Just wanted to say thank you to the entire SS community. I passed my AASI level II exam yesterday and one of the reasons were your great questions here in this forum about riding improvement. It really let me think about how I would break down certain movements such as carving, spins, etc. Very useful over 3 days of the exam.
I have not been riding that long, so for me, and over the hill thirtysomething to pass after only a few years of riding means I had help -- I want to include all of you in that ... so thanks. And thanks for SS for all the gear ... not that I needed it, but at these prices ... how could you not buy it. Also, if anyone is out there going for Level II or III let me know if you want to chat or perhaps even train for next season

it's 3 days and each day you get graded on pro knowledge, teaching (you do a 15 min segment), and your personal riding.
You have to pass each section no less than 2 times out of the 3 days. The riding stuff ... a lot of dynamic turning drills, bumps, steeps, trees ... sickest thing we had to do was Pain the S turns ... draw medium to long radius turn shape, then try make small s's all around the long original turn shape -- gotta get that downhill edge in the snow very quickly Freestyle stuff was just flatland 3's, linking toe to toe turns (linking fs180s so that you are on your toeside all the way down the hill) ... sickest thing were flatland cab 3's and some intro to jib/bonking and intro to pipe. Of course, Killington had 22 foot pipe so it wasn't like an intro intro, if you know what I mean. It was fun, mad hard, but fun ... rgilloway, you an instructor?

I started when I was 29 ... almost 30.
I'd recommend becoming an instructor for a year to anyone who loves riding. Even if you find it frustrating, you build a new appreciation for the sport. And it is awesome to give back. We need this sport to grow ... we need new people riding and new people exploring. Makes good things for all of us (better terrain, better parks, lower prices, etc.)

I gotta say, your attitude makes me want to unpack the board and go hit a mountain.
