Clee I'm not trying to start an argument or attack you, but you did say "they should do this for people with 2000+ posts". Last time I checked how can you snowboard and post in forums all day. Also have you seen the post whores, I'm not naming any names but I know you've seen some. I joined 6 months ago I already bought 2 boards from sierra but I don't post that much and I'm a newer member. Also there are loads of people that work away from a computer and can't post all day. I'm more into the good deals and staff and expert advice, not posting all the time. I'm logged in all the time now because I have a seasonal job, after St.Patricks Day I work outside every day till Halloween. I won't be near a computer to post or log onto give away for seven months in a row but that doesn't make me a bad member or un-deserving of a free board when  I come back next fall. I know alot of things get twisted when typing in forums so I'm not attacking you, I just wanted to speak my mind about the # of posts thing. Hopefully sierra keeps the give away going despite the hassle. I didn't win a reverse crew today so I bought one.

no, its not.  probability has no memory...it wont take into account that you lost 100x a row and throw you a win...

...and just in case you take that logic to the casinos....roulette balls have no memory either.  10 reds in a row do not increase the odds of black hitting.  its the same odds every time.

They won't, today was the perfect example, and you even gave a reason why!

The person that wins a snowboard will be in one of 3 positions:
1)The person has already purchased something from sierra, and therefore the seemingly free snowboard cost sierra nothing to give away! Result: Gain of publicity
2)Has equipment that was bought else where. After the person won the snowboard he will in the future need more equipment, and the place he will turn to is sierra for the low prices and other benefits. Result: snowboard will pay for it self in the long run && gain of publicity!
3)Person who does not own any gear of his own and has just won a brand new board! He'll need some bindings and boots, and maybe even clothing. If used is not his style, he'll probably get it from sierra because of the low prices such as the 50% 48 hour sale. Result: snowboard pays for it self + publicity.

I fall into the 3rd category. I found out about the website on Thursday and won a snowboard the day after! Yes I got lucky, but I also made purchases after and still will which payed/will pay for the free snowboard, which means sierra isn't losing.

The end result for each case is publicity and thus the system of advertisement was successful. Today was the perfect example, not only were there almost 4,000 members logged on, but a large amount of members spread the news about the give away, and thus advertised the website! I personally told quite a few people through social networking sites and forums about this great give away and website!

I would be surprised if sierra stopped the free giveaway, because it is basically a free system of advertisement and a successful one.

It is a win win for everyone!


...and by Jared's description, the vapor went to the perfect person, who already made purchases from sierra, and after winning the snowboard, will definitely continue to make purchases here in the future... and look how much publicity the vapor has generated. It also served as a good stress test for the website and I'm sure the programmers are delighted with today's giveaway.

Congrats to the guest that one the vapor and everyone else that won boards yesterday. To everyone complaining, stop being babies and be happy for the people that won. Sure I wanted to win the vapor or any of the other boards, but jealously is an ugly thing. Thanks Sierra for the great deals and allowing us the opportunity to have a chance to win a vapor, I know that's the only way I'm getting one.

You'd think ok, 1 board per 500, so 3 boards for 1500 right? That's good, we have three chances right? Sure but we have 3 chances at the same BAD odds!!

It's still 1 in 1500 first spin
then 1 in 1499 second spin
then 1 in 1498 third spin.

Why'd you want to make it harder for yourself to win??? Freakin, 3500 people yesterday made it 5x harder to win.
