Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Smith Challenger Otg Youth
  • Pros:  Durable, Cool lenses,
  • Cons:  Kinda boring,

Experience:   Smith is a good company but if u are going to pay top dollar for goggles why get smith unless u are getting the I/o's. When u can pay the same price for electric, spy, vonzipper, anon, and ashbury and they work better and look cooler. I'm not saying these are bad but there are better choices is all

  • Name: 2010 Nixon Rubber Player Watch - Men's
  • Pros:  Well its nixon, Stylish,
  • Cons:  little pricey,

Experience:   I have a time teller nixon watch and my friend has this one and he really likes it he has it in white but the band has been fading and for something that costs 150 dollars thats kind've dumb for that to happen. Other then that its a great watch and it'll match outfits which is cool you don't know how many people tell me how cool my watch is

  • Name: 2010 Gravis Crescent Womens
  • Pros:  Comfortable, Sturdy,
  • Cons:  Not the greatest,

Experience:   my friend has these and they are very comfortable but from what he has told me they have begun to fall apart and he might already have to get a brand new pair other then that they are amazing i would recommend them

  • Pros:  cheap, rides good,
  • Cons:  not the greatest,

Experience:   The board is really good but its not that great. Its so cheap and it rides pretty good but the edges aren't as great and my friends broke fairly quickly i would recommend this board for someone who is beginning boarding but not for someone who is deep into the sport

not-ewrx,

For the 2011 Graft, you said you rode that two season?  I don't see how that's possible.  If you have a specific year model of the Graft review that specific one.  Boards can change from year to year.  Same thing for 2011 Banana.

Put up the profile and the rest of the community can judge.  Usually if they have one bs review, the rest is pretty bs too.

"Great park board" 10/24/2010
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2011 Rome Graft
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Boxes,Halfpipe,Jumps,Rails
  • Pros:  Good park board, Durable, Jib freindly
  • Cons:  have to wax often. ,

Experience:   2year warranty and it will last that 2 years. I'm very hard on my boards. They usually don't last more than season. This board has made it through 2 seasons. I ride a 153 and i'm 5'-10 180. It kills in the park. It's more focused on jumps, but it can get jibby as well. It's really buttery. stiff tails makes it stable if your trying to stomp jumps. I can't belive the abuse this thing can take.

  • Cons:  Price , Weight,

Experience:   I've owned 2 of these board since the first year they where released. I love it to death. Everything about it is pure fun. It butters like no tomorrow. It's fast if you need it to be. It has tons of pop. It's just one of the best all around boards ever made. It's very durable. The warranty is excellent. The price is worth every penny. Nothing rides like a Lib.

Experience:   Pretty nice deck for 180$ Took it out to closing day at Brighton for some freeriding. It absorbed chop real good and flew off jumps well. Pretty stiff too which is something I want it a freeride board.

I don't know if this guy's review of the Burton Bullet tool is legit or not:
http://www.trusnow.com/profile.asp?PF=289392

I own the same tool (and posted a review for it), but the other review just doesn't make sense. Reads like he just looked at the picture of the tool and posted a review for it. If he owned the tool, he would have know the flathead does not stick out like that as shown in the picture.

Hahaha that's great -- in reality though, probably is a lot more helpful than what this person would actually write . . . .

I can't find those reviews on the product pages...do they get removed/hidden after flagging?

"Flag review" is kind of confusing. First of all you click it, and it just sorta reloads the page without giving you any feedback as to what it just did (i just tried it now, sorry to the random reviews that i tested this on). Flag as what? Spam? Awesomeness?

Also it's kind of rare to have a review that's not spam but still unhelpful..

Isn't it just answering "No" under "Helpful Review?"

Nice. At least now we wont be seeing reviews that only say 3 or 4 words.

It doesnt happen and would require MANY douches to do it. A veritable GUIDAI or douches if you will. It aint happening.

PS my spidey senses tingled at your comment so i went to see if youd been flagged, true enough. So some help for you on writing reviews:

1. Dont review products you dont own or havent used (at least to a reasonable degree - trying stuff on at the shop doesnt count as using it if im honest). ESPECIALLY don't make reviews on stuff you WANT. I appreciate you want it, but you want it from, i guess reviews. But if those reviews were also made by people wanting then we're creating a bit of a feedback loop. It's probably best to save the "I want this really a lot!" for the forums in truth.

2. The reviews section is a really important part of the BUSINESS side of sierra. What they want is for the customer to come in, read, and ABOVE ALL trust that those are legitimate viewpoints, (and not just some dude saying whatever they think will get them 3 points). The forums are much more community focussed so lots of stuff passes. Hence, stuff you review comes with more points if its legit, but its also expected to meet a higher standard of quality and information. It is therefore looked after with a lot more care in order that sierra can protect it as a crucial peer reviewed area of product information. People will therefore flag things at a much lower threshold than maybe they would in the forums. Make sure then that...

