    Posted: Jan/05/2010 at 6:11am
I am planning to go to Vegas the first full week in April, 3rd-13th.  I am wondering when the season end in Lake Tahoe, ours ends in March, but I was thinking out there it might last a little longer.  Also, if anyone has any suggestions for some specific resorts in the area that would be great.

I've gotten some amazing pow days in April... but usually the season winds down for most resorts April 20thish.... I have also ridden at Squaw on May 31st.. but that's full blown sunny park conditions..

I've had some of the most amazing pow days of my life in Salt Lake the first week of April too.. so don't sleep on SLC.

I know last season Boreal closed Apr.12, squaw and a few others closed around apr.19. Usually by Apr 19, most resorts are closing up.
As far as specific resorts, I was at squaw on closing day and it was still pretty epic

If you thought you were at Squaw's closing day on April 19 last year you missed a few good weeks. I rode there the second weekend in May last year and had a blast.

It's looking like most Tahoe area resorts are going to stay open through most of April, possibly even into May, so you should be good. There's even a chance of a little fresh pow that week

As much snow as Squaw and the rest of Tahoe got, chances are they stay open well through April, but thats a completely UNeducated guess...

you should be good on those dates. a storms coming next week and there should be plenty of snow left for the resorts to stay open. i believe most resorts are planning for end of april or even may closures.

Yea tahoe stays open until late april. I've ridden well into april before, some years better then others though. Really depends on the weather and how hot it gets.

the other thing to remember is that once 120 opens, Mammoth's a lot closer for the Bay Area folks.

Also, if you're in Vegas, why not head up 395 to Mammoth?  they are usually open into June or July.

You forgot (maybe on purpose?) Heavenly, closing Apr 25. Also, Boreal is supposed to reopen for the weekend of Apr 17-18. I've got the details here, and on the calendar.

Unfortunately a lot of the resorts are stuck with scheduled dates due to contractual agreements with the Forest Service. Also, there's the issue of seasonal labor. All those cute girls and gals from South America/New Zealand/Australia working lifts, the cafeteria, etc? They're all headed home.

So I didnt end up taking my board last year when I went because it is so dang expensive for an oversize bag!  Anyone know of an airline that doesnt charge $100 for  an oversize bag?  Would like to bring it this year...

I flew Southwest with my snowboard last year and there was no extra charge.  That may have changed, but I'm pretty sure I checked several other airlines and only SW didn't add a fee.  Of course SW has other drawbacks, like their cabin roofs peeling off, but worth the risk.

Oh, also I took Amtrak from Seattle to Vancouver and they didn't charge extra for a large board bag either.  Don't think there's a good way to take the train from Vegas to Tahoe tho.

Definately look into SW for my travel this year then, assuming the ticket isnt too much more it would be worth it!
