Totally new to the halfpipe, took my first three runs ever on the one at Timberline. Anyways, I was wondering if you did a 360, would you land switch?

Yes. Unless you took off switch. In which case you would land regularly.

360 is a complete spin. you should get back at the position where you started your movement if you did a correct 360.

true, but in pipe you land switch/fakie, and on a straight jump you land regular.  so..... as far as taking off, you wont always ride away in the same direction just because its a 360.

haa no spens i don't consider you an ass especially since you at least came back and posted some advice. i just got confused because it's not on flat ground like skate pipes are. i imagine that if you didn't just head straight up the wall and rather took off at an angle that you can still land regular, but it wouldn't look like a 180, or at least wouldn't count as a rotation... if that makes any sense.

hmm pipe is a bit wierd, like for example the same trick is called different things on different sides, And indy on the backside wall is called an indy (you take of regular and land regular) but on the frontside wall its a frontside air (you take of regular and land regular)
with that in mind with 3's in the pipe you land the same way as you took off.

what spenser was thinking of is if you hit the pipe or quarter straight on, meaning you go straight up and down, but with pipe, your going downhill, so a straight air is landing same way as take off

what spenser was thinking of is if you hit the pipe or quarter straight on, meaning you go straight up and down, but with pipe, your going downhill, so a straight air is landing same way as take off

a frontside air is a frontside air, and a backside air is a backside air.  the indy has nothing to do with it, its just the usual grab, because its super basic and thats just how it is.  the tricks arent different depending on the wall, except when it comes to alleyoop, but thats the only variance, and thats only a name anyway, its not technically done different.  other than that, its still frontside/backside and grabs and everything are the same.

there is no such thing as a straight air in pipe.. you either do a 180 (frontside air or backside air, depending on the wall)or an air to fakie.. you cant just go straight anyway.  if you take off regular and land regular, you turned a little bit.  technically it would be called a 180, but since you dont hit the pipe wall perfectly straight since its downhil, the "180" is hardly a 180 so they dont bother.. and "frontside air" technically implies a frontside 180 (the "sort of" 180, anyway).  and going by your same logic of what a "straight air" is (which means you didnt spin), then a 360 in pipe would just be called a 180, 540 a 360, and so on.  go watch a 900 in pipe.. by your logic (based on the straight air thing), those would only be 720s.

and no, you dont land the same way on the 360 in pipe. you take off riding regular, and you land riding switch.  that only applies to riding pipe or quarterpipes, because on a regular jump with a 360, you take of regular and land regular.  unless you mean you take off with your nose pointing up and land with your nose pointing up, regardless of the way youre actually sliding.  in that case.... thats a 3, right?  so one less would be a 180... but then that would be what you called a straight air, which means you didnt spin.  so 360 minus 180 = zero?

dont pay attention to the fact that its downhill, spinning is still regarded the same as it is if youre riding a straight-on quarterpipe, or like a halfpipe in skating.  frontside airs are still frontside airs regardless of hitting them straight on for a full 180 or hitting at an angle and not having to spin as much.  its still a 180, but its just called a frontside or backside air.. thats just how it is.

Pipe is a little bit like cheating because a frontside air is technically a 180.

Pipe is also the hardest discipline in snowboarding in my opinion

perhaps you forgot some of the stuff guys like jeremy jones rides.  theres no way pipe is harder than that.

but its all relative, and its all different anyway.

^^ yeh true. Also i think hitting a 70foot kicker and landing into 2 feet of fresh while spinning a switch front 7 landing blind would be harder then pipe.
Sure it would be hard, but i think it would be fairly easy to progress rapidly in.

he was kidding, thats what the blunt smiley thing was about

that common mistake is funny though, like the dude who reviewed the rossignol jeremy jones as if it was burtons JJ and he thought he had two board sponsors.
