not necessarily, it depends on your goals.  If all you want to stay fit and healthy, then you're right.

The gym also provides lots of variety. You'll eventually hit a plateau doing the same old routine.  Also doing the same old routine could get kind of boring.

running isnt the only form of cardio, not to mention its hard on your body. swimming would be another option for cardio, rowing, biking, skipping... a lot of people hate running. look for other options.

How often do you play basketball?
IMO bball is great cardio. Especially if you play multiple times a week.

If you are a member of a gym and want a really good cardio workout take a spin class.  You will burn ~1000 calories in an hour.  I just stepped it up to 2 of these a week and I am noticing a difference already.

Another great class if you have a gym membership is Boot Camp.  I thought I was in great shape until I took that class.  This class is a mixture of cardio and resistance training and is a great way to shed some body fat.

It consists of riding a stationary bike for an hour while the instructor tries to kill you (maybe it just seems that way lol)  You simulate sprints, and climbs and all kinds of fun stuff that people do on bikes.  For instance yesterdays class consisted of like a 5 minute warm up then a 16 minute climb where you are standing up the whole time and gradually increasing resistacne while trying to maintain pace.  We then sat for a while and did some 30/30 sec sprints and rests, there was another 10 minute climb, and all kinds of other stuff.  It kicks your ass.  You generally lose about 2lbs just from the class in water weight due to how much you sweat.

yeah spin classes are no joke. i applaud everybody in em, bc those instructors are seriously insane. They're like drill sergeants on crack, i have no idea how they keep that much energy.

I did a spin class a few days ago. It was definitely intense. I know the gym I started at does a boot camp thing, too. Really early in the am. Maybe I'll suck it up and sign up for that.

I skipped the gym today, its not a day I usually go but since I was busy yesterday I didn't go, and it was probably closed since it was Canada day.
I was too tired tonight...

The P90X def works.  I haven't used it, but i have a friend who just did the workout and not the nutrition part with it and lost 30 lbs in the 90 days.  All you need is dumbells and a pull-up bar.  If you don't wanna pay for the program, you can download all of the dvd's from torrent.  Also the workout is done at home for an hour a day.  Some days is actually working out, other days its like all stretching or yoga or something like that

its much like a crew or rowing with lots more people. it originally started in china years ago and had the boats decorated with dragon heads, hence the name

yeah, dragonboating is like crew, but it's with paddles instead of oars.  imagine a giant canoe with >20 people in it with two people per row.  it's super intense and i absolutely love it.  and it's great to be out on the river on a hot day.

Missed the gym AGAIN, this is a bad week.
I have a headache, possibly a migraine. I dunno.
My plans took a sudden change from me going to the gym, to me having this headache for 9 hours and going to a dinner.

I had a headache too, yesterday...from 4 when I went on break for an hour til the rest of the night at work. =0(

I really want to run today before it gets too hot, but I don't want to run alone and I think my roommate is working the farmer's market on the square (outside our apartment).

"rest" week coming up for my p90x schedule.

Hoping i stick with it.  When i needed a break from weightlifting, I usually got lazy and end up taking a longer break than I intended.

my friend has been on p90x for a few months now and he follows it 100% through

hes lost tons of weight and is in crazy shape

also running isnt always a great option for cardio even if you don't mind it.  sprinting is actually said to be better than jogging
my mom says im hardcore

I just run... a lot.

If you want to save your knees, stay off the sidewalks.  Run in grass, on streets (asphalt is much easier on your legs than concrete, believe it or not), or on a track.  Also, make sure your shoes aren't too old.  Once you get ~500-600 miles on a pair of shoes, it's time to think about replacing them.  Also, it's worth shelling out a little extra money on a good pair of shoes.  You may not feel a difference trying them on, but over time, your legs will start to notice when you have cheap shoes.

Its pretty good especially since you don't need much and can do it at home.  Also its pretty structured, so it keeps you on track which is a problem most people have when they start working out.

If you're looking to get muscular this probably isn't the way to go.  It's pretty much circuit training, which is meant to get you lean and cut.
