I noticed we don't have an intro page?
Either way, I'd like to introduce myself that way when I start posting people aren't thinking: "Who's this dude? Why is he saying things?! Why do I care?!" My name's Ken, I'm currently living in Boston, MA. This is my first REAL season riding. I've been riding on and off with rental equipment and really bad winter clothing (if we can call it that) for two years prior (about 3 times total). Learned absolutely NOTHING in those 3 trips because I was too busy trying to stay warm and trying to just stand up on the snowboard... Now I'm skid-turning (I know, I'm still learning haha) and waddling my way down the slopes with confidence. I used to dream of being able to ride like everyone else and have fun. To be honest I didn't think I'd make it this far two years ago, I felt as though I'd be stuck sitting on my butt all day long or catching horrible horrible edges for the rest of my life!! At the beginning of this year I decided to buy my own gear and just man up and ride. In the end...all I needed was experience and confidence. I'd like to thank the Sierrasnowboard team for providing a great site that not only has a large selection of equipment but also affordable prices that allowed me to take my first steps onto the snow. Without you guys I'd probably still be snowboarding on blunt-edged rental boards and wearing poorly insulated windbreaker pants... Thank You Sierra...thank you . |

Hiyas! You pretty much did the same thing I did this season. I had only been boarding twice, but bought myself a pass and setup this year. I like your avatar!

By the way have you taken any classes on learning how to snowboard? From your description it sounds like you just jumped in and tried to teach yourself. If not, I highly recommend at least one class. It will help you get the basics down. I always recommend this to all new comers to boarding.
Just be patient, it takes practice and time to get good out there. Just go out and have fun. You'll be picking it up in now time! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Awesome introduction Ken. Welcome to the boards. You sound a bit like me-- came for the deals and stayed for the community. This site has some awesome deals, and great peeps. Just beware, because this little sport will soon become an addiction!
Oh, and my name is Ben. I live in CT, paint in my spare time, and snowboard when I can convince my wife to take both kids. My favorite color is Oxide of Chromium. :D |

Keep boarding man, you'll get the hang of it and start ripping it down the slopes.

My original image of this intro was to go like this:
Me: "Hi, my name is Ken...and I'm a board-a-holic." All: "Hi, Ken." Then I got carried away. Thanks for all the great welcomes and compliments! I can already tell this is going to be a great community, and judging by some of the comments, a pretty wacky one too haha. I think last Saturday was my....7th(?) time boarding this season, I've already lost count. An instructor would have been great my first time, I would have at least gotten the basics. I don't really have a problem turning and linking basic turns at speed at the moment, I DO have issues with jumps and hilly glades. Something I'd like to conquer soon. Right now I'm working on carves; can't seem to get the toe side to track without skidding, probably just need more speed... Can't wait for the next ride and thanks again!! |
