Jindabyne is the place to go in Aussi. There are numerous ski resorts such as Thredbo, Perisher Blue, Selwyn Snowfields, Falls Creek, and Hotham. Out of all those I'd recommend Perisher Blue.

In the state of victoria, hotham is my favorite.

Avoid buller, its full of day tripping noobs, having said that they do put together a good park if your into that. Falls creek has the biggest jumps as far as i know, but my preference is the natural terrain and trees at Hotham.

if you do decide hotham and going with the family, check out accommodation at dinner plain, it has a real family friendly atmosphere and good value accomodation.

there is some good mountains in Victoria, Australia

Buller is alright if you want to ride some park and do a few runs i would spend one day there if money and time allows.

Hotham and Fall Creek are the go too's

I live in Australia by the way

+1.

I walked past an STA travel and they had a deal for Queenstown with a 4 day ski pass, 3 nights accommodation, car hire AND flights included for ~ $750 ex. Sydney (that's 750 total, all taxes included). 8 days/7 nights deal worked out to be ~ $1300.

Perisher and Thredbo are the way and by far the two best places in Aus. The only problem is if your traveling there it is difficult to get up to the mounatins from Jindabyne if you don't have a car. Also it is pretty easy to book it all yourself.......you could save some $$$$.

You need to provide reasons why you think they are best. You cant just go "Perisher and Thredbo are best, go there", because that is just strongly opinionated bullshit.

No resort in Australia is the "best". They are all very different from each other. Have you been to every resort in Australia?

Ease up Champ Smile

I have boarded the big 5 resorts + Selwyn.

Here are some of my reasons -
  • You can ski both of them from Jindy
  • Easy access roads unlike Vic resorts
  • With you being able to board 1 one day and the other the next there is so much varied terrian to board.
  • With the combined terrain of Perisher and Thredbo no one Vic resort could match that.
And the list could go onnnnnn

From the tone of your post though im sure your gonna have something to say on my opinions.

Yo, I live in Sydney and have ridden NSW resorts for a while now. Both Perisher and Thredbo are sick mountains..... i still love riding there even after snowboarding in Canada and the US. The one that's going to be better for you on the day will depend of snow conditions. If you did wanna ride park, then def hit up Perisher (Thredda's is ok, but Perishers parks are good) but seein that's not your thing Thredbo had some super cool terrain. Perisher is much bigger, and can hold snow in places better so if conditions are shite go there i'd say. North Perisher is the bomb, and the Far side of Mt P where Eyre is also good times.

Check out Ozsnow if u want a coach down there, but try score a lift off someone first. Theres a backpackers in Jindabyne and also in Thredbo for cheap accomm.

So keen for this season to start, i'll be in Buller yeeew.

Hotham is an awesome intermediate advanced mountain and my favourite terrain wise,
alothough buller is full of noobs they normally stick to the north side, southside is normally pretty empty in the right sports (apart from wombat) the chutes, fannys, sun valley and skiers right of powder keg over to thulkes (you can go furrther over but be prepared to hike) are pretty good intermediate advanced but there runs arnt as good as hothams, on the other hand bullers parks of better, In peak season you can expect buller to be more packed then hotham, Hotham gets better snow and more of it then falls,

I cant comment on falls havent ridden there but the jist ive gotten from that place is that it has awesome park and lots of it, It has shit terrain not much challenging or varied once again thats not what i think thats just what ive heard.

I would recommend hotham for terrain wise and amount of terrain, its set out easily unlike buller and is more boarder friendly, less flats and cat tracks arent as dodgey (apart from the extreme return cat track, lets not talk about that lol)

LOL Did you go for a swim?

Your right about Falls. Shit house terrain wise but has a ripper park on Ruined Castle.
The area around The Maze is their black section but you would get over it in like half a day.

Nah cant say i have gone for a swim though, its just annoying when you come out where theres no bridges and you gotta hike, then you have no speed and you gotta hike out.. which is gay.
umm we had a powder day and the cat track was covered so we had to hike out, not really fun...
one time i went way too fast and aired up off the bridge and landed in the bank, had to hike out...
i like to ride where people dont normally ride and in between runs ( steeper, more drops and better trees) and it allways brings you out in stuiped places...

majority of the time you can just ride out, but those 5 or 6 times i havent been able to, ive hated it.... haha hiking out is way worse then hiking to ride, at least you can see the pow and you have something too look foreward too.

in Australia, the great barrier reef, its not snow but its amazing, especially if you scuba dive it.
Also Mt Hotham has FREE cat skiing across to golden point, its good, kinda steep, untracked and trees, not the steepest terrain at the resort but good none the less, and for free!!

nah, it was free last season too.
they started making it free in the 2008 season
yes there is a catch. the catch is you need a valid lift ticket for that day, but seeing as the cat ride isnt very long, you still have all day to board, and at the bottom of golden point is the village chair, to get up you need a lift ticket.

If you are wanting runs, Hotham has alot of black runs, some shouldn't be classified as black runs but anyways they are all good, lots of natural jumps and good pow. Well last year it did. It has shit parks though. I think 2 fun boxes and 2 rails and thats it. If you are looking for an allround mountain with good runs and park, perisher is the way to go.

which runs shouldnt be classified as black?
apart from the canyon..
and obviously you where the at a shit time for park..
when i rode there the summit park was epic.. about 4 large kickers. 2 smaller ones. boarder cross track, a fair few rails, and then the rail park at swindlers was pretty epic.. about 8 rails.
also hotham has the steepest runs in aus

Well we're at 25cm at Hotham now with more to come over the next couple of days.
Another 20+ cms I reckon.
Should have a couple of lifts open this comming weekend.

Need the temps to remain cold over the next couple of weeks til  the next front moves in and all should be good.

I think  that if you do one day Perisher and one day Thredbo that will be great.
It will give you a good overview of what the aussie snow is like and they are both good mountains for different reasons.

Enjoy - let us know the dates closer in case one of us Aussies is around up there.

Well there has not been any snow falls for over a week now! BOOOO
Temps are warming up and snowmaking is kind of 'on hold'.
Next snowfalls not until (hopefully) next week.

If you go to Victoria, then Hotham is the pick. It has a good mix of everything there. The best snow in Australia i have had, has been there.

As for New South Wales. Perisher has twice as many runs as Thredbo, but Thredbo is twice as long.

I find that at perisher, you have to unclip alot more on your board. Its alot flatter, and doesnt link up as well. Has alot more cat tracks, and t-bars etc.

Thredbo has the highest lifted point in Australia. Also has the longest run by memory. The Village Trail is 5 Kilometers long (3.1 miles).

Thredbo has a better village feel too. Everything is all together. Lots of shops, bars, places for dinner etc etc.

My favourite would have to be Thredbo.
