i am 5'11.5" and weigh around 180. i was saving my Dark Series 161 as a powder board. will it work? otherwise, i'm going to sell it and get myself the Mullet from this year. infinitely more sweet this year with the MTX!

the mullet is a pow specific board.
dark is more of a freestyle board. you can definitely ride pow on a 161 dark, but with your specs, you'll be leaning back a lot. sell it and get a mullet or a larger size dark (does it come in a larger size)... you want a pow specific board (within the normal size run) or a longer freestyle board (think 64+) |

you definitely could get away using a 161 in pow. how often are you in pow?
the mullet is a pow specific board so it will definitely be better in pow. plus with a setback stance and a tapered shape, it will be an easy ride in the pow. yah i think the 160 would work great for yah. or the 56 if you want it for trees.
the dark is sized right for you to use it as a freestyle/freeride machine for hauling arse. but at 180 and that board, i think you will be unhappy if you are in the back bowls of Vail or the hobacks in JH.
i'm just sayin....
have you considered a fish or malolo? the fish is a pow machine.

not very often so far. that's why it's on reserve. i do ride a fair amount in the trees and there tends to be plenty of powder there (even in the east). i hope to be living near better snow in the next year or so.
i am a Lib guy, so i have not considered the Fish or Malolo. it's funny, i had last year's Mullet in a 160 that i got cheap. i sold it cause i thought it was too short. is a 160 going to be too long for tree riding do you think?

i would say no. i run a 160 fish when it's deep at stowe or jay.
most my friends run a 156 fish. all depends ya know. most people say a smaller pow board is better for the trees on the east. i have the 60 since i got an amazing deal on it and i really like it. but it does feel longer than a shorter board would (duh). |

I ride a 161 timeless in the tress all the time. Haven't had a problem yet with trees. I do carry a Dakine snowboard shovel with me if i do sink into the powder to deep. If you are a good on the spot planner your tree runs will be a breeze with a 160, but i guess thats just the way i think of it.

i just want to make sure i get a board that can do both. i was a afraid the Dark Series would not be great in the powder, even with a setback stance.
i think the Mullet might be the thing to get. especially if i can ride a 160 and still float. |

yeah, if i didn't already own the Dark Series... granted i had the Ship last Spring for about a month and sold it before i rode it. i think the Mullet will be the perfect addition to my quiver. i have boards that do everything else. i doubt i can make my money back on the Dark Series anyway, ebay has been flooded with those for months. maybe i'll ride it and see. |
