I know for me, the first time I logged into chat and asked a question about my name not showing up on the side, and a few others had asked the same thing, the response that was given was to shut the *uck up about the user names. Thats not something that would make me feel welcome, but I'm sticking around ;)

my kids are now all getting into snowboarding/skiing and I'm going to be buying their equipment, for the next 15 yrs lol I was given the name of this site by one of the board instructors at the local ski area.

I say good luck to all and thanks to SS for giving away such great things, my sons hoping to win!

i dont think clee is saying hes more deserving. Hes saying that its really annoying dealing with the site coming down because 4000 people just flooded it :) He also put up a pre requisite number that deliberately discluded himself precisely so that he wouldnt get accused of trying to work the numbers in his favor. I think he just wants the site working fine is all because he likes to post here. The giveaway when its MASSIVE, is a bit of a disruption to that, is all.

Clee I'm not trying to start an argument or attack you, but you did say "they should do this for people with 2000+ posts". Last time I checked how can you snowboard and post in forums all day. Also have you seen the post whores, I'm not naming any names but I know you've seen some. I joined 6 months ago I already bought 2 boards from sierra but I don't post that much and I'm a newer member. Also there are loads of people that work away from a computer and can't post all day. I'm more into the good deals and staff and expert advice, not posting all the time. I'm logged in all the time now because I have a seasonal job, after St.Patricks Day I work outside every day till Halloween. I won't be near a computer to post or log onto give away for seven months in a row but that doesn't make me a bad member or un-deserving of a free board when  I come back next fall. I know alot of things get twisted when typing in forums so I'm not attacking you, I just wanted to speak my mind about the # of posts thing. Hopefully sierra keeps the give away going despite the hassle. I didn't win a reverse crew today so I bought one.Smile

Ok maybe post count wasn't the best idea
but what i was trying to get was for those who have been and is still active to the community should be awarded ( i also excluded my self on this ) and reason for this is, they are/have been spending alot time in here to help others and discuss things that are helpful to others
and i see few ppl that are giving very good info such as kimchee, spencer and few others, you have to understand as you use your time for your job
some ppl here are using their time to help others and i think its good that ppl are helping those who don't understand certain things at cost of good will.   hope you got where i was coming from.
also i said that because i noticed crazy amount of ppl just log in for greed of free vapor and the site got jammed retarded pretty hard..

no, its not.  probability has no memory...it wont take into account that you lost 100x a row and throw you a win...

...and just in case you take that logic to the casinos....roulette balls have no memory either.  10 reds in a row do not increase the odds of black hitting.  its the same odds every time.

They won't, today was the perfect example, and you even gave a reason why!

The person that wins a snowboard will be in one of 3 positions:
1)The person has already purchased something from sierra, and therefore the seemingly free snowboard cost sierra nothing to give away! Result: Gain of publicity
2)Has equipment that was bought else where. After the person won the snowboard he will in the future need more equipment, and the place he will turn to is sierra for the low prices and other benefits. Result: snowboard will pay for it self in the long run && gain of publicity!
3)Person who does not own any gear of his own and has just won a brand new board! He'll need some bindings and boots, and maybe even clothing. If used is not his style, he'll probably get it from sierra because of the low prices such as the 50% 48 hour sale. Result: snowboard pays for it self + publicity.

I fall into the 3rd category. I found out about the website on Thursday and won a snowboard the day after! Yes I got lucky, but I also made purchases after and still will which payed/will pay for the free snowboard, which means sierra isn't losing.

The end result for each case is publicity and thus the system of advertisement was successful. Today was the perfect example, not only were there almost 4,000 members logged on, but a large amount of members spread the news about the give away, and thus advertised the website! I personally told quite a few people through social networking sites and forums about this great give away and website!

I would be surprised if sierra stopped the free giveaway, because it is basically a free system of advertisement and a successful one.

It is a win win for everyone!

...and by Jared's description, the vapor went to the perfect person, who already made purchases from sierra, and after winning the snowboard, will definitely continue to make purchases here in the future... and look how much publicity the vapor has generated. It also served as a good stress test for the website and I'm sure the programmers are delighted with today's giveaway.

To everyone who's complaining,
STOP! You have a chance to win a snowboard for virtually nothing.. I know I'm new to this, but this is just common sense man.. You're just as deserving as the next guy. It doesn't matter if you're an old member or a new one (like me).

And btw, thanks SS, you guys have some fantastic deals and the daily snowboard sweepstakes are awesome, keep it up

Congrats to the guest that one the vapor and everyone else that won boards yesterday. To everyone complaining, stop being babies and be happy for the people that won. Sure I wanted to win the vapor or any of the other boards, but jealously is an ugly thing. Thanks Sierra for the great deals and allowing us the opportunity to have a chance to win a vapor, I know that's the only way I'm getting one.
Even his enemy’s list him as there emergency contact.

And this on top of all of the other great points that you have made, good sir, show that you think outside of the box.  Our programmer felt that with our new servers everything was running at an extremely stable level and made the challenge to me to "try to break it."  What better way to debug, test, and improve the site by overloading the site with people just to stoke someone out with free snowboards.  Put a smile on my face.

Bonus: Travis was able to find a huge redundancy that was slowing down the site for everyone on a daily basis.  Once he put the fix in, at least eight people who have been working on our site for years said, "I've never seen the site run this fast."  Put a bigger smile on my face.

Double Bonus: Put in a call to the gentleman who won the Vapor (usually we just send a coupon code so you can order the board for free).  He had received our email about the sale/giveaway, logged into the site, shopped around during the giveaway as you don't have to look at my ugly face on the camera in order to win, and exclaimed "I always wondered who won those things" when he found out that he won.  These are the moments that make me happy to get in front of a web cam on a daily basis and stoke people out.

Thank you Community.

Jared

Dude, if ya'll are smart, don't tell your friends to log on for the Free Giveaway.

You'd think ok, 1 board per 500, so 3 boards for 1500 right? That's good, we have three chances right? Sure but we have 3 chances at the same BAD odds!!

It's still 1 in 1500 first spin
then 1 in 1499 second spin
then 1 in 1498 third spin.

Why'd you want to make it harder for yourself to win??? Freakin, 3500 people yesterday made it 5x harder to win.

Well theres no point in complaining about the odds. If your gonna win then, you'll win - its just chance really.

There is always some sweet giveaways here =p

What is the time differences from SS time and United Kingdom's time?

Yup, sort of. Except for probability theory when combining multiple probabilities and looking for the chance that any will occur (you add the probabilities together).

And also, with 1500, there will be 4 boards in total. 1 feature board and 1 Sierra board for every 500. So while you might have 4 individual probabilities of 1/1500 = 0.00067, 1/1499 = 0.00067, etc, your chance of winning any board is 0.00067 + 0.00067 + 0.00067 + 0.00067= 0.0027, which is about a 1/373 chance of winning a board - which is better than the usual daily give away chances.
