I am thinking about coming up to Stowe. I have never been there before.
I hear alot of negitaves about Vermont in general (ex too icy. lift lines are too long too crowded, and way over priced.) How true is this? and when do you recomend visiting.. Thanks in advance |

All these "negatives" are relative, I supposed. VT is icy in the way that the whole east coast is icy, as compared to, say, Tahoe or Colorado. But with a decent snowfall and/or snowmaking, you can get some decent groomed runs without worrying about the ice (a lot depends on when in the season you go, also). Lots of resorts are somewhat crowded, but invariably you can find some lifts on the bigger mtns that are tucked away and not seeing the same traffic. Weekends or school vacation weeks are worse for obvious reasons than a weekday. (weekdays I've had no real issues at VT mtns) As for cost... well Stowe is one of the pricier ones on the east coast, but not as pricey as out west. So it's all what it's worth for you. Since you say "going up" to Stowe, I assume you're on the east coast somewhere?

I went to Stowe last February. Had a good time. Haven't been out to the west, so I can't compare. If you go before March, the powder should be good, not icy.
Most of the hotels and inns offer a discounted tickets if you book with them. try Vermontskitrips.com to see if they have a cheaper package. there's another website that offers cheap tickets...i'll have to get back to you, but last i saw they were selling for $63. liftopia.com is an awesome website and i remember last year, they had some good deals mid-week. less crowded. Don't go on a holiday weekend, the lines are long...even tho the lifts move fast, it can be a drag.

try liftopia.com for some good mid-week deals. last minute tickets can be pretty cheap. Last year it was $55 vs. $89 regular day.

Stowe is great. had season passes all four years when I went to UVM. Definitely my favorite mountain in the east but crazy expensive. Look for a friend that works at burton for comp tickets. The town is pretty cool too. A bunch of fun things to do at night with the matterhorn or the shed for after mountain drinks. Also, if you're a cougar hunter, the new resort on the spruce side is loaded with them.

If anybody is looking for a good place to stay at Stowe this year. I highly recommend the Green Mountain Inn. Its a very nice hotel right at the bottom of the access road in town.

I'd be looking for discount tickets to anywhere on the east coast, not just vermont. So even if you find deals for discounted tickets in the Poconos, please let me know.

Heres a discount for you. I was at Camelback. My friends and I got a Friday Night pass for $35, no discount there. I cut my off cuz I didnt think to much about it. But they rode the lifts for the rest of the weekend using the same lift ticket passes. Three days 35, not thats discount!

I saw 49.99 tickets to Windham at Costco. But the few times I went there I wasn't impressed.

I have never been to stowe but i have heard of it before. I have been to Mt. Snow, Killington, Stratton and Bromley.
Does anyone have a good comparison compared to those because I am planning a trip to VT and this is a possible destination but need to know some more about it before i decide. |
