Indeed.  This next fight will be a lot of fun because Pacquiao and Rios are fighters with very exciting styles.  I think Pacquiao is on the decline, age will do that to you.  But sometimes when a fighter gets knocked the way he did against JMM, its is hard to fully recover, physically and mentally.

I think he'll be fine. if and when he retires, I'm sure he wants to go out with a win
is it just me? or is common sense not that common.

This is my least favorite time of year for sports. Never been a real baseball fan so its just a real boring time. Opens up a lot of free time not watching any sports over the summer though so that's cool.

Agree, I always have patients talk to me about how there's nothing to watch on tv because there is no basketball or football and "no one cares about baseball" hahaha. I laugh when people say that quote because I hear it a lot, even from the women

No doubt Manny is on the decline. And I agree with solo, he's looking to go out with a win. I think he's got maybe 2 more fights left in him before surely calling it quits.

If the baseball season was shorter to make the games actually matter, then there might be more interest in watching. In the NFL, 1 loss could end your playoffs hopes. In baseball, you can have a 5-game losing streak and still be in the hunt. So, we have no football, no basketbally, no hockey, and can't go snowboarding...just a bunch of meaningless baseball games. And it's too hot outside to go out. Stuck at home, with nothing to do. Cry

Damn Straigt.  162 games just drag on and on and on except for the most hardcore of fans.  even 8 games (4.9% of the schedule) off the sched would make the season more enjoyable.  End it a week earlier and start it a week later.

Now of course you have the stats guys that wouldn't like how the 162 game era got more time to hit more doubles or whatever they track.

^that is actually a really important reason that makes me doubt they will do that, even if it makes sense.  I would like to see them shorten the season in duration, but with the same number of games.  Make every 4 game homestand include 1 double header.  Wouldn't be too hard.

Playing baseball in early April late March and concluding in November is just f'ing ridiculous.  If the World Series went 7 games last year Game 7 would ave been played on 11/1.  Crazy.

Yeah I'd like to see a shorter season too. Like Lightning said, every game would matter more that way almost like this years NHL season. I'm sure the players would not want to be playing in November.

I'm with everyone, shorten the season closer to 100 games. Nothing like watching your team lose and think well they have 120 more games to make up for it.

Chance in hell of a shortened season happening though, the purists would riot.

The team owners, TV networks, cable, etc. would never go for a shortened season.  More games = more money.  After all, it's all about the money.

Watching games being played in poor weather in Baltimore, New York and Detroit in the American League Divisional Series last year was not entertaining.  Poor weather = sloppy baseball.

Crazy finish by Phil to take the Open Championship.  Tough day for Westwood in his home country.

I'm not a big fan of Phil but that was an impressive comeback. Now that he's won, I guess he won't be complaining that the course is unfair.

I'm glad Phil won, that's one less monkey on his back (there are several still on his back).  IMO he has his priorities in order.  For example he skipped a practice round a few weeks ago to attend his daughter's graduation.

Yeah, phil is killing it.  Two wins in Europe this month after having a huge drought the past 5-7 years.

If this was baseball or cycling, he would be accused of using PEDs.

Agreed.  For example, he skipped a practice round a few weeks ago to attend his daughter's graduation.  You can't afford to do that if you aren't juicing.

Good win by the U.S. to take the Gold Cup today.  They seemed to have control for most of the game, but were only able to punch in that one goal.  A win is a win, though, and this team is playing its best ball in years.

Forehand or backhand?  Just don't try an overhead smash, that would be quite a stretch, pun intended.

Are you saying that I was just going to watch her get all sweaty as she runs around, bends and stretches, and of course grunts and moans for a good 2 hours? I am just a fan and there to enjoy the lovely game of tennis. That is all!

^ of all the sports that women participate in, i'd say tennis players, in general, are the best looking and with best figures. softball and basketball players all look like they have huge lower bodies. gymnists have stunted growth. swimmers have freakish wide shoulders and long arms. golfers look like they have big bones. track&field...they're just not very good looking. of course, there are exceptions. i'm just saying that, in general, that's what it looks like to me.

Ahhh, julius, you had to bring up beach volleyball, didn't you?  Ripped open those wounds that closed so many years ago...

I was a young man fresh out of the University of Sports Training and had an internship as a "Beach Volleyball Sand Removal Specialist (BVSRS as it's known in the industry)".  My responsibility was to assist the players in removing sand from their bikini bottoms, tops, eyes, mouth, ears... anywhere sand could possibly end up.  I was quite good and worked my way up the ranks quickly, leapfrogging experienced BVSRS' with many years experience until I made it to the pros.  Huntington Beach, Santa Barbara, Manhatten Beach, St. Petersburg, Naples, Hermosa Beach, Salt Lake City... I was at all of the big tournaments.  I worked on some of the best... Nicole Branagh, Holly McPeak, Rachel Wacholder, Elaine Youngs... and, of course, Gabrielle Reece who started my downward spiral.

