gotcha...I tried looking for the thread, but it was gone. Ok while watching the vid...when his friends dug him out did they not completely uncover his mouth while they're adjusting their gloves and shovel? It's a scary vid to watch. |

i bout he still had his mouth covered when the guy was adjusting his glove... it just sounded like it was because the mic must have been covered with snow

if you dont fast forward.. and actually listen to him breathe for 4 minutes, its one of the most intense feelings ive ever had. I was literally at my desk trippin out like.. 'where are they??dig him out!!'. Longest 4 minutes of his life, im sure.

^^ ditto! I stopped breathing for a bit. My eyes even watered a bit. Crazy intense. There's a second video that had the same effect on me today:
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=126808205918 (same video) really graphic...it's weird watching it on youtube after seeing it on facebook. it looks so much bigger. =0/ |

This was nuts! Glad the guy was found and the rescuers didn't shovel him in the face! That is some crazy sheet. Avalung definitely proven a worthy invention. Much cheaper than I thought it would be.
(I had to fast-forward a bit... too intense for my nerves). |

he didnt use the avalung in this. yes, he had one on, but he didnt get it in quick enough.
he sold the video to black diamond for an avalung ad and it implies that he did use the avalung, but without straight up saying it. |

that video made me cry.. it evoked the emotion so well. one of my best friends was in a car accident this summer (i made a thread about it back then) and her best friend died. she said she was screaming too right after it happened, and also when they found the friend that died. so basically, this video is the same kind of emotion that she was going through. but it was real. too intense. i cant even think about it anymore. every time i do, i start to cry again. i cant imagine how it felt to actually be in that position, if just watching a video is already this emotional. |

Wow! That guy was soooooo lucky!
I wonder how far down he was buried tho in light of the fact that you could see light through the snow. Also, I wonder...how hard is it to move your hands in an effort to dig? Obviously it gets exponentially harder the deeper you are, but without having experienced this type of event personally, I can hardly imagine.... |

that video is actaully blocked specifically here at work from youtube... weird.
(I watched it through another link) You know its not just texting though, driving can be dangerous for a number of reasons and any other driver on the road is a potential hazard. another sobering thread. Sorry again Spenser, thats never going to leave you... <3 |

That dude in the avy video was seriously lucky. He was dug out quickly and didn't suffer life threatening injuries in the burial process. We had a guy last season who got buried and was dug out in less time than that, only to expire a week later due to the injuries he suffered getting buried.
Check out A Dozen More Turns, if you really want a wake up call. Anyone who rides backcountry without gear, and any sort of training is a damn fool. These guys knew what they were doing and still got caught in a shit storm. BC riding is a blast, but things can go from fun to deadly in seconds.

That video needs to be posted on every snowboard, ski and sled forum out there. That is a powerful example of the dangers faced anytime you go off the reservation.Â
I don't know if any of you have ever been buried before but it is one of the most terrifying experiences you can be faced with. I got buried head first about 10 years ago. My brother and I were riding side by side and he went down and I tried to make a toe turn up around a big tree to hit a natural berm and come down. I dug a little and was forced to either smack the tree at full speed or take a dive. I took a dive and ended up face first buried with my hands over my head. My feet were sticking out but I was out of site and could not get myself out. I because of the location of my hands was able to make some space for my face and fortunately my brother had stopped to watch the turn and came to check on my when I didn't pop out the other side. I was buried for no more than 3 minutes. I tried screaming, wiggling my feet... everything I could do. The snow was so deep that if it hadn't been for my snowboard I would have went totally under. The best feeling I can ever express was the feeling of my brother grabbing my hood. I can not... CAN NOT even after that... imagine what it would feel like to go through what that dude just went through. That's an amazing video. I've got 16 years on a snowboard and some snow knowledge and avi knowledge but I would NEVER go into a situation like that without the right gear and some more training. I'd really like to get avi certified and take some snow condition classes and buy all my own gear. I ride off the reservation probably 35% of the season on a mountain I know like the back of my hand. I ALWAYS ride with my brother. We've been riding together for 15 years and can literally feel each other. I can't tell you how many times we've got separate ways and almost smashed in to each other in the middle of tree run. And even with that I find it irrisponsible for us to be riding without some gear... and it ain't utah or ak. Amazing video.Â
