Alright.. this has been posted before I am guessing but I am going to try and break it down.
Things to keep in mind: 1) At some point in the spin you cant see the ground behind you and you are flying "blind". Dont worry about the ground...its there. ![]() 2) The body leads the rotation 3) the trick is easy if you get out of your own way. How: 1) Stand at the top of the drop and SEE YOURSELF DOING THE TRICK. This is HUGE! You have to have confidence in any trick you do, especially ones where you are flying "blind." Decide which way you want to spin...Front side or Back side so you are committed 100% 2) As you roll in and pick up speed continue feeling the move and seeing what you are about to do. As you roll up to the base of the ramp squat those knees and compress a bunch! 3) As you reach the top of the lip spring up hard. As you are extending your legs turn the chest in the direction you wish to turn. Do the rotation of the chest smooth so everything remains connected and can spin together. I prefer to take off my toe edge, but some people like to take off their heel edge for spins. Its up to you! 4) You are now airborne so dont be a chick s**t and quit now! the rotation has started so pull the legs up to you and keep the chest turned in the direction you wish to spin. ow..the most important thing here is KEEP YOUR CHIN TO THE SHOULDER IN THE DIRECTION YOU ARE TURNING! This will allow the head and shoulders to work together and rotate you. 5) Once you pass 180 you are blind if you spun frontside. Stay committed and don't freak out. stay tucked, chin to the shoulder. This will also help you look in the direction you are spinning which helps you spot the landing earlier. 6) For the landing extend the legs like landing gear and absorb the impact. This will also help you compress an edge into the ground and maintain control. 7) Pick up chicks at the lodge There you go...hope that makes sense.:) joe |

I have never tried any 3's but I am thinking this is the year I do it. Actually this is the year I want to try and do a lot of things. Lots of good info. If you see someone at the top waiting to drop in reading what looks like a print out of this thread that would be me.

for the first time doing 3s its always ok to "slide" off the lip a bit so you are really only doing about a 270 (rotate before the jump) that will get you used to the motion....

thanks for the sweet guide! I've recently been trying to f/s 180, which I feel is a lot easier because I don't have to land blind / spinning backside just gives me the heebie jeebies...are there any tips you can give for spinning backside? (I'm regular stanced)

I'm an advanced rider in and out of the park, and I know personally that I don't give advice really to anyone other than pointing out the obvious, which is exactly what you're doing. I hate when people just spit out words that they've heard and can't back it up. I hope you can.

for you benefit icy here's some help
1 = 180 3 = 360 5 = 540 7 = 720 9 = 900 10 = 1080 12 = 1260 14 = 1440 16 = 1620 (not sure if one of these has ever been done) etc., etc., etc. |

When you approach the tip of the ramp I see alot of people begin to carve the snow in order to get momentum for the spin. Is this recommended?

it is with a low edge angle ... you don't want to edge too hard or you will lose your speed needed to clear the knuckle and you might also go off sideways.
just try with gentle rolling of the ankles. Â nothing too extreme. I pulled my first 3 today at northstar!

Hmm good tips. I'm gonna try to remember to do the chin to shoulder thing. I tried doing a front 3 before but I couldn't get enough rotation. I just ended up doing a 180. Is speed an issue cuz I do think I didn't get enough speed going into it. I'm gonna try backside 3's next time...I think I'd feel more comfortable with those.

you do need a certain amt of air to complete the rotation, but not much. you might be leaning too far back. you should end the 3 looking up the mtn. |

Would stance width affect rotation at all? I tried just spinning 360s while standing on my board not going anywhere and I have trouble spinning all the way around...sometimes i get 270 but I've never gotten a full 360. My stance is 22/23 but if it was closer would it help at all?
