I am trying to go for a quick trip to Snowbird right before president's week. The lodging at the mountain is a bit on the expensive side and I could use some advice whether it's worth it.
I've been to the Bird before but had been staying at Park City and driven to the base of the valley to take the bus up to the mountain so I could stay in downtown SLC and take the bus from there. What is important in this decision for me is, whether the access road to the mountain could be shut if there is a good snowstorm? I'm only going for 4 days so I don't want to be stuck in a hotel room watching the flakes I could be riding. So, does it happen often that the buses can't make it up? If the buses can't get up are the trails even open, or are they on delay in that situation anyway? thanks for the help

If there is a good snowstorm they will close the road for avalanche control. Dont know if I've ever seen it close for a full day, but I guess it's a possiblity. I would still recommend staying in SLC because you'll save a ton of money between lodging and food and still be 20 minutes from the slopes. Worst case scenario they close the canyon down you could still hit park city or go further North to Snow Basin. Only downside is if you have already purchased your lift tickets, and don't have the other slopes as options.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and booked a room at the Marriot in SLC because I got a very good deal and will take my chances with the buses. So far the big snowstorm I was hoping for does not look likely. I got the Utah super pass so I guess that means I'm limited to the cotton wood canyon mountains. So what is there to do in SLC at night?
