yeah I hear that but where I live (Ventura, CA) the surf season is in the winter as well...now I as April winds down I will have to wait for occasional swell and for the fall to bring waves again.  Such a bummer that snow and surf have to compete in the same season.

Anyone have any great spots to surf outside the US?

don't think I've ever seen waves worse than that in a WCT event...yeah, I've seen smaller, but today was pure onshore wind chop.  Was interesting to see how the top pros handle stuff like that and a few of them actually got a couple long rides (hobgood)...some caught absolutely nothing their whole heat (wilkinson)

At least it was better yesterday. Some great waves, but still a few people got dud heats wave wise.

Toledo's 10 was CRAZY. Huge alley oop to air reverse, just nuts. Kelly got some sick barrels too.

Has anyone had a chance to try any of libtech's surf boards? I was looking into getting one but I was hoping someone had some insight.

Didn't even know about them. Just had a look, some cool looking tech there. The bowl series is pretty interesting. Also would like to hear some first hand experience.

some fun surf yesterday at Ventura harbor...no one out but me and my buddy...felt like a winter swell with the energy behind it.  rode my fish and I am making the transition from long boarding to short boarding.  So much fun and the power of this wave compared to where I normally ride at Ventura point was stark.

^^Never ridden a firewire. How are you finding it compared to normal PE boards?

Hope everyone caught Slaters performance at Fiji, outrageous surfing. His first wave of the final will be burned into my memory for a while...

Big congrats to Ace for beating Slats in the final at Chopes. Didn't get as big as we like to see, but still some insane barrels, and even a few rights!

Flat day here, might do the same. Have not taken the SUP out for a while. Actually does wonders for my back after sitting at a desk all week...

A SURFING THREAD!!! Just started surfing as a fix for lack of snowboarding in the summer. Gotta admit it's been pretty amazing. The feeling of being on the ocean that's constantly rising and falling is something completely different than on top of a mountain. Just wanted to share the excitement!

I just got back from my first ever trip to Bali and it was awesome! I can highly recommend it to any level surfer: Bali really has everything to offer and is amazingly affordable. I am pretty much still a beginner: could catch everything white on a soft top starting out at the beginning of my 3 week vacation and was able to surf 2x a day nearly every day and can catch up to shoulder high greenish-white ones on a 7'5" hybrid every now and then already. Its really amazing what a few weeks at a time can do for your understanding of what is going on in the ocean and what youre doing wrong to help you improve. Dreaming of going back again hopefully sooner than later Thumbs Up

Yep, pretty much a playground for Aussie surfers.

Julian Wilson launched a couple of sick air reverses today in rd 4. Ripping.

I surfed a few times in Oregon and first off the water is freezing but bearable in a wet suit. I went on bigger wave days and it was hard to stand up. I skateboarded for 6 years and snowboard for 3 and it was still difficult. You also get super tired fighting through the waves.

It's a lot of fun though!!! Especially when you catch your first wave.

For snowboarding or skating... you can attempt to do them immediate. Take a lift up a mtn or just hop on a skateboard. The issue with surfing is that you cant just stand on a wave when you want. You have to paddle out through the waves (not easy), sit on the board (not easy), look for sets to come in (harder) and be at the right position to start paddling for the wave (hardest) AND after all that, then you can being to attempt to surf (not easy). LOL. So it's definitely harder in my opinion than boarding or skating because of all these things you need to accomplish before attempting to surf. But yeah, its really fun and challenging. Its just nice to have something to do in the summer now.

definitely harder.  Not only do you have to paddle back out through the waves after every ride, but you have to compete with other people for waves (assuming you don't live in an isolated area).

Excluding the huge learning curve involved with even beginner surfing, it's kinda like snowboarding without a lift and, once you trudge to the top, competing to be the only one to ride back down (if you fall, you immediately have to hike back up to the top and start the competitive process all over)

may seem like a lot of hassle...and it is, but the feeling you get when you've earned that wave and rip it all the way to the beach is one of the best feelings on earth (not as good as sex, but slightly better than snowboarding...that good)

I doubt I'll ever going surfing, I suck at swimming and don't have the right body type for the sport. But I want to at least experience surfing at night with all those glow in the dark thingies in the sea.

Sad day last week as I sold my only surfboard. Goodbye my love! Hope your new owner has as many wonderful times as I did.

On the good side, I'm off to Colorado where the beer flows like wine!

It is harder than snowboarding imo, but still very manageable. hardest part is simply standing up. go out a few times on a longboard and youll learn easily. then the hardest part is paddling, simply cause im lazy