3. You provide details to someone reading who doesnt own the product and is thinking about buying it BUT CANNOT ACTUALLY HOLD THE PRODUCT OR TRY IT. Those details dont have to be positive if you dont feel its something you would recommend, they just have to help the guy making a purchasing decision to MAKE the purchasing decision (either to buy or not buy it). Thus, think what YOU would want to know if you were thinking about pressing a button on a product that you can't try. Do you like shopping for clothes and boots online? No? Neither does anyone. Things that look great in pictures dont necessarily look great on you. The more information that helps that guy or girl decide if its the right product for them, the better your review clearly is.

4. Which brings us to points. Points are sierra's way of saying thank you for you taking the time to write something that helps the other guy or girl out. if its not helping the other guy out and is entirely for you to boost your points, its gonna get flagged. for example, your other flagged review was, in truth, rather below the threshold of expectations (although it was certainly on the right lines). It was a bit scant on information and was probably flagged for doing the absolute bare minimum to get you 3 points. Which brings me to the last and most important point.

5. If you think theres not much worth saying about a product, it's arguably best that you avoid reviewing it. If you want to do a one line review, you take the chance that its getting flagged. And since all it takes is ten flags to lose the privilege forever you probably want to save it for moments when you feel you can talk about a product with authority. Also, you dont need to review everything you bought ever. Reviewing stickers for example is pretty daft, as is reviewing stomp pads and other small stuff. People on the site might let one or two of those pass, but if you happen to be churning out a few of those types of reviews, chances are theyll all get flagged.

Sorry if this post sounds all officious, but its just to help you realise where you might be going wrong and help you to avoid getting flagged and keeping those points next time :)

So in that regard:

6. Sierra WANT you reviewing stuff. It helps the customer to know as much as they can about the product without physically having to come to the store and play with it, and this helps the customer make a purchasing decision. As a member of the community, and precisely the kind of person that customers want to hear an opinion from (a peer who uses the product), this is great for everyone if you can voice that opinion. No one wants people cut off from gaining points through reviews. But just understand there is a higher level of detail required in the review section than on the forums is all. And since that higher level benefits you in giving you up to 20% in savings, its honestly worth taking the time to do it well :)

Hope this helps.

There needs to be 4 other flags or a flagging from an Expert Member Staff before it the review is pulled and the reviewer penalized. So one disgruntled person won't really affect a legitimate review.

I think that is the way it is setup now. No system is perfect, but do we really need "spam police" to get rid of reviews that someone claims to be insufficient? The points will motivate some to write more and better reviews while others will abuse the system. Hopefully the abusers are in the minority and that their reviews get filtered to the bottom.

As you said, no system is perfect.  However, I would rather have the bad reviews removed.  If I'm looking for a product and I chance to come upon this site and the only reviews on the site for that product is awesome, buy this! or something along those lines...I'm not going to trust the site since I'm going to think the reviews on here are crap.  Plus I've come across unhelpful reviews about products which is frustrating because you think you found useful information when it wasn't.

Plus I don't like clutter Big smile
Removing "bad reviews" causes problems because then it gets subjective and one could be removing information that is useful to some but not to others. I think for the most part, SS has a pretty strong community and we do get mostly solid reviews. If I am reviewing a product and it is loaded with reviews that essentially say "don't buy it" with not a lot of information then I would wonder about that purchase. However, many on this thread would have those reviews removed for lack of information. Those types of reviews could surely benefit by adding more details but it still expresses the opinion of the reviewer and does add value in some situations.

But it could go the other way can't it?  Someone could say don't buy it because they hate Burton, Rome, etc or the color.  Or they could just come across a product they have never touched, seen in real life and say don't buy it because they think the color is ugly (I've come across reviews like that).  What if there is only one of those reviews for the product you're looking at.  Now you'll wonder, is there something wrong with the quality or is it just an opinion the person has without knowledge of the product.  Same with the flow 24k bindings, people were writing reviews on those like don't buy simply because of the price without even seeing/touching the product.  How are those helpful at all?

That's why I think it's better to add more details so I know why.  You can say that is great or that is not great or buy or don't buy...but does it really give me info?  Not really.

I don't disagree that more details are better and I don't disagree that some reviews are junk! I am just saying that we shouldn't have people policing which reviews they deem to be "useful" or "real" or whatever. I say keep all the reviews and let the potential customer determine which reviews they feel are sincere and/or give them the information they want to help with their purchasing decison.

Many companies have professional, paid, bloggers who are paid to post glowing, long detailed reviews about their products. I would state that these reviews are much more vile (because they are trying to sway your purchase pretending to be an unbiased member of the community) than someone stating not to buy something because it it too costly. The fake glowing review would not be counted as spam but the "don't buy it" review would be eliminated.
