how far into the board should we file the edges to? just enough to see the white outline, or a little deeper in?

2) Take the more coarse file (if you got 2) or whatever file you have and go around the whole board. Angle the file at a 45 Degree angle with the corner of the topsheet and file down a bit to get rid of the "edge" of the topsheet.
3) If you got the fine file, take it back around again to smooth it out. When I'm on this step, instead of doing a 45 degree angle, I rock it back in forth with the 45 degree angle as my mid point. This will "round" the topsheet down and in my opinion be even more effective than simply a 45 degree angle.

Thanks for the pics, video, and this written instruction. Excellent tip!

I was heading out to the tool shed to do this but my board was already rounded off. Though since I already had a file and the board with me I went to the shed anyway and rounded it off some more just to say I did it.

Best 15 minutes ever spent.

My board looks to good to be "trimmed" down!!

Is this still necessary if I am just using it for freeride?

I've been doing that for a while.  keeps the top layer from getting lifted in lift lines.

Do you still get possible chips after doing this?
How much would u say it helps in preventing doing this?

Well just think about it rather then having a large ( well compared to the entire edge of your board) blunt surface to get hit by angling it off what ever hits your board, be it a jib or someone elses edges, will just glance off of it rather then taking the full impact. Helps a lot my old salomon has a huge chunk of the top sheet missing from some guy wacking his board into mine.
