It is rumored that Odom is inching closer to signing with the heats if the lakers don't offer him more money.  The Heats are able to give him a 5 year 34 million dollars while he initially did not respond to the lakers previous offers of a 3 year 30 million or a 4 year 36 million deal.  He thinking long and hard because in Florida there is no states tax while California has one of the highest.

too bad, Odom should just sign with Miami if he actually thinks Lakers didn't offer enough. Just because Toronto overpaid Turk doesn't mean Odom will get the same.

Story on Ed O'Bannon and how he ended up a car salesman.  At least he seems at peace with where his NBA career went.

It's good to see he didn't end up like so many players that haven't panned out and ended up broke.  It mentioned that he actually saved up some of his money, and doesn't need to work as a car salesman for the money.

Still have no idea why the Hornets have been trying so hard to get rid of him.  His foot was hurt all year, he played on one leg.  He just needed rest.  They are going to regret that one.  Okafor is nowhere near the pick and roll player that Chandler is, not as big, athletic etc.  He is a slightly better scorer.  But he has three more years on his contract paying him way too much money and Chandler only has one.

Maybe its just me.  Never been a big Okafor fan.

Drew Gooden signed in Dallas, who is also rumored to be after Tim Thomas.  Bunch of little trades here and there.

The article on ESPN said that basically both teams made the trade for financial reasons.

Not both teams.

Hornets just took on a player who has three years and 40+ million remaining on his contract.  Okafor just signed an extension two seasons ago.  Not really any better of a player IMHO.

Chandlers contract is up after next season.  So the Hornets just took on a ton of salary and messed with their chemistry in the process.  They probably could have got Chandler back for 7-8 million after his contract expired.

The article said that okafor is to make 1.3 million less this season which saves the hornets 1.3 million in luxury tax payments.

if Odom is following the $$$$, then he should definitely sign w/ the Heat.  he screwed up big time by passing up on Buss's more than reasonable offers.

Oh, I get it.  Bu they still just took on over 40 million in contract that they won't be able to move for several years.  Seems a dumb thing to do to save 1.3 million now, they must really be broke.

Hornets have been trying to move Chandler for a while.  I wonder if his foot is a lot worse than they are trying to say it is?  I just don't buy it though.

Okafor can score a little better on his own. Chandler will never provide his own offense.  But still an odd move

Okafor did average a double double last season so he is a pretty good player.  Just curious how it will work out because he doesn't seem near as athletic as Chandler.  Paul throwing alley oops to Chandler was the best reason to watch the hornets.

I'm not saying he is a bad player.  He just doesn't fit in with Paul very well.  He will get you the same numbers, but the way he does it is totally different and doesn't fit in with Paul's frantic run around and create an opening for everyone mentality.

Okafor would be better with a slower paced team IMHO.

I really wonder what happened to peja.  He just dropped off the face of the planet last year.  That was more their issue than anything else.

I agree with Chandler being a better fit over Okafur...but I still think it'll be interesting to see how it turns out for the Hornets.  I think they had to do something though, because I don't see them competing with the team they had.

But it looks like the Hornets just really wanted to move Chandler.

Is Stephon Marbury trying to make absolutely sure he never plays int he NBA again?  Have you guys seen his 24 hour live video blog?  Between crying, saying he hates the NBA, then saying he loves it, threatening to move to Greece and generally behaving like  a crackhead.  I honestly thought I was watching a rerun of the Bobby and Whitney show or something.  Dude has lost his damn mind.

Someone on ESPN brought up a good point.  The Grizzlies weren't willing to pay Paul Gasol, but they have no problem acquiring Zack Randolph in a trade?  Not only that, they were offered Boozer but picked Randolph because they thought Boozer wouldn't like the city.  He is coming from utah, who is he to complain about living in another city?  Its not like he was coming from NY or something.

Suns won't make the playoffs this year either.  Entertaining team for sure, but not a threat to win much anymore.

I have not heard a definitive announcement.  What I have heard is that the lakers only offer now is 3 years 25-27 million and thats it.  He wants more years.

Miami is offering 4 or 5 years with the final year being an opt out year for Odom.  But its only at the mid-level exception.  The problem that Odom is wrestling with is his skills will likely be in serious decline around 34 or so and he is basing his worth on what Hedo got and thinks he should get a 50 million dollar contract.

Had he signed early in the off-season, he could probalby have got that from someone.  But since nobody has any money left, he is jammed into a corner.

Odom is in 4 yr 33 mil with team buyout on the 4th year. He cost himself a possible 3 mil by not taking the initial offer.

Lakers. total 4 year 33 mil.
Guaranteed 25 mil for 3 years. Team option for the 4th year, but if team declines 4th year, Odom gets 2 mil buy out. So technically the deal guarantees 27 million.

He actually took a slight paycut from the initial offer. His heart is really in LA, even though he could start elsewhere like Miami.

It's about time Odom, now fire you agent because you were offered 3 years 30 million or a 4 year 36 million dollar and he told you not to take it.

I thought Odom had already signed a week ago...

But I just read that Bruce Bowen was released, he's older but he could still help out a team.  I wouldn't mind if he went to Miami...but for some reason i see him going to where all the older players go, Boston.
