Mike Says: Who saw the movie First Descent? In the entire movie Terje Haakonson, a world-clas* professional snowboarder, rode the Malolo. The Burton Malolo is the ultimate powder board because its shape is aggressively tapered, which allows for superior floatation in the deepest snow. We recommend the Malolo for experienced riders who feel confident riding in deep snow far away from groomed runs. The Malolo is unique because it allows riders to ride deep powder with the ease of a groomed run. Ride this board if you have never ridden it. Borrow your friends, buy one or go demo it. Everyone should ride this board once. Once you ride it, you will become a believer.

Donald Says:I second that. If you speak Hawaiian, you could translate the word Malolo into "Flying Fish," which is the definition of this snowboard. The Malolo swims through powder just like a fish and flies down the mountain at the highest speeds. The "Flying Fish" is a must have for any backcountry adventurer or someone who wants to take on some gnar pow.

I rode the Burton malolo 154 snowboard all last season... if you're an all mountain/freeride/powder rider then i highly recommend the malolo.

The Malolo has a unique, tapered shape designed specifically for riding in deep powder. The larger nose keep you floating in the powder, and the pin tail cuts through the powder, so you don't have put much pressure on you back quads. (yes, your legs won't be burning at the bottom).  The pin tail allows you to turn on a dime in a foot of snow, this has seriously saved me many a times while tree riding... the biggest surprise was how well the Burton malolo snowboard carves on the groomers.  Super stable at high speeds, holds an edge just like a custom x!... if you are an all mountain/freeride/powder rider, then i highly recommend that you buy the Burton malolo snowboard 154, 158, 162 or 166 ( i normally ride a 157-161 in the powder, and was able to size down to a 154 malolo due to the extra surface area on the large nose)

Biggest Question: Do I get a Fish or a Malolo?

Malolo has a slighter taper..... and performs well on groomers. It is a great board for a variety of terrain but obviously it is powder specific. If you can only have one powder board, consider the Malolo. Or even if you are just a freerider instead of a park monkey, consider this board as well.

The new graphics are schweeeet. Thomas Campbell is a surf legend and as you can see is a great artist.

If you are wondering about the versatility of the Malolo, check the vid of Terje and Nicolas Muller.

From the post above from airik about the malolo being super stable at high speeds...your obviously speaking from experience and I can use any insight you may have about this board... I'm totally torn this season about buying a new board. I love the trees and any fresh powder I can get a hold of, I also love bombin the mountain as fast as gravity will allow me to go.

We all know the malolo is killer for powder, no question. What I'm asking here is....How does it compare to other boards on the groomers at high speeds. If 5 riders had top of the line freeride boards and one of 'em was using the malolo, would you count them out in a race?

any insight,
Matt
