I suppose it's the price we pay for snow!  although it does make the trip to monarch not seem so bad when it only takes about 2.5-3 hrs and is twice as far, they just need more vertical there.

Hahaha.  You guys are learning why I never bought the Epic Pass when I did ride resorts.  Your travel choices are seriously limited on that pass even though it has "more" resorts.  Do you want to go through Summit County or Summit County?

There is a reason I avoid Summit on Sundays at all costs.  The drive home is just ridiculous.

This makes so much sense now. I just moved here and it seems like the best choice for me. I don't sit on i70 traffic often...but when I do, it takes 4 hours haha.

I just love Keystone and Breck's park terrain park way too much. I'm thinking of getting the Copper/Winterpark/steamboat pass next year.

^yeah it was an easy drive for me too. patience is always needed when coming back. got stuck behind a snowplow on the way up so it was around 35 mph for most of the drive.

have you done the cat skiing at monarch? i have been hearing good things. I was thinking it could be fun to get up there sometime this season. maybe take a weekend trip out to butte and monarch or wolfcreek.

We killed some time in Frisco and left just before 7pm and the drive was fine. I had to go slow due to my crappy tires but there wasn't any traffic jams. We always check Google maps for traffic before we leave now.

that's why I was at Monarch, they have decent terrain and the snow was good.  It's geared slightly toward skiers, but honestly that's most cat trips.  You just have to plan ahead a little bit to avoid hiking much.  Having a good group of skiers with you helps too!

We were lucky at Monarch they had a couple feet of snow in the last 36hrs before we rode, then sunny skies almost all day.  Can't complain a bit, conditions were perfect, terrain was fun, and the guides were great.  Compared to WC and CB Monarch is a short trip with little traffic.  Just don't speed on 285.

and...I am heading back for another cat trip in a couple weeks.  Hopefully they keep getting snow.  Big smile

talked to Katie about it at lunch!  maybe a couple day cat trip (retallak or baldface), drive up to revelstoke and ride there for a few days?  take a 10 day trip...pricey, but fun.

BF doesn't do 1 day trips. Either 3 or 4 and its the whole enchilada included. It's turly is an experience of a lifetime. Everything there is grade A!!! A 3 day trip with some side hits in Revelstoke would be fantastic. The actual cat-riding operation doesn't really matter, i just think finding something all inclusive while cat riding is def the way to go! Jut wait till i finish an edit and post a gallery! It will sell itself, lol

I went out to keystone for the 1st time this year.
Park was great but I didn't like that you had to pay extra to take the cat out to the bowls.

LOL! That is funny. When i was leaving the parking lot today, the parking lot dude jokingly told me parking is free but we charge you to leave. ...kinda the same theory with getting out of the bowls i guess. Smile

Oh you paid for the super expensive lot! Yeah there's a huge free lot...and a north satellite lot with a really quick shuttle! All free.

The parking lots that you pay for at Keystone get you just about mountain side. You are basically at the base of River Run. All in all it’s not that long of a walk to & from the free parking so I don’t know the advantage of parking in the pay lots unless you have a ton of gear to unload and drag with you.

Yeah this is true, I've parked there once...but only because I drove and everyone else in the car split the cost of parking. But I get it, I always get super lazy to take the shuttle to north parking lot after a long day of shredding.

We were planning on going, but then Kim got a job screening interview thing at 2pm so we're stuck. And I'll likely have to work Sunday so that may be out too :(

Season isn't over yet! Just spent the day at Breck adventuring up to Imperial and did some hiking to put down some extremely fresh tracks! The snow condition between the trees are still extremely awesome too. It was slightly warm at the base...but snow came in and out!

Also, on i70 today after the twin tunnels, I was being tail gated by a corolla all the way down the steep part of the highway....and then he past me.... only for me to pass him up at the end of the hill since his car was in the ditch. geez drive safe everyone.

Sucks for him, but I'm glad he got what was coming to him for driving like a jackass.

Yeah, I said the same thing. Then I felt bad right away. He was tailing me, and then passed me up with some snow on the road.

I know! We were less than a mile from the exit to the resort too. He was just rushing...and ruined his morning.

Went up to Keystone today....kinda icy and slushy...but outback peak was pretty sweet! Sad that the closing date is approaching extremely quick.

Go To A-Basin!!! Even during peak season A-Basin is infinitely better than Winter Park. ...any bump here in Colorado is better than Winter Park. It is the flattest mountain in Colorado! Mary Jane (sister mountain to winter park) is good but over all you money & time are spent better at a real mountain in Colorado. Head To Summit County!!!

I really don't know how to respond to that without sounding like a jerk but wp/mj has a lot to offer and calling it less than a real mtn would suggest ignorance.  Fact is abasin is a great mtn. But so is wp. If you plan to spend more than a day, abasin doesn't make the most sense. If the snow is great you'll have fun at either place.  But to be honest I'd avoid abasin just due to the crowds you will likely see.  Wp has had more snow and better conditions most of the season.

WP has the longest flattest runs & lengthy cat walks. What they consider a blue run is a glorified green at any other resort. I understand run grading is subjective to each individual resort but the WP side is not very fun for snowboarding. Granted a good time can be had anywhere but WP is not much fun to ride unless you stay on the Mary Jane side of the mountain. Ride Keystone For Some Real Fun!!! Smile

Smile

Keystone closes TODAY..Dead

And I agree with nfinite....A-basin is gonna be SUPER CROWDED bc all the other front range resorts are starting to close. That's when half of denver and all their moms and dads head to A basin...simply bc most of them have the epic local passes, etc.

^ Was at Keystone from 3/30 - 4/3, had a great time except for a tree run between Spring Dipper and Bachelor that was a disaster...  River Run is a fun village, my family had a fantastic time.

I was there that weekend too! Outback peak tree runs were full of powder, it was fantastic. I'm just bummed bc they are getting MORE snow this whole entire week and they already closed. booo Cry

It really depends.  If there is great snow, it'll be the only place left for those with the vail resorts pass.  If it's a typical day, could be you and another 100-200 people.

You have two pretty good choices.  As long as basin keeps their bowls open it will be good riding.  If you go to WP/MJ and the Cirque is open, there isn't much better riding in the state.  You will have to drive to basin as there is no local lodging, but I am sure there will be some good deals in Keystone (only 7 miles away).

and as far as the WP/MJ goes, if you want good terrain you are on the MJ side, if you want a terrain park you go to the WP side.  Dark Territory is their bigger terrain park and requires you watch a short video and pay an additional fee (only required once per year) and you get access.  The rest of their terrain parks aren't really worth it.

I would expect it to be spring conditions! I don't think it's much different from Keystone or anything. It can get windy sometimes, so I'd check the forcast before I head up. Yeah staying near Keystone and Silverthorne will be a nice short drive to A-basin too!

After this weekend when Breck closes too, I'd expect the crowds to come to Abase.

I made some weak attempts to try and get in touch with you on the 29th.  I was going to hit up Keystone for a couple hours...went to copper instead.

Went from 70F yesterday to 15F right now.  Just wish more of this snow would go to the mtns... just a pita here.

I live out by DIA and there's maybe an inch on the ground. Is it worse by you? Ideally I'd want highs in the low 50s for Denver and highs in the high 20's and tons of snow for the mountains all season long.
