Probably. Less pollution out on the open waters.

Here's some perspective : http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/03/11/hawaii-boat-tsunami-debris/1976281/

Pollution in general is usually buffered by our oceans and species living in them usually have the capacity to metabolize toxins out.  But...

I say enjoy that pier caught fish _ give it an extra minute in the frier Wink

Slow night crabbing last night. I think SOMEONE caught all the legal sized crabs. I only pulled 3 and they were all too small. Tossed em back.

^Whoever it was, it wasn't me solocreep. I've only been pulling up teens and softer shell girls. So many are short by 1/8 inch or less, but close doesn't count to fish and game. Last Sat, we fished for 9 hrs, and only caught 5 keepers between my friend and me. We'll be at the pier early Sun morning if you want to come fish with us. Just look for my white OSH bucket with a big orange Jagermeister sticker on it. I'll be the guy who's drunk way too early in the morning. Well, one of the guys who's drunk too early. The pier is a strange place.

Julius I picked the canoe up from CL it was in grass valley. just keep your eyes out I was looking a john boat but unless I got like a 14 footer the price and ease of use wasn't really justified since I can fir as many people in my 16ft canoe that only weighs 65 pounds. the canoe I got has a square stern too so I can put a trolling motor on it which I might 30 pound motors are only a little over 100$
I plan to use the canoe to hit up lake natoma and folsom and rollins for bass fishing, maybe a few others.

^That sounds like you got an amazing deal. Super light, too. About 100 pounds with a motor. I'm guessing we'll see more pics from you as the summer fishing begins.
Solocreep- the fishing on Sunday was nuts. Big males were coming up everywhere. We left at 11, but they were still hitting like crazy, especially at the points. We didn't hit limits, but
I had to get some studying time in so we left good fishing.

let me know if u pick up snare fron the bottom of the ocean. I think a crab pinched my line cuz I casted out and that thing went flying. worst part, that was like my best cast ever with a snare.

My dad and I are hopefully going to get to take my niece and nefew out to a little private pond this weekend.  We're told there are 11 inch Rainbows lurking in the waters there, and multitudes of Brookies.  Pretty stoked.

The high mountain lakes and streams  I usually fish are pretty much iced over still.  Been a wierd year so far, but it's probably because i'm just ancy to get out there.

I got Tues, Wed, and Thurs off of work next week. Gotta check with the wife, but I want to rent a place with my fishing buddies and stay out in Pacifica a few days to see if we can catch our limits for a few days. Stay out on the pier for as long as we want to.
Solocreep- see if you can come out! If there's a good chance you can, I'll PM you my cell and we can meet up and try to get that lost trap back! Smile

They've been coming up big lately. The males tend to have more meat and taste sweeter. People have been catching big red rock crab as well. Over 7 inches across the shell. With those, I have to zip tie their claws to their bodies or they fight with the dungies and win; leaving the dungies with legs cut off. Angry

Fishing has been a real bust for me at the urban lake went on a memorial day weekend because they had special rates for this summer season , couldn't say no to that ,rent a small motor boat and caught absolutely shit and supposedly they claim to be the most stock lake in southern california HAHA with over 7 species of fish.Me and a buddy of mine were using fresh salmon, spoons, scallops and power baits ain't no freaking nibble in a 4 hour period.

You need to get a hold of Julius' Beefstick, he reels in a lot with it.

I hope were talking about a secret fish bait recipe, though I'm intrigued if he knows any tips on how to reel in the big ones.

I fish in the ocean, but that's not the point hah.  I didn't mean it as a criticism, it's just very foreign to me I guess.  but like I've said before, I think all fishing is rad, whether you're in 30 foot seas in the middle of the ocean or jigging in a man-made lake.  gotta love it all.  I would honestly love to do that, or at least midwest lake fishing.