Flashback to the 1999-2000 Olympic Challenge Series... picture a beautiful summer day, temps in the 80's, bright blue sky, waves lapping the sand... Second set of the Championship Series and Reece calls a SCO timeout (Sand Clear Out).  I hustle over to her with my custom made camel hair sand brush, water spray bottle and paper towels.  She points to her rear and I see sand plastered all over her sweaty arse, so I go to work immediately.  A few sprays and wipes later I thought I had removed all of the sand, so she goes back to the court and the match resumes.  Little did I know there were a few grains of sand still stuck between her tight buttocks, which created friction and a high level of discomfort for her as she sprinted and leapt high into the air to spike the ball.  Well, it doesn't take an experienced BVSRS to tell you what that friction and discomfort did to her spike... needless to say she missed the spike and her team lost the match.  Things were never the same for me since that day.  She had me blackballed throughout the entire beach volleyball community, even locations such as Fiji, Malta and Cyprus where a few dollars will convince an official to let you remove sand.

A sordid tale?  Perhaps, but one that demanded to be told as a warning to the young aspiring BVSRS' out there... make sure you check the butt-crack for any lingering sand before allowing the player to continue.  Learn it, live it.

Dude, I don't even know what to say to that. First, I should apologize for bringing up such a painful memory of your lost glory days. I should have known, by your precision mopping, that you had experience as a BVSRS. I guess it only takes one misstep to get blackballed from the beach volleyball industry. You really should put your experiences in a memoir. Your writing shows talent (I should know, I married a Stanford English major). It might be a good way for you to find catharsis with this previous semi-traumatic experience, and allow you to move forward from this psychic pain.

^ No worries.  Years of therapy have been unraveled by reading and responding to your post but I will recover.

I have been approached by noted biographers such as Walter Isaacson, Charles Shields and the like to write my memoirs but the memories are too fresh, too painful to recount.  Maybe one day, when the wounds have scarred over and the fragile mind has healed...

I am looking forward to the US Open, even though Football is gearing up.  I was watching some story lines and found this: http://espn.go.com/tennis/usopen13/story/_/id/9584846/2013-us-open-maria-sharapova-nixes-sugarpova-name-change

I didn't even know there were talks of this.  That would have been fairly absurd.  Branding yourself after your side business.

^ Is it any more absurd than some of the names in the article such as Metta World Peace or World B. Free?  At least she had something to gain from her ridiculous proposed name change.  Personally I think she should endorse feminine hygiene products and change her name to Sugarpu**y.  Maybe she can roll out a line of cabs and change her name to Shararide.  Or breath mints to give to friends with bad breath... Sharamint.

Sad to see the Taiwanese Little League team be eliminated in the bottom of the 6th, bases loaded, and the pitcher beans the batter and gets the loss. Cry

Metta World Peace wanted to make people aware of peace and his elbows.  That's a cause. As well as a pretty dope name.

Sugarpova would still be absurd despite those other names existing.  We don't need to have a competition for absurd names.  I do think the Shararide idea would be great marketing though.

Do you think Patriots are gonna dump Tebow now?  Now who do you think will pick him up?  LOL
Sessions sucks hairy monkey balls, the end.

Tebow is finished.  The Pats carry 2 QBs and Mallet is the backup.  Tebow didn't get any playing time in the last preseason game, not a good sign for him.

I guess he's gonna need to start Tebowing for a new job soon.  LOL  But I wonder why the Pats even picked him up for when they obviously don't even need him.

Tebow will play the next game so Brady can sit for most of the final pre-season game. Brady will play maybe a couple series, nothing much so he won't get hurt before the season starts. Mallet will get a lot of play time. And I would think that Tebow will get in there and get his last chance to make a case of being on the roster, either with the Pats or another team looking for a 3rd QB in the depth chart. Like sideways said, Pats usually only keep 2 QBs on the roster to allow more depth in other positions. 3rd QBs are basically useless in the NFL unless you have a gimp starter (i.e. Vick). So he's gotta play his brains out to stay in NE.

my guess is that they wanted to see if he would be able to play some other position, since he's supposed to super athletic. of if they can coach him up enough to surpass mallett. looks like he couldn't get coached up enough to play qb in the nfl.

looks like he could end up being a tv commentator or something...or just go coach some HS team..
