What are the best places up north to go riding? I was thinking about taking a couple trips up north maybe to Boyne or some places in that area. Doesn't Michigan get pounded a lot? Most of the time I will only go as far as Cascade but I know I will end up doing a weekend or two farther away and would like to know where not to waste my trime. I am coming from Chicago.

I went up to Boyne earlier this year intending to ride, but it rained the whole time I was there.  I plan on heading back if they got the white stuff.

You ever hear of Mt. Bohemia?  I'd love to go there when they are getting pounded.

Wow Mt. Bohemia looks like a place I want to really check out. That might be on my list this season. I will have to leave my fiancee at home cause she just started last year. Looks like there is no way she could ride that place.

Where do you ride most of the time crispy?

Well Mt. Bohemia is now on my list for sure. After you mentioned it I have spent the past couple hours at work looking into it. Very slow day today. I don't want to put 1,000 miles on my car so I booked a car for late febuary to drive up there. Next step will be to book a room.

Other than one or two trips out west and maybe Boyne, I plan on riding most at Devil's Head this upcoming season.  Mt. Bohemia is an option as well.

I may also volunteer for Burton's CHILL program again.  Last year it was at Four Lakes in Lisle.

Check out http://snowboard.meetup.com/44/ for more snowboarding peeps in Chicago.

How do I sign up for the CHILL program? I read a little about it and it sounds like something I would want to do. Can't find out how to go about doing it though.

Another great place is Mt. Ripley...

Quick drive from Michigan Tech campus...

Plus this year, all students get lift tickets included with tuition, so I get to shred it up even more!

I rode Mt. Bohemia a couple of years ago and we got 22" the night we were there.  As far as I'm concerned it's definitely as close to out west riding as you'll find in the midwest.  It was totally awesome!  We had 4' of POW in most places, the riding was nothing short of phenomenal.  I would say it is definitely not for the faint hearted,  it says no beginners and that holds true for sure.  All the natural features and tree riding were epic, there's even a handful of cliffs to drop off of.  I saw one kid go off a 15ft'er not knowing he was hitting it and dissappear into the snow.   I absolutely want to make a trek up there this year.  If anyone is going to make this trip drop me a line, maybe we can work something out.

AWESOME!!

A guy in duluth was telling me about mt. bohemia... looks like a pretty sick place to try out.  I'd say it's quite a bit different from your average midwestern riding!
Say Shhhhhh...

You really have to time it when they're getting pounded with snow.  They have no groomers or any trail maintenance and rely solely on lake effect.  I'm totally down for it though we just have to make sure the forecast is in our favor.
