It was mono. I think he said 100lbs line and they did it from a bass boat. I think that increased the chance of catching something big in the deep water.

Pics of the spooner my friend caught. Makes me so jealous that I decided not to go with him. This is a pic of his father in law. For some reason I can't upload his picture. But his fish was equally big. In Warsaw, near the Ozarks

Went spear fishin over the weekend while skin diving. It was my first time. I didnt know there were so many rules regarding fish size and what you can catch. Thankfully all i caught was a measely perch so it didnt have any size restrictions. But it was pregnant and full of babies we fried up with an egg.

He bought a $200 rod (which i forgot the brand name) and used 100lbs line to catch that fish. It was a 3 day weekend trip and they caught two big ones the first day! If weather permits, Imma go with them this weekend just to chill--catching a fish or two is a bonus.

you might be out of ice homeslice... on a separate note, went out and floated about 11 miles on Tuesday (sick day coughcough*) and killed it on dry flies!  Skwalas were swarming and the trout were crushing them.  Super fun day.. took the gopro along and got a little footage that I'm attempting to pull together.. we'll see if that actually happens though as I always seem to say I'm going to finish an edit... wish me luck!  Pics coming soon and hopefully video!

Went crab fishing last night in Pacifica. Caught one Dungy, but it was only 4 inches, so we had to throw him back. Then, we made the mistake of switching the chicken bait for fish and a seal took off with the entire bait cage. Bastard. I'm going to get another bait cage and try again this weekend.

If it gets higher than 60 degrees tomorrow I think imma pull out my fishing gear and head to the lake for some relaxation. If it gets really nice, i'll join my friend for some spooner fishing. Hope it's nice and sunny.

went fishing the other night, me and a friend was hunting down the perfect sweet spot at a private lake called SARL(santa ana river lakes) off the 91 freeway..it's a nice quiet little remote area just north east from Disneyland. did some light angling for about 4 hours with no luck on the main big lake and decided to try the catfish lake ,just 30 mins prior to closing caught 2 channel catfish just off from the pump house,we were hoping to catch rainbow trout but we're still working out the kinks in using a effective bait. If anyone hear knows of a really good baiting recipe any tips would be greatly appreciated.

still working through the vid... stupid final cut express and its rendering... anyway the ol father-in-law scored us an old school avon redshank raft and frame.  We have one tiny hole that we've found so far that needs to be patched and she should be good to go.  so stoked to be able to float more regularly rather than wade fishing.. watch out trout!

Caught 2 keepers in Pacifica this past Saturday. Red crabs with delicious claws. Pulled up 4 Dungies earlier on in the day, but they were all too small to keep.

We caught a cooler full of crabs in Port Arthur while visiting one year and cooked them on the spot. Best crabs ever! and they were huge too! Crabbing license per day was $16 Cry (that's 1 year of fishing license here) We did noticed a couple of crocs roaming the area...first time seeing one that close and on salt water too!

You don't need a license if you are on a municipal/public fishing pier. For all other crabbing/fishing, you would need to have a license. Don't get caught dude, the fines are huge and not worth it at all. All other rules apply in the pier (size, bag limits, etc).

Thanks beachbum! We went again last night, but only caught one keeper. He was a little smaller and was missing a couple legs, but was tasty. We cooked him right when we got back.

Yeah the fines are huge so if you do decide to go crabbing check with your local authorized fishing store and they'll let you know if you need a license or not. My bro in law's friend got fined $2500 for a bucket of crabs without a license. When it comes to hunting/fishing the park and state patrol dont play around. I've never heard of a story where the patrol let you off for catching fish too small, too much, or without a license.

Went out yesterday night to the local lake to fish for some crappies. Caught about 15 10-14inchers. Was really temped to cook them on the spot but the new law prohibits open fire unless you have a grill. Cry So we settled for some Churches chicken instead. LOL

EDIT: Breeding season is the best time to catch fish without having to wait a long time for a bite. And there's no annoying jet skier around to annoy the crap out of you while you're trying to fish. :)

Yup. Some one had a pier gaff but the beast kept fighting. It finally worked its way to the net. 2 big guy had to bring it in. Pics came out dark tho. But that thing barely fit in there.

I love catfish! cooked some last night! Their meat are so delish.
Trout is good too, with super soft bones and tasty meat. imo I think trout are easier to catch because they don't resist as much as catfish.

I love catfish but after so many times of catching them,it gets boring..they taste great fried in batter with seasoning flour but taste a little plain when it's on the pan,Trout is more tasty but put up more of a fight than catfish because most of them are bottom and scavenger feeders while the trout takes a little more effort using right technique/lure & weather /water conditions.

Agree on that but it's harder than it looks to catch it in the wild and once I learn how to use my baitcast reel I'm going to do some real fishing in NorCal.

^^ That's a good point. I've never caught any in the wild. Sounds fun! I'll put it in the calendar for next Jan-Feb trip. So i'm used to using powerbait to catch trout, what's good for catching wild trout?

where are you guys fishing that you are catching stuff "not in the wild"?  A trout is not hard to catch.. you just need to know the proper tackle or fly to use.. depending on your method.  Worms always work well in lakes as well.  As far as good tasting wild fish... trout are pretty good..but its tough to beat salmon or halibut in my opinion... not that we have halibut around here.. but its absolutely delicious!  I'm definitely jealous of spenser's locale when it comes to fishing.

Bring on the Kings!

*disclaimer: not my pic..found on google.. but you get the idea
MOAR powderz plz!

You don't need a license if you are on a municipal/public fishing pier. For all other crabbing/fishing, you would need to have a license. Don't get caught dude, the fines are huge and not worth it at all. All other rules apply in the pier (size, bag limits, etc).

Yup, public piers do not require a license...you can read the FAQ here:
