Nice to see this thread get bumped!
Ive been playing a bit more on Pokerstars lately just because i havent been able to make it Atlantic City in a while. Nothing too big just 1/2 NL games. Been running pretty good as of late. Ive also been trying to work on my PLO game just to switch it up a bit. I like it because its more of a drawing game and there are a lot of crappy players who think that their top pair is good. |

I see people around me get upset and angry, from home games to casinos. It does bring out emotion in people. So i can definitely see that view point. Me personally, i am pretty calm and bad beats don't get me going. I don't know if it's just the many bad beats i've seen on tv or just my perspective and the WAY i think about bad beats. It's just part of the game and i expect bad beats to happen. It's why you see the percentage not always 100% in favor of most hands. Won about 85 bucks at the boat yesterday.
Also Headup poker on nbc. |

I have been interested in getting into online poker lately. As a hobby of course. It has been running through my head as a nice way to pick up come extra cash for anything and what not... But in order to pick up some extra cash, I need some extra cash first, and I dont

There are so many good players online these days, makes it a lot harder to make money than it used to be. However, i do like the fact that i have endless multi table tournaments just a few clicks away with giant prize pools. |

IMO, poker is most fun just played amongst friends. There's the social aspect you get from it that doesn't exist when playing for money online. I used to play with my friends weekly and even though I wasn't a pro at it, it was still fun.
But of course, if you're absolutely pro at it, go ahead and make money online :)

Anyone here play Razz? To simply sum it up, worst 5 card hand wins. Ive been playing a little bit online and my brain is going to explode! Its so hard to condition yourself to draw to the worst hand once you've been playing traditional poker games for a long time.

Been getting a decent amount of hours in at the limit and no limit hold em tables the last few days. Spent about 6 hours playing today while nursing a wicked hangover and ended the day up ~$400.

Well boys and girls i'm gonna be going to the casinos alot more now.
I stopped awhile back because even though the poker rooms were non smoking i still could smell the cancer causing cigs in the air. I read an article about second hand smoke being worse as smoking or even worse if i remeber correctly. The new layout of my casino is now pretty much smoke free(well the poker at least). ![]() |

It's an awesome game. You get to know people's personalities pretty quickly so good when travelling!
My top tip is to watch people covering their mouths, which means they have a good hand. And if they have a crap hand they usually slam their chips down as they dont want to bet.

hot damn, poker is where the money is at, when going to the casino. I play occasionally now and once in a blue moon me and a few buddies would hit up the casino.
Gave up on internet poker a bit ago, as i just couldn't believe the BS that happened online. Just seemed unreal. For tells and strategy, i liked Phil Gordon's Green book and Mike Carol's book of tells. |

I love to play. I think two of the best tells are when someone looks at your chips and then bets...most of the time they want you to call.
Another is when a normally quiet guy starts getting talkative, he might be trying to disguise the strength of his hand.
Also, when they bet with bigger chips than they need to, or vise versa. If a guy has a huge stack of 25 chips and bets 200, with 2 x 100 chips. He is expecting to get those nice black 100 chips back, whereas if he bets with a bunch of smaller chips he could be thinking that they are gone.
Just a few things i've noticed that help me in live games. I've played online for a few months or so and was a consistent winner but i found it to be no fun. I've also played in casinos, just on 1/2, but mostly I enjoy playing with friends for 5 or 10 buy in.

Those are some good tells listed above. Another big one is when people stare you down after putting in a really big bet, usually an all in. Often means that they dont have a good hand and are trying to get you to fold by intimidating you.
It gets tricky when you play with experienced players though because of reverse tells. Basically fake tells to mess up your read on the player. Some people are REALLY good at it. I logged some more hours on Pokerstars last night and it went really well. Played a $36, 180 man turbo NL tourny and placed 7th for $208. And a $50+5, 90 man tourney where i placed 5th for $315. Ive been running pretty good lately. |

Had a tough time at the tables last night. Played 3 sit n gos, $50+5, and didnt cash in any of them. 2 losses were my fault, i overplayed jacks against a tight player. The 3rd tourney i took a bad beat, flopped second nuts and he flopped the nuts. Ah well.

I find whenever I played online I had to be really tight all the time due to the crazies online. I always found there were way too many loose players that you had to watch out for, way overplaying hands. It sucks to wait for good cards but you can really make them pay online when you do.

Yea i was willing to get all my money in on the flop, nothing i could do there. It happens. There are a lot of loose players online, but live poker is that way too these days. The game has changed quite a bit over the last 10 years. |

I trust the major sites such as Pokerstars and Full Tilt, but i wouldnt deposit at any of the smaller sites. Your money is safe with the big guys though. Sure they are all off shore and unregulated by the US government, but gambling is fun! People tend to think thats its somehow rigged but thats purely a result of seeing soooo many hands compared to live poker. Its going to seem like there are more bad beats because you are seeing 10x as many hands. Bad, lemme rephrase that, terrible beats happen in live games too! Im weary of the cash games though, its very easy for collusion to occur between other players. If i sense that anything fishy is going on ill leave the table immediately. Thats why i prefer the multi table tournaments since people dont have a choice of which table they sit at. |

Well this last weekend I played in a Full Tilt OSP Mini (Online Series of Poker Mini) tournament. There was over 15,000 players and I believe a guaranteed prize pool of $350K. Super Stack (5000 starting chips) for $24+2.
I placed 186th I believe earning $208 dollars which was very anticlimactic considering i had a high of 480,000 chips when I went out and was set to make it to top 20 which minimum prize at that point was $1900. 1st place would of netted me $45,000 and I had the chips to do it but, an unfortunate hand against an opponent with 1.8 million chips took me out. Aces and dueces on the flop doesn't beat aces and 9's on the flop, 2 pair over 2 pair and I was done. |

Bummer dude. Probably took a long time to get that far too since it was a deep stacks tourney. 2 pair is tough to get away from that late in a tourney because its either gain a bunch of chips or go home. No time to sit around and wait for monster hands. I like the bigger tournaments, you feel a great sense of accomplishment when you make it really far. And nothing beats making a final table. Pretty tough to do with 15,000 entrants! |

I started at home games and moved up to smaller casinos around my way. I am strictly a tourney player or SNG, never liked cash much. I now play online, mainly $12 6-handed SNG's and I am up about $2000 over the course of a year. I hope to eventually play in an WSOP event soon! Has anyone entered, and been successful?

my brother has qualified 3 times only cashed on his first attempt. its a real endurance event don't think I could do that many days in a row of playing poker for 18 hours. I'm a SNG/ tourney player too I do 18plyr $27/$38 used to play $55 45 player turbos but those became unprofitable at some point |

Just so everyone knows...
I just joined Carbon Poker last week. They have $200 freerolls throughout the day. 12:15 - PLO 1:15 - Horse 5:15 - Badugi 8:15 - PLO 9:15 - NLHE 10:15 - PLO 1:15(am) - NLHE Each freeroll has a prize pool of $200. 1st pays out $50 and goes down to 20th place which pays out $3. These tournys are fun because they only last a few hours, and the competition is extreamly easy. I cash out 3rd place for $20 a few days in Badugi (which is my worst game). But seriously, if you guys are looking for a fun way to potentially make some free money you should download Carbon Poker. And no i don't work for Carbon, just figure most people who don't feel comfortable depositing should play these freerolls. |
