rarely.  Ive gone up a couple times by myself thinking that my Ipod will be enough to keep me occupied, but it gets boring kinda fast.  Sitting on a lift by yourself sucks!

Went to liberty yesterday  because I-70 was at a stand stiil.  Conditions were alright but of course, they groomed everything down so there wasnt much powder to ride.  Their park was solid though, much better than what Whitetail is offerening.  The mountain is just too small!

But they have a bar, which earns them a handful of points that Whitetail cant match.

Made a quick trip to Bryce Thursday night, first time in like 8 year i have been there and its only 30 mins away.  They hadn't groomed any trail since before the snow storm rolled in so conditions were very nice and only about 30 ppl there.

Anyone know what the storm this coming week is suppose to bring? snow or Ice?

Visited a friend at UVA over the weekend so we hit up Wintergreen on Friday night. We're noobs, but we had a great time. It definitely has one of the better beginner areas I've seen. Super wide, long runs - it was awesome!

Do they have the conveyor belt lift in the beginner spot yet?

I made the trip to Camelback Mtn this year and its snowed every night so you got a fresh two inches every morning. It seems that for good snow we will have to go north this year not west. Since they keep getting blasted and we keep getting missed!

I liked Steamboat but really didn't get the chance to experience WP since it was only 1 day and cut short cause of injuries.  Steamboat has a true resort/locals feel too it. WP seemed to be very family/kid friendly.

I rode my 159 GNU CHB MTX at Steamboat and was having issues cause of lack of wax and edges but it didnt help that I put on a few pounds too.  At WP I switched to my 161W Ride Cue and felt a lot more comfortable.  I wish I would have made the switch for day 2 at Steamboat.

I definitely gonna go back. Maybe even next month. LOL Smile

Gotcha. I just got back from Beech for 7 days and ddin't go to CO since we're intermediate noobs, plus my brother is a total noob, still cannot link turns. Maybe CO wouldn't have been a bad choice?

i am an intermediate noob as well, CO is perfect to learn on. The powder is definitely softer to fall on. LOL  The green runs are gentle slopes that seem to run for days.   Even the blue runs, especially the cruisers, after the initial steep drop ins, were great to ride.

i had to get used to the powder moving underneath my board as i turned. definitely something i never experienced at wintergreen.  its kind of nerve racking at first, but then you realize "its supposed to do that" Big smileLOL

I really like Wintergreen, but they just keep jacking up their lift prices, and the season pass isn''t even good for Saturdays or Sunday mornings.

Well, the plan is to move to Denver this summer after we get married, hopefully we'll both be able to get jobs before we move out there. It's gonna be close to a grand to just fly out there and do interviews and checkout apartments in the area. We're moving for a few reasons, but snowboarding is definitely toward the top of the list.

Hmm..I may be able to swing that...I could use a sick day and head up on Friday...let me know for sure..and I'll decide what I'm going to do.  I have a night club card so nights are really doable.  With the recent temps here....the snow is soooo slushy and slow..it feels like the nose is being pulled down to the point you might lose it.  The park has been "ok"...cant really hit the one kicker I like to hit without bombing from the top of the park b/c as soon as u get to the face it was like a dead stop.  the boxes and rails were good to go..and the 2 smaller kickers on the j bar side as well.  I was hoping night riding would hold up better with temps dropping some and the snow getting better.
