you bet on trips...
you check a set...

i occasionally play live games at a couple casinos in my hometown... usually no-limit holdem, or DC...
online i used to play on a lot of different sites.. now i mostly play on pokerstars

I know a guy that plays online poker as his only source of income... he quit his job as an engineer to go full-time... he makes pretty good coin doing it... and he's won entries into some pretty sweet tourneys... he's gone to the carribean and austrailia and has won seats to the WSOP, but has never gone- instead just taking the money

My college friend Josh Tekesky dropped outta Kent State University to play online poker. No joke. He dropped out and began studying poker full time. He moved out to LA and was being trained by a professional poker play. In the last 7 months he has made over 550k. He placed 2nd in a big tourny on pokerstars and got paid $284,000. He won an entry into the wsop but got knocked out 3rd day. I would say he's doing pretty dam well. Right now he's living in vegas and hitting up the casinos and drinking excessively. This all has happened within the last year. His goal is to make 7 figures by new years, hes deff on the right track. His username on Pokerstars is Jotagran49, if you ever see him on, leave the table. He's ranked 13 out of 1,003,686 players on pokerstars.

Jordanwells the dropping out of college seems like it's normal. I heard plenty of stories like that. Your friend didn't try to convince you to do the same thing he does?

Being a poker player was the other "job" i wanted to pursue that i thought about.

Anyone see the two brothers playing against each other last night at the final table. I'm not going to lie if I had the chance to take my brother out at the final table I would do it in a heart beat, just so I could talk crap every time we played.

HAVEN2135 ye!! that's what i'm talking about there are no friends or family in poker.

If i'm playing with either when the cards are dealt i'm all about taking you chips any way i can. Nothing personal it's POKER!

Those were the mizrachi brothers. They actually played each other instead of just checking down their cards.

Determined, no he never tried to convince me to do what he does. He took it to a whole new level. All he does is study poker. I'm sure it will catch up to him eventually.

I stick to the no limit tournaments in Vegas. You can play for hours and it'll only cost you $60-100. You might even end up in the money. Either way, it's probably the best value for time/entertainment in vegas!

Ill be checking back for your trip report, good luck.

I know most people prefer live to online because they feel they are getting cheated, but i look at it as the number of hands ill be able to see per hour.  Online kills live play in that respect.  I still prefer live though, being able to look for tells, play with my chips, and socialize with new players is just way more fun to me.

Side note:  Came home drunk the other night and donked off a few hundred because i was so hammered.  Didnt even remember until i checked my balance the next morning.  Sigh.

Nothing to be scared of man, its still poker.  Table etiquette is different, and the casinos rules will be enforced.  But other than that its the same game you've been playing.

texas holdem all the way.  or black jack.  but my friends get mad at me sometimes, cause we don't bet real money when we play with chips so i sometimes bet crazy and annoy them. haha.  o well, i think if i ever went to gambling hall, i'd blow too much money.

multi-table online poker is the only way to go... if i was stuck on 1 table online i'd probably shoot myself...
usually play 6-8 tables at a time... my buddy plays atleast 8 tables at a time... 8 is my absolute limit... after that i can't track whats going on...

while playing a live game at a casino once... one of the guys said he tried playing 16 tables at once... at the point it was just strictly math... i believe he said he was up a couple hundred after a two hour session... but it definately was not worth it

Not all that different. Alot more people in the pots cause they are there to have fun and just like to gamble at times. It kinda depends on the games you play also limit, no limit, or tournaments. You can get free drinks, free food, and enjoy the eye candy.

Where are you planning to play? I know of only two places that allow 18 year olds to play canada and FL on a ship somewhere.

I try to keep my multitabling around 2-3 tables.  And i only try to sit at tables that are designated as "fast" tables.  Call me dumb but i cant keep up with players betting patterns and what not when im playing 8 tables.  I just like the action!  I like to confuse myself by playing in a NLHE sit n go, PLO cash game, NLHE cash game, and a stud cash game as well.  The object of the game is to not lose my momey because i thought i was playing a different game : }.

I find that players online are way better to the ones who play live. I stick to live even though the rake is a lot higher.

Doesnt offer what?  I dont play freerolls but im pretty sure they still have them.  And as for US players not being allowed to play, its still illegal for us to do so, but there are ways around it.  I use E-checks to deposit on Pokerstars and have never had an issue depositing or cashing out.  You have to give a bunch of personal information though, just a heads up.  If you dont want to go that route ive heard that SOME of those prepaid Visa cards work as well.  If all else fails you can just have a friend transfer money to your account, no issue there at all.

Not rigged.

There is a reason that the same people who are successful poker players in real life are successful online as well.  There is just much more variance since you are seeing so many more hands per session.  At a casino the standard is about 20-30 hands per hour, online you can see 100.  And if you are multi tabling you might see 500.

thats so true... a lot of people forget that you'll see 5x-10x more hands than you would at a casino... so the odds of bad beats are so much higher.. you also have to take into account the style of some internet players which is so much looser than "regular" players...
so yea... big hands are gonna get run over more
but royal flushes and straight flushes are still pretty rare i find

Had a good session in Charles Town yesterday.  Played 2/5 NL for about 6 hours and wound up +600.  The play was very fishy as usual.  Loose calls all over the place and often 4-5 players seeing a flop with a 4xBB raise.
