So, how is Angel Fire?  I'll be coming back from a 15 month combat tour in Iraq end of January, so I'll be pretty pumped to hit the slopes.  I did Ruidoso in 2006, but we went early in the season and not all the mountain was opened yet.  But overall I didn't care for the area too much since you can't stay anywhere close to the mountain base.  So I made reservations at the Angel Fire resort since the gal I talked to on the phone told me that the lift is just right outside the lobby.  Any opinions?
I came here for the big butts and I was not disappointed.

angel fire is pretty sweet. idk if you have been to sandia, its like that but bigger. when i went it was freezing like -15 in the night. and we didnt find much to eat, just pizza and chinese food. and the hotel rooms suck, suites are the best, get one of them if you can. In short the lodge/nightlife sucks, but the resort itself is pretty good. If you're good enough (i'm not) 1 would reccomend going to taos.

I was not aware that Taos allowed snowboarding, but it looks like they do now as of this year.  I guess they wised up and realized they were losing money.  I'm not too concerned about the nightlift since I'll be going with my wife and three kids, lol.  But thanks for the tips!

Staypuft13, Thanks for your service and I wish you safe travels home.

Angel Fire is cool, there are lots of cabins, etc. that you can rent and stay real close to the resort.  Depending on what kind of rider you and your kids are, I think Red River is a really cool little town - the mountain pours right into town, but it's not that big or challenging.  They used to build a little park with some beginner/intermediate kickers and small stuff.  We have some fun there.  As with any NM resort, you have to time it right to get some good snow.

I love NM, but if you have the time head up to Wolf Creek and stay near the hot springs in Pagosa.  Natural hotsprings right on the river, decent restaurants and more consistent snow.  Thats the perfect weekend in my opinion.

Enjoy!

Wow! I was suprised to see NM in here. I am from NM I mainly go to Santa Fe, Sipapu, and Angel Fire out here. I want to try Parajito has any been there? I think that is the only resort I have not been to out in NM. (Sipapu is super cheap, but its a real small mountain. The good thing its the first to open and last to close.)

Hey guys. I live in oklahoma and am thinking of making my way out to Toas. I'm using my burton get lifted pass. How far is the resort from OKC? What are you guys' opinions of the resort? I snowboard and am hoping to hit a freestyle park. Do they have one?

I went to Sipapu(20 miles away) and it was cheap cheap cheap. But not big at all. Extremely small mountain, packed quite a few trails on it though.

From Albuquerque. This is my first season boarding, and I have been to Taos, Angel Fire, Sandia, SF, Pajarito this year. Haven't had the chance to try Red River and Ski Apache though. Maybe next season. Pajarito is quite a steep mountain with not that many people. It's mostly locals I would say. Sandia is the most accessible, however it doesn't get much snow during some seasons. LOL Oh well, it's like a 20 minute drive.

I'm in Los Alamos, Pajarito is so close to me I see it when I get my mail. It's much better than Sipapu imho, but last season was my first in NM and also my first on a snowboard. Pajarito is pretty great, I got so spoiled last year that I'd get annoyed if 1 or 2 people were in line for the lift. I did quite a bit at SF too, that's also a fun hill, but this winter got the Paj pass. Includes 3 days at Sipapu, Angel Fire, and 2 in CO: Monarch and Ski Cooper.

Here's a question: where should I go in So CO if I can't wait until Sipapu opens up? I think Wolf Creek opens early in Nov, right?

Has anybody been up to the hills yet? I keep looking at my REI app to see if any snow is falling but it's not looking so good.