You should try going to Prado or Salten Sea.  My bros and their friends found some other fishing sites but you gotta sneak in, but the fish be biting!  LOL

Never herd of Prado will google it later and Salton Sea is a dump which is just filled with tilapia and contaminated with agricultural runoff.I have tried sneaking into a private golf club once and fish out of their small lakes but was caught by a patron who told the manager ,escorted off and banned.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Salton Sea either, their fish taste nasty.  I think Prado is in Corona.  When it comes to sneaking around, you're suppose to do it at night when no one is around to catch you.  LOL

Yes I do. And I shall continue to use my beefstick to bring up the bounty provided by the ocean. 3 day crab fishing trip starts tomorrow, and my wife's coming with me for the first day. I hope she brings good luck.

fishing is slowly starting to pick up here.  it's a super slow year for kings.. low numbers.. but around now is when it starts to get going.  when we went out a couple days ago, there was a guy at the dock when we launched who had caught a fat king, and then we saw a couple caught while we were trolling, all nice sizes.  been seeing photos here and there on facebook of some real nice looking kings as well, so hopefully I bring one in soon.

really need to go butt fishing too.  halibut fishing is my favorite.. anchor up, drop a line, and sit back with a beer and wait.  as for crab/shrimp, still thinking about it.. might borrow one of my dad's shrimp pots as they're pretty light and smaller than crab pots.  I don't have a pot puller arm on my boat, so bringing them up is a pain in the balls.

as far as what I've actually caught so far... a couple cod and an arrowtooth (looks like a halibut).  tossed 'em all back, although I should have kept the cod for my dad for crab bait.

I was golfing a few years ago and on the course are a few ponds. way deep in the course I see at a tiny pond there were a few people of Spanish descent fishing in there with just line and hooks. (I guess bait too). Weird thing was that it would be really hard to get there without having to go across most of the golf course. Maybe they worked there and were taking a break. I wonder if they caught anything....

Question for you fish experts:
I'm in NY and it's supposed to rain Friday night/Sat morning.
I was thinking of going fishing Saurday morning.
Is the rain going to be bad or good or it won't matter?
I tried googling, but got mixed reviews depending on what type of fishing you will be doing etc...
I am most likely going fluke fishing.

trolled for an hour or so in auke bay, again to no avail.  it was nice out though, and we got phantom (Lynzey's dog) out on a boat for the first time, and he was a natural.

Yeah, but you made friends! This is from last Tuesday. I caught 6 during high tide, then it dropped off. My buddy caught the other 2. Overall, the trip was a success. We didn't catch our limits, but we got close and had a great time!
I got to fish with Solocreep for a few hours, too. Lot's of slow but steady action. So much crab and a lot of meaty sweet tasting males.

finally, got my first king of the year.  36" fatty!  jerms caught a nice 28" too.  the smaller fish is a dolly, which came within a couple minutes.  not as exciting as the kings, hah...

for dinner we had lemon baked salmon over pesto pasta... so damn good. I could eat this stuff every day for the rest of my life, and I will most of the summer... I have four huge chunks in the fridge.  that thing was fat.

awesome, I love it.  it's a great little skiff.. small enough to trailer easily with my subaru and to deal with overall, but it's big enough to work well in the ocean.  every time I go out it's like the first time being stoked about finally having my own.

Seems like a good size boat then, one of my bro bought a boat that was too big for a trailer so he had to dock it at a pier for 350 a month until he sold it a year later and he probably only used the boat like 3 times.
Sessions sucks hairy monkey balls, the end.

it's just an 18ft lund... small and easy, but once you hit 18ft and up, the seaworthy-ness goes up a lot and it actually does pretty well in a few foot seas, although you have to be extra careful and manage your speed well depending on the specific configuration of waves.  it's perfect for me, considering my car, how often I like to go out (often), and where I like to go (relatively close, but still well out of the main bays and harbor areas.  one day I'll inherit my dad's boat (the 28ft aluminum pictured below) but that shit is expensive to operate and maintain.  B.O.A.T. = break out another thousand $$$$

we do have black cod, but it's most common to see regular cod.  black cod is not actually a species of cod as far as I know, that name is just used for the resemblance I guess.  anyway, we catch cod pretty regularly, which is annoying when you're trying to catch salmon haha.  they're pretty good eating though, considering.

anyway, check out the meat!  hard to get a real idea of how much there is... the fillets are pretty thick too, about 2" in the main part at least.  that thing was a honker.  the left two are the front half, and the other two are the tail end.  the bottom right bag also has the bellystrips, which are soooooooooo good.  I don't have a smoker right now, but that's where my dad comes in haha.  if I bring him fish for himself, he'll hook it up and smoke some for me.  he has worked for fish & game for over 30 years, and they had a friendly smoked salmon competition in his building a few years ago.. he won hands down, and one of the alaska native people he works with told him it was better than his people make it, hah.

and I don't really like this picture.. I look like a 12 year old with a scumstache... but for some size reference.  I need to catch another one.
