I could be wrong but I think a proform is something you can get as a certified snowboard instructor that allows you to get discounts on a bunch of stuff from many companies.

I think proforms apply to a larger customer base than that. I think it applies to all the shop owners and employees that carry that particular brand as well...

If you work in the industry or work for a shop you get special discounts from the mfg directly. Only available to people who work for/run/work in the industry or get hooked up by reps.

Pretty much it's this...

Reps for the companies get codes/forums for people, and with those codes [used online] or the forum [like mail-in] people can order products from that company for cheaper prices, the reps usually give them to shops and the shops give them to local riders, or people that work at the shop. Also the Reps for the company do give them out to riders themselves if they see potential in the rider. It's basicially the lowest level of help you can get from a Rep, or company. And since the codes/forums could be given to one person, that person could sell the code to another person if they didnt want it, and thats why sierra is saying no trading them, because that proform, was originally for that first person, they didnt give it to for it to go to some other rider.

Hope that helped haha.

proform abuse is pretty lame.  its a few different things....

person that gets the proform (shop employee/etc) - they could sell them or pass it on to someone who wasnt intended to get it, or buy stuff on it only to resell it (think... buying a sick 09 board for super cheap, and then being able to resell it for nearly retail)

employer/shop that gets the proform - giving it to people who dont deserve it or have no relation to the shop as an employee.. like just handing them out to friends

rep - some reps are too giving.  handing them out to anyone whos around at the time, or giving too many to the employer or employees.

people who get proforms should realize how much of a privilege it is.  honestly, it takes a bit to really understand how to deal with them once you start getting them.. you learn how to not talk about it and respect the rules, and the fact that youre getting a big hookup from a company.

So i realize that this post is from a while ago but i still got a question on proforms. I know how they work ive used them before, but i now work at a snow/skate shop instead of at a mountain (as its summer and i live in boston) and i was wondering when are pro forms released? I understand they go by season so like Company "X", whatever company that may be, will put out all of there 09,10 product out for their proform sales at a certain point, but when is that? I hear I can get them in August but no one at my skate shop gave me a straight answer. Im only asking this because last year i got  Rome pro form really late and most of there stuff was sold out in the popular sizes and they said they dont puut more stuff out till 09,10

HMM would winning a snowboard from sierra, then posting its code up for sale in the classified section be considered a proform??

anyways I gave away my free sierra t-shirt in the good kharma section, would that be considered a violation of the proforms??

Just enter the code into the code field when you go to your shopping cart to purchase. At least I think it's a code field, don't remember exactly what it's called.

neither of those things have anything to do with proforms.

well personally for me. i broke my board. Rome didn't have my board in my size in stock. so they sent me a better board (postermania 150cm) but its to big for me. so seeing that they didnt have my board they said send them the a reminder email and they would give me a proform coupon come late aug early sept for the o11 board i wanted..

was just curious to how much discount i should prepare for when late summer somes around.?.

anyone want a buy a postermania 150cm test road only... its awaiting your abuse... a reverse park board that can hallass, shave ice, and hit booters. beleive it or not..

I think the more important question is - how many times is this damn thread going to be brought back from the dead?
this is twice now.

Once in Jul of '09, and now again yesterday.

Come on people - at least try to find a thread that hasn't already been brought back from the dead already.

I'm here for the gangbang....

i dont know where you got that number... and no, you cant make a mass purchase, because there are strict limits for each card.

the rule about not talking about proform is more focused on not telling everyone you get them, or that you got stuff from one, or whatever.. not so much talking about them period.

just so this thread can be done again, the answer to your question is that there is no standard discount.  it varies from company to company, and even product to product.

arawak420 question is related to the thread and also i remember an expert member or a staff member say it's OK to bump old threads if it is relevant or something to that extent.

Would you rather he/she make a new thread?

They'll either have a catalogue or website...prices are inside...and they shouldn't be easy to get if your not working in the industry

its usually a website, but there have been physical paper forms in the past, and you still have to call in for some of them.

theyre not that hard to get if you know people who are involved in the industry.  reps have also been kinda loose with them in the past, handing out a bunch, but things seem to have tightened up a little.

its also up to the company as far as how strict they want it to be and how "secret."  burton acts pretty ninja about it sometimes, but other companies like c3 (capita, union, coal) dont really care if you talk about it and they even have a public blog for superpro which is a part of proform, but they still only give them to shops and good friends who actually care about the gear.

Personally, yes. Now maybe i jumped the gun, but in fairness, arawaks second statement -

is a lot different than arawak's first statement.

how much are proform discounts on boards usually?

As spenser pointed out, there is no one answer to that question, but im sure Rome could tell arawak exactly how much he can expect. Also, just paying up to the etiquette of proforms, the people who have them know how much they get off. Because its such a hookup, out of respect for the companies, people tend to keep it on the hush hush. A lot of times people ask about them, in hope of maybe attaining one, or trying to buy one from somebody, or whatever. I said nobodys going to give him an answer to that question, (a) bc its not a straight across the board answer, and (b) because i assumed he didnt have one. Apologies for (b). Proforms are basically on a need to know basis, and i assumed that everybody who has one, knows what the discount is. . But like i said earlier, Rome can tell you how much to expect off.

again, the "dont talk about it" rule is more about not talking about the fact that YOU get/got stuff on proform, what it was, the prices, etc.  talking about proform in general is fine, like explaining to someone what it is, if they ask.  and there are plenty of people who dont get them that still know that.

besides, the joke rule is "first rule of proform is dont talk about proform," like fight club.. its not "there is no proform."
