Yes, conditions can be very good in late March for spring riding. But last year, I was riding in t-shirt because it was so warm in March...not sure if that's your thing. You just have to kind of watch the weather forecast. But with a 9'+ base, you won't have to worry about no snow.

We usually stay at the Horizons 4 cabins...reasonably priced and still close to Eagle and Canyon lodges.

motel 6 and holiday inn is cheap. if you are staying only one night, bishop might be good choice.

some costcos has mammoth lift ticket deals.

http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1224603

you can also get them cheaper if you order online 7 days before you arrive at mammoth's site

I always book my Mammoth Lodging through expedia.com and just select whatever's cheapest since all you really need a room for is to crash in and shower.

Bishop is usually cheaper than Mammoth Lakes but then you gotta get-up earlier to drive that last 40 or however many miles in the morning before riding.

To me, it's always well worth the extra $20-$25 to just stay in Mammoth Lakes and get to sleep almost another hour before riding...

The only time I stay in Bishop is when there are absolutely NO rooms available in Mammoth Lakes and it's either Bishop or nothing--this frequently occurs after a big dump.

I never drive the 5+ hours to Mammoth unless I'm riding at least 2 days which requires staying the night prior to each of those riding days.

My brother and I will usually drive out as early as we can on a Friday, crash out in a room, ride Saturday, stay the night Saturday in that same room, pack-up our vehicle and check-out Sunday morning before riding all day and then driving home.

Once I let my crazy friend talk me into driving out from LA/OC at around midnight, not sleeping at all, getting some breakfast in Mammoth Lakes, riding Mammoth all day with a brief break for lunch, and then driving back home and I felt like a zombie all damn day--I will NEVER do that again.

Yeah, I was at the Costco in Cypress on Super Bowl Sunday and they had 3 out of 4 day Mammoth tickets/passes for like $175 I think.

We did that for opening day in October...left the OC at midnight and got back 22 hours later. Ditto on never doing that again. LOL

I drove to Mammoth and rode for 4 days in January; slept in my car the first 2 nights and crashed at my buddy's condo the third night. Sleeping in one's car is not recommended unless you are equipped for 10 degree weather and peeing outdoors in the extreme cold!
It was FREE and after living out of my car for 2 days, I felt a lil more rugged knowing I was able to handle such inhumane conditions.
And yes, I used the Costco 3 out of 4 day Mammoth passes and bought a $65 half day pass on the last day...

Bboy Tommy, I gots a few sources for Mammoth tickets, I'll look into them and get back to ya...

John McD,

You're a better man than me my friend, call me a tenderfoot if you want but I ain't about roughin' it IF AT ALL POSSIBLE at this stage in my life...

Props to ya for voluntarily enduring that car camping in the cold--that's not exactly something that's high on my want-to-do list...

it's been warm already.  nothing you can do about it.  it'll be snowing this week.  but it should be back to normal soon.  just enjoy the springtime slush!

was at Mammoth just this past weekend during the Roxy Chicken Jam. Snow is still good, mostly powder with patchy ice. weather is warm except at the top of the sierra where it was 15 degrees at midday. If your military then its 25% off the ticket, 50% off during the weekday. And yeah, I left a can of arizona green tea in the ride overnight and that froze also.
