Some people call them Butters, some call them blunt slides. Its one of the most fun tricks do haling ass besides maybe a big b/s 180 method. here is my tips and advice for people who want to learn them..
Things to keep in mind: 1) The board has flex and you need to over come that. 2) Balance on the nose or tail 3) Edge control and twisting of the board 4) Understand that the body controls everything. Advice: 1) Dont try to force the board. Think of it as a bow and arrow. if you pull back fast you will jolt forward fast right? Instead apply smooth and flowing force in the direction you wish to lean or flex the board. This will make it much easier to flex the board to the tail/nose and then stay there instead of rebounding right back to the base. 2) Be 100% fluent switch stance 3) The head and shoulders allow the board and body to move. Leading a move with your shoulder and head will help you stay balanced and smooth as well as continue to the move to completion. First: **Learn how to ride manuals or Nollies. By learning how to do so will help you understand how the board slides when its on one end. it will also help you aquire a higher sense of balance. People tend to lean or fall one way without being aware of it. Now for the 180/360/540 blunt slides. For this example I will teach you nose press styles with backside rotation. 1) Ride down the slope, start slow, but you do need some speed to help with rotation and completion. 2) Let your arms drift out to your sides so they are out like a bird. This will help you balance. 3) Start the rotation by smoothly turning your arms perpidicular to the board so your chest is facing down the hill, once they hit that point rotate them the other way till perpendicular so your back is down the hill. **This move doesnt take a lot of force so go easy and stay smooth.** 4) As you are rotating the shoulders/arms backside gently roll the weight to the nose and mainly onto the inside toe edge. This will float the tail of the board and start the rotation B/S 5) Now you have to keep the center of your chest positioned between your front foot and the nose of the board. This will allow good balance and rotation. At this point also keep the trailing arm behind your heels as this will also help the rotation. I personally will somewhat tuck my leading hand/arm into the chest at this point. 6) You will now be 180 and riding switch so ride away. if you wish to continue the turn repeat steps 3-5 all the while keeping the tail of the board up. Learn these slow, learn them fast, learn them as ways to get onto rails or pop off rollers. Either way they are super fun hope that makes sense..lol ![]() joe |

not bad...tell your buddy to go faster as the speed will help him float more and therefore finish the spins completely.
Thanks Joe |

Another great post explained very well. I am a little confused about one thing though. Do I proceed to the lodge and pick up chics after this one as well?

hey dude. that is camelback!! Yo I wear the same Burton bright orange jacket as your friend. 2 times the park officials pulled me over and told me I need to tame it down and stay on the marked trails, and one time I hadn't even gone down a single run yet so I was positive they had me mistaken. It might be your friend they mistake me for... I haven't seen anyone else with that jacket yet so far. edit: hmmm maybe it's not I just read the title of the vid hah. the trail looks very similar. |

just a question, when you bend your snowboard back is it bad for the board? for example buttering so your hand touch the ground |

No, any quality made board will be able to withstand buttering with your hand on the ground as you say. My buddies butter like that all the time witout any problems to their boards. |

So do you continue to shift your weight from your toes, to heels, to toes, etc...? Thats what I had to do because it felt like my board was catching and I think that slows the spin down but maybe not?

There really should be a trick guide section.. it would be sweet. Being a freestyle noobie, how exactly do you do a manual/nollie? If it isn't too much trouble that is.

To nose press you lean forward, bend your front leg and bone out your back leg and lift it. It isn't to hard once you know how much to lean/bone etc. You should try practicing on a rug somewhere and see exactly how power you need to use.

is it still called a butter when you throw all the weight on the tail or front edge and both hands on the snow? so the boards 90?

How important is it to have detuned edges on the tail and nose of the board? Also for a nosepress, is it possible to press too hard and catch snow on the front of your board?

i don't think it matters so much if it catches some snow but more if you'll catch the nose edge as a whole...and personally i can't see that happening, but that's just me :P

hey guys and gals....
it doesnt matter if the edges are detuned. it will help but its not critical. - I personally shift my weight toe side and heel side. Instead of using my whole body though i just twist and torque my front foot. That is enough to control the nose of the board. a trick section would be sweeeeet and I would gladly contribute.:) joe |
