Being tipsy on the mountain just doesn't seem like the smartest idea to me.

I was talking to a guy who was pretty hungover up on the slopes, and after his first fall, he completely sobered up.  I guess faceplanting is a good hangover cure. LOL

I typically carry 2 flasks of Bourbon/whiskey with me when I ride. I definitely don't just slam them but I'll take sips on lift rides and back off it when I feel a little buzzed.

A couple of shots/beers always helps to loosen up a bit. Not enough to lose control though. I do the same thing as Phatman with the flask, but I only bring one and I'm usually sharing it with a buddy. I will leave the flask in the car if there's some green though,(tokus helps me focus)I won't mix the two on a mountain.

Alcohol and riding is a bad idea. It is ok to keep it green.

Keep in mind the legality too.  If you were to crash into someone and unfortunately end up hurting the person, depending on your state, it could be a legal issue.

Having said that, a beer at lunch I feel loosens me up and doesn't make me any more dangerous on the slopes.  So yeah, everything in moderation.

If that's a glass bong, that's probably a bad idea and wouldn't you be drawing too much attention to your self?  If you insinst on smoking on the chair lift, I would try to be more discreet.  Also, everclear is much stronger than regular liquor so be careful with how much you consume.

I keep mine in my cargo pockets on my pants. Might give me a bruise but wouldn't be able to get to my knee unless my pants were getting jerked down, and I don't see it breaking my femur

As far as legality, I'd be willing to wager I'm never legally drunk when I'm out riding, and I've never heard of a Drunk Riding law. So, it would fall back to the fact that if you hit somebody, whether you're drunk or not, if it's your fault you could be liable.

I've smoked before riding, but I feel like I forget how to snowboard when I do. Which is funny because I used to be a HUGE pothead, and I never used to surf without smoking.

Yeah, you are probably right.  I looked it up and couldn't find any specific laws, but there are incidences of charges for "gross negligence" and a case of "involuntary manslaughter", so it could just make it easier to convict.  Yeah, and so long as you are not "legally drunk" that would be a tough argument.

My buddy smokes every time he rides and wouldn't do otherwise.  I kind of agree that I'd feel like I'd forget how to ride and be too paranoid to enjoy the day.  But that's just me (and I too used to be a huge pothead!)

Not to mention, in most cases, the case will get thrown out on the grounds that there is an implied risk of getting hit by someone else on a slope.

Usually do some drinking while boarding.  Prices are pretty steep at the resort, so I usually bring a flask.  Nothing like a little whiskey to warm you up on the chair ride up the lift!

and also, my friends and i always are planning on doing a "king of the mountain" out cold style.  It's gonna happen one of these days...

Me too! i mean i feel if i smoke i wont be able to get on my toe side or something dumb. also i think i would freak out and bail when going fast. I used to smoke a lot so its nothing like that its just something id rather not try just in case i waste half a day trying to sober up/

I have done both before going out to the mountain.  usually it's a flask in my pocket and some random person riding my chair just asks if i'm down for blazin'.  I don't want to be rude so I agree to smoke.  Damn Boone, NC.

There was an article in Snowboarder a couple of months ago about smoke shacks in Colorado. They said they were so prevalent because there is a law against traveling on lifts while intoxicated, whatever it may be.

Smoke shacks, yeah.  Ask, the Rockies thread about those!  Had a friend who spent a Winter in Breck and according to him, they are everywhere...but you gotta know someone to find out where.

Yeah, they had pics of some sick ones. They were on cliff ledges, in trees, wherever. It got me thinking...

smoking a bowl on the lift or a lil joint does two things:

1)makes the ride way more stellar.
2)lessens the pain when you eat it.  Big smile

when its time to take a break from a sweet session, burn a lil, and when you head back to the lift you still have a good high going and helps ya relax your stance and feel one with the mountain. Sweet.
